Administrative Team’s Message Welcome back Rocanville students and staff.

We would like to extend a special welcome to our K class and our new students. We are excited to have several

new families joining us this year. Welcome to Rocanville School! A special welcome is also extended to our new

staff: Miss Mepham, Mrs. Smigelski and Miss Henderson.

Fall time is always busy as students, staff, and parents all transition back to school schedules, work schedules,

and activities that our children are involved in both inside and outside of the school. This is a great opportunity

for everyone as we come back refreshed, eager to work, and learn together. In order to keep this momentum

throughout the year, we must all keep the 3 R’s of Rocanville School at the forefront of our interactions. These

are: Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. Ready – be ready to learn, be ready to be a contributing member to

our school environment. Respectful – Be respectful of yourself, respectful to others, respectful of the learning

environment, respectful of the school environment. Responsible – be responsible for your own actions, be

responsible for your learning. The 3 R’s guide our students and the decisions they make each day, but our staff and parents must also support the 3 R’s to demonstrate their importance to our students.

Rocanville School welcomes parents and community members to become involved in supporting our students in

various ways, such as community coaching, driving students to activities, participating in school events, staying

connected to the school with open communication, and supporting learning at home. Your support contributes

to student engagement, student success, and is highly valued by our school community as you are part of this

community. If you ever have questions or concerns, please contact the school. If you want to become involved in other ways, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher or our SCC Chair Megan Shipp for possible

opportunities. Stay tuned for our SCC AGM and parent presentation on mental health later in the fall.

A special thank you goes out to our SCC, Blueberry Kitchen, Borderland Coop, the SRC and our parent volunteers

for sponsoring and running our back to school BBQ and open house. It was a delicious meal and great opportunity for the community to come together at our school. Best wishes as we begin another school year! Nathan Bromm Mike Gowan Principal Vice-Principal

September Library News School is off to a great start and the Library is buzzing with activity. Many students have already been in to sign out books for buddy reading and for their own enjoyment. It is very important that you encourage your child – no matter their age - to read each day. The stronger the reader, the easier they will find school work. Reading is a necessary skill and you only improve by doing it. Library books are signed out on a 14 day cycle (a few of the younger classes return theirs each library class as per the teacher’s request). If a book has not come back to school after 14 days the teachers will receive a reminder notice that the student still has a book signed out. If that book has not been returned after a month the child will receive a letter to take home stating that the book is overdue and they have to pay the cost of it. If it is an ongoing problem with a student their library privileges will be suspended until all fines are paid. It is very expensive to have to replace lost or damaged books so please take good care of them. The photographers from Lifetouch Canada will be here Monday, September 10th to take our school pictures. These pictures enable our yearbook staff to put together a wonderful book of memories for our school. I expect proof packages to be back in 2 – 3 weeks giving you the opportunity to order pictures in plenty of time before Christmas. Thank you to everyone who orders pictures as our library makes a small commission off of each package purchased. Happy Reading Cheryl Schiller Library Tech

Snack Shack Our Snack Shack is open every day from 12:05 to 12:25 and is run by student volunteers in grades 6-12. The money raised in this school based business is used to help support student programs. Please encourage your child to sign up. Without the volunteer workers we will be unable to keep the Snack Shack open. We are excited to announce that sandwiches, salads, veggie trays, and occasional hot meals will be prepared on site in our school kitchen. Healthy food prepared by our very own students! Rocanville School would like to remind parents and students that the school is

Peanut/Nut Safe

Your co-operation is requested to maintain the Peanut/Nut Safe

policy within our facility. We do have several students with

severe life threatening peanut/nut allergies so it is very important

that you monitor your student’s lunches and snacks so that they

are peanut/nut safe. Our snack shack does not sell any items that

contain peanuts or nuts.

Aerosol Free

Please make sure that your child(ren) does not bring any

aerosol products to school.

Thank you
