Did You Know?

which you’d like to help and let them know when you’re available OR be ready to say “YES!!!” when they request your help! The contact information for each superinten-dent can be found at the beginning of the department in the Fair Premium Book.

Let’s ALL work together to make this year’s fair judging experience a positive one for our youth!

Questions about the Fair Book or Fair Entry? If you have questions pertaining to the Fair Book or fair entry, who should you call? Mary Check at the Fair Secretary’s Office, 755-1470, that’s who!

Rock County 4-H Calendar Don’t forget to check the most up-to-date deadlines and activities on the Rock County 4-H calendar. It is available at http://fyi.uwex.edu/4hrock/ under the 4-H Calendar tab.

Living Healthy Corner Did you know in 2005, youth spent an average of 6 hours and 30 minutes per day with screen time and in 2015 that number increased to 10 hours and 45 minutes a day? This means you spend more time on social media and watching TV than you do sleeping! Try to challenge yourself to limit the use of screen time to two hours or less a day and see how your communication skills and sleep improve.

River Valley 4-H News In our April River Valley 4-H meeting we had a movie activity. The family that hosted the activity brought Pixar shorts and movie snacks like popcorn and cookies. The whole club enjoyed watching the Pixar shorts and eating food as well.

During our meeting, we also announced our 2017 River Valley 4H Royalty Team members and they are: King Jack Elliott Prince Aiden Brink Princess Grace Fritsche Lord Liam MacPherson Lady Ava Ballou Cloverbud Court Members: Charlize Allen, Florence Becker, Brooklyn Boehlke, Emmalin Brink, Rowan MacPherson, Aiden Melton, Estela Villarello, Allison Robinson, McKenzie Rynes, and Hannah Speigelhoff.

Congratulations!! Aiden Brink, River Valley 4-H Reporter

Plan to Help at This Year’s Fair! There are a lot of changes to the judging schedule of the non-animal departments for this year’s Rock County 4-H Fair. BE SURE to check your Fair Premium Book for the entry and judging times for those departments because they may be different than in previous years!

In addition, the fair volunteers are going to need a LOT of help to make everything run smoothly. PLEASE consider helping out in ANY non-animal department this year! You can help with judging, assist in arranging exhibits, help with paperwork, move tables and chairs, and so on. Even a couple of hours would be greatly appreciated!

Please contact the superintendent of the department(s) in

State 4-H Youth Photo Exhibit Congratulations to Marie Kasprzak, Badger 4-H!

Marie’s photo, “Serenity”, was selected as one of the Top 12 photos in the annual State 4-H Youth Photo Exhibit. There are more than 130 photos submitted for the exhibit each year, so being selected as a Top 12 photo is quite an achievement! In August, the entire exhibit is displayed at the Wisconsin State Fair and then becomes a traveling exhibit that can be borrowed through the Cooperative Extension Media Collection. To see Marie’s photo and the other Top 12 selections, go to http://fyi.uwex.edu/wi4harts/state-photo-exhibit/.

Clothing Revue at State Fair If you are interested in attending State Fair in the Clothing Revue project, you must exhibit in Style Revue and be 12 years old as of January 1, 2017. Planter/Container Decorating Contest The Rock County 4-H Fair is sponsoring a Floral Planter/Container Decorating Contest. Each club/chapter that participates will receive a donation of $20.00 per club/chapter (not per planter) from the Fair Board. You may enter more than one planter for your club or chapter. Please review the guidelines below, as some changes have been made. In the past, the planters were provided for this contest. We will have a limited number of planters available for this year’s contest, or you may use a container of your own/choice (old chairs, small wheelbarrows, water tanks, watering cans, pails, etc.).

Planter Contest Guidelines Planters are available at the Fair Secretary’s Office. You may also use a container of choice.

Planter decorations will need to be in the planter with the flowers, or non-permanent decorations may be attached to the outside as long as the planter is still portable. If you use a container of choice, be sure that it is still portable, easy to move. Decorations on your container can be permanent. Appropriate filler should be used with the potting soil so the

planters/containers are not too heavy. Be sure that planter/container is identified with your club/chapter name.

Decorated floral planters/containers must be delivered to the fairgrounds between July 21 and noon on July 24. Be sure to check in at the Fair Secretary’s Office when you drop off your planter. Late arrivals can be displayed but will not be judged and will not receive a club/chapter donation.

Each planter/container will be judged on creativity. Your club/chapter name must appear in/on the planter/container. Judging will take place prior to the opening of the fair.
