Reading Month Reward Reveal! Our students were asked to write a persuasive essay for what they think Mrs.

Stager should do if they reach their 40,000 page goal for March. The winner

was Sara Rasmussen in the 5th grade. Her essay is below, and you can see

the video reveal on the front page of the website at http://stmarysrockwood.net

I have found a great idea for Mrs. Stager to do for our reading challenge. It is somethingthat all the kids could participate in, they could get a laugh at Mrs. Stager but she wouldnot have to be too embarrassed or kiss a pig. My idea is called Pitchburst.

First of all, Pitchburst is similar to a dunk tank. With this in mind, it does not have any ofthe troubles of a dunk tank. It does not take much water, sets up in 5 minutes, and is nottoo expensive to rent. First, you fill a big balloon with water (or anything else you’d likeinside the balloon). Second, Mrs. Stager would sit in a lawn chair. Third, the balloon would go over her head. Fourth, everyone in the school would get to throw a ball one timeat a target that pops the balloon. Eventually this would cause the balloon to pop over herhead. The smaller kids would be closer to the Pitchburst, the older kids would standfurther away. This idea is neat because everyone in the school would get a chance to pop a balloon. An exciting twist would be to fill maybe 4 balloons with something other than water. A couple ideas would be confetti or a balloon filled with colored jello. None of thekids or even Mrs. Stager would know when one of the “special” balloons are over her head.Everyone would be so excited, waiting to see if a “special” balloon will pop!

In summary, the idea for a Pitchburst would be exciting to everyone because everystudents would get a chance to get Mrs. Stager wet. The Pitchburst is easy to set up, would not “harm” Mrs. Stager much, and everyone would be so excited, waiting for the“special” balloons.

Congratulations! “Book Lovers” by 3 Kids

and a Leprechaun was selected as the final

weekly prize drawing winner in the 2014Math Video Challenge. Each student on this

team received a $25.00 Amazon gift card.

Team members were Alex Comorski,

Elizabeth Gower and Allie Marcyan. They

were coached by Mrs. Furtah.

SAVE YOUR CANS & BOTTLES

and BRING THEM TO ST. MARY SCHOOL

The PTO bottle drive is in full swing and we appreciate your participation. Please

continue to bring your cans & bottles (cans & bottles only  please) that have been

accumulating in your garage and leave them at St. Mary School. We will be more than

happy to take care of them for you. There will be a large green container marked

“Bottle Drive” in the back of the school, and all proceeds will benefit Pennies for

Playground. Tell your family, friends and even neighbors and spread the news. Our

bottle drive will continue through the end of the school year. If you have any questions,

please email PTO Secretary, Maureen Brinker, at [email protected].

Thank you for your continued cooperation.

St. Mary PTO - Pennies for Playground“Pay Our Loan Off” campaign:

The time has come to bring in all the coin & bills you have been saving since the fall, and get ready for our Pennies for Playground “Pay Our Loan Off” spring campaign.

It begins on Monday, March 17 through Friday, March 21 (mornings only).

This time ANYTHING GOES  (coin & bills), and the class that brings in the most moneywill have a pizza party hosted by the PTO. (The time & date of the party will be determined,

once we speak with the teacher of the winning classroom).

We will need parent volunteers to count money every morning, immediately followingprayer, beginning around 8:40 am. If you are able to help, please email CindyMajlinger, PTO Treasurer, at [email protected]. Remember, all volunteer time willgo towards your required service hours for this school year.

We are nearing our goal, but still have some work to do. If we are successful in payingoff our $4,000 loan, and if there are excess funds, we would like to purchase a benchand trash container for the playground area.

The victorious class will be mentioned during the Friday,March 21st afternoon announcements.

As always, on behalf of your St. Mary PTO we thank you, your children & the staff for participating in our program.
