Robot Rhythm Races Set up: Print all team cards and game cards on card stock, laminate and
cut out on lines.
Class set up: Set up four team robot pages on one side of the room (or you
could attach to cones borrowed from the PE teacher), On the other side of
the room is a pile of robot rhythms (all matching robots are in a group on
the floor etc.).
How to play: Game is played as a relay race. Divide class into four equal
teams. Each time lines up behind their team’s picture or you could borrow
cones from your PE teacher.
Each team is assigned a robot to collect. Teacher will chant or play rhythm
on an instrument. One member from each team runs down to their
assigned pile to locate the robot with that rhythm and bring it back to their
team’s cone/ robot... The first team to retrieve the correct rhythm earns a
point for their team. (Or the first team back with the correct rhythm gets
two points, other teams with correct rhythm get one point). The team with
the most robots wins. I usually find festive pencils in the dollar bins at Target
to give away to the winning team, but there doesn’t have to be a “prize”.

Alternate Activity Set up: Students are seated in a circle. Place several of the turkey rhythms in the center of
the circle.
Game directions: Ask students to choose one rhythm that they are going to read out
loud. Have them practice it in their heads once as you count. Did we all finish on four?
Now we are going to say our rhythms at the same time out loud and it might sound a
little messy because we probably aren’t all going to choose the same rhythm., so just
focus on your rhythm and don’t let anyone else throw you off. Check that they all end on
beat four together. This time everyone will get a turn to solo and tell me the turkey that
they picked out. Teacher goes around circle (I usually use a hand drum as I go to keep
the beat). Students read the rhythm they selected.
