Pharmacy Co-op Seminar/ Introduction to Pharmacy Practice – PHMD1201 2001 - present
Introduction to Pharmacy Practice prepares pharmacy students for their first introductory practice
experience/Co-op (IPPE). Students will be introduced to the policies, procedures, and expectations of the
Cooperative Education program. Students will develop the skills needed to be successful in the preparation,
activity and reflection components of the Pharmacy Co-op program. Students will prepare their first resumes
and learn proper interviewing techniques. Students will be exposed to the various opportunities available to
them for Co-op as well as potential career paths within the pharmacy profession. Students will also be
introduced to workplace issues including diversity, sexual harassment, ethics, and confidence of information.
Students will also be introduced to technical knowledge and skills required for their first pharmacy experiences
in both community and institutional pharmacy practice.
Pharmacy Care Laboratory I & II: PHMD6366 – Fall; PHMD6376 – Spring 1993 - 2011
Pharmaceutical Care Laboratory will provide the student with functional knowledge and skills in the area of
interpretation and processing of medication orders, detection and resolution of drug-related problems, physical
assessment and patient education and counseling. The laboratory will be taught using a variety of methods
including discussions, videos, podcasts, simulations and hands-on-learning activities in the lab. Students will
apply information gained in previous and concurrent courses to clinical situations. Knowledge gained from this
course will prepare students for their Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) and a career in patient
centered pharmacy practice.
