The primary purpose of the teachers pack is tohelp both teachers and students alike to get asmuch as possible out of their participation in theInteractive performance of ROBIN AND HOOD.

The pack has been designed as a tool to helpstudents understand the play, learn the new

vocabulary and improve their listening and speakingskills. Once they have done the activities, studentswill better understand both how the story developsand the lines the actors deliver and so they will getmore enjoyment out of performance.

This CD contains some introductory material whereyoullnd the corresponding texts to the plotsynopsis, meet the characters, some dialoguesfrom the play and the original songs performedalong the play.

Besides, youllnd some suggested activities werecommend you to do before the play, Pre-play activities, and some Post-play activities wich havebeen designed to check if students understoodthe play correctly and that they have assimilatedthe vocabulary, expressions and grammaticalstructures they work on. Pre-play and post-play activities include instructions for the teacher andthe corresponding student worksheets, as long asthe activity requires them. Some of the activitieshave an extension part (Extension activity) wichmakes possible to study in depth the contents,depending on the group level.

Both the introductory material and the suggestedactivities may require the corresponding audiomaterial to make a better use of them. In that case,we provide you with the corresponding track number from the Audio CD.

The educational interests of this activity will focus on helping students start developing thefour basic skills of any foreign language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. All this with anapproach based on communication, which aims to encourage students, involving them in dialogues,conversations, songs ... and other forms of communication that are essencial to the teaching andlearning of a foreign language process.

At this stage students should develop a certain level of understanding and speaking to enablethem to deploy their rst english communicative manifestations, and to consolidate the basic grammatical categories of this language, and ensure their awareness and approach to the Anglo- Saxon cultural tradition.

The teaching materials of ROBIN AND HOOD will allow you to study in depth the followingconceptual content:

Sherwood Forest, a long, long time ago. A nice troubadour, with the help of his funny assistant, introduces us to the fabulous story of Robin Hood. Who doesnt know greatRobin Hood, the one who robbed the rich and distributed what he stole among the poor?

But Robin Hood is not the only character that we will meet in this story: Little John,Robins best friend, always takes an important part in his deeds. Although he isnt asbrave as Robin, he always helps him toght the evil Prince John and to do justice inSherwood Forest.

Sherwood Forest is not the happy and peaceful place it used to be, because the evil PrinceJohn, who wants to steal the throne to his brother Richard the Lionheart, has spread war and poverty all over the place.

Robin Hood is in love with the beautiful Lady Marian, and he dreams of marrying her oneday, but he is too shy to tell her!

In this adventure, Robin tricks again Prince John: disguised as a gypsy woman, he stealsall his rings and he tells the Prince that he is not the true King of England. As revenge,Prince John kidnaps Lady Marian and locks her up in the tower of his castle.

Determined to catch Robin Hood once and forever, Prince John organizes an archery tournament in which the winner will have the honour of setting Lady Marian free. The evilPrince John is certain that Robin Hood will take this chance to rescue Lady Marian andthen, he will be able to put him behind the bars

But Robin Hood proves to be more intelligent than Prince John. Disguised as a poor country man, he manages both to win the tournament and to rescue Lady Marian. Whenthey are about to celebrate their victory, excellent news arrives Richard the Lionheart,their beloved and true King of England, is back!

TROUBADOUR: In Sherwood Forest, near the city of Nottingham, lives the hero of our story, Robin of Loxley, better known as Robin Hood. He is a skilled archer who protectspoor and oppressed people andghts against Prince John. Prince John is also knownas John Lackland, and he has stolen the throne to his brother Richard the Lionheart.Meanwhile, Richard the Lionheart is away, in the Third Crusade, to set Jerusalem freefrom the Muslim sultan Saladin. Robin Hood is a good man who robs from the rich andgives it to the poor, and he is in love with the beautiful Lady Marian. But the evil PrinceJohn is always chasing Robin Hood and has put a price on his head. And thats whereour story begins. Sherwood Forest is in the North of the city, and next to it we can nd the stables. The carpenters workshop is opposite the stables, in North Street. The aim of this activity is to give students the chance to practise af rmative and negative sentences. Most of the sentences are in the 3rd person singular, so students will have plenty of practice with the s.

Explain to students that all the students are false and that they can be corrected simply by changing the verb from negative to af rmative, or vice versa.

Draw students attention to the rst sentence which has been done as an example and ask them to say what has changed (there is an auxiliary verb to make the negative and the main verb has no s). Remind students that no auxiliary verb is used with the verbs to be or can. If necessary the second sentence could be done by the wholclass, since it is the exact reverse process from the rst sentence. Then students should be ready to complete the activity.

We invite you to test your knowledge aboutRobin and Hood playingThe Game of The Archer . It is a singular version of the traditional Game of the Goose, inwhich only your command of the vocabulary relatedto the play will lead you to thenal objective: to setLady Marianfree.

Therst thing you have to do is to assemble thegame board, which is divided in four parts. Once thegame board is ready, you have to get into groups of 2 to 4 players and to appoint a spokesperson for each group. The teacher will explain to the studentsthe instructions corresponding to each space, and,when needed, choose and ask the questions to thestudents.

RULES OF THE GAME.

Throw with one die The objective of the game is to move spaces forwardaccording to the throw of one die and to follow theinstructions given for each space. The winning groupwill have to go throughSherwood Forest and land onthe tower wherePrince Johnhas lockedLady Marian up.

The game board pattern is a spiral of 40elds,numbered from 1 to 40. 24elds have specialhazards or bene ts for players who land on them:

* From arrow to arrow: (there are 8 elds with anarrow) Whenever you land on one of thiseldsyou are in the good direction, move to the nextarrow and roll again.

* Robins target: Fields 6 and 23. Good shot!! Youcan move toeld 23 (and vice versa) and rollagain.

* The well: Field 15. If you land on thiseld, youlose one turn.

* Sherwoods heart (dibujo de un bosque). Field18... You are lost in the middle of the forest.You CANTT play again until another player goes past that space.

* The dungeon: Field 27. Bad luck. Whenever youland on thiseld you lose two turns.

* Prince John: Field 33. He is the villain in our story.Bumping into him is the worst thing that couldhave happened to you. You go back toeld 1.

* Go into Lady Marians Tower: You are Sherwoodshero. You are about to rescue Lady Marianbut you need to arrive by an exact count of the die. If you overthrow the required number,you must move backwards the surplus number of points.

* Question Fields: There are 14 Question Fields.Whenever you land on one of them, you will haveto answer correctly to a question that your teacher will ask you about the vocabulary in theplay. If you answer correctly, you can roll again,but if you dont, you wont move and you willhave to pass the turn to the next team.

NOTE: There is an 80 words glossary for the teacher.All the words are in English with its correspondingtranslation to Spanish. Its up to the teacher to decide which words to choose as there aredifferent levels of dif culty and to ask for their translation either into English or into Spanish.
