I am so excited to announce that NASA’s Charter Petition has been

renewed by the Los Angeles Unified School Board! We have been giv-

en five (5) more years to continue the great work we do for the fami-

parents who have unselfishly partnered with us in reaching the goals

and vision of NEW Academy. A special thanks to our teachers, staff

sure we have the support we need! All right everybody…let’s keep

moving!!

Our assignment was to build and write a

report on a mission that each was as-

signed to. The missions were fun to

build. Some parts were harder than oth-

ers to build. It took some of us a long

time to build the missions. We build the

missions to get a grade for our social

studies. We needed to do research. We

wrote the report in our own words. Some

of us needed to buy materials to build the missions. Our parents helped us

with our missions. We did them during our winter vacation. We studied a

lot. Because of the project, we now know more facts about our mis-

sions. We had to stay focused. - 4th grade class

In the language arts unit, Kinder A and B are learning about animals. In each class, students were assigned farm animals. They received a fig-ure of an animal which they used in their project. The students had to provide their animals the basic necessities to survive (for example: water, food, and a place to sleep). To create the environ-ment, they used cardboard or a box. They deco-rated the environment with any materials they had accessible.

Student Council Message

On December 11, first grade session B presented a project on environments. The students were divided into small groups. Each group was given the opportunity to select an environ-ment. The environments chosen were rainforest, ocean, de-sert, mountains, city and stream. The students did research to find the different kids of living and non-living things found in the environment which they were studying. The students showed a powerpoint presentation to present their findings. The project was a great success! The learning experience was a lot of fun for all the students.

Art with Ms. Koehler This month we are studying art from the Asante people of Ghana, Africa. Kinder and First grade are studying their use of patterns and geometric shapes, then creating weara-ble art inspired by what they see.

Second, Third, and Fourth grade are studying the kente cloth, woven fabric with patterns named after important people, events, and proverbs. They are making paper weavings inspired by the kente cloth and creating their own kente patterns and symbols.

Fifth grade is studying the Asante people and the gold trade. Students are sculpting their own “goldweights” out of modeling clay.

Me gustaría agradecer a nuestros estu-
