Rocket technologyUsing a single, common vacuum pump, the Rocket creates twovacuum environments:

a low vacuum causes the solvents in the sample to boil at alow temperature, often below 0°C;

a second vacuum environment boils deionised water to make lowtemperature, low pressure steam.The temperature of the steamheating the vessel or flasks in theRocket is controlled in this way,while the temperature of thealuminium outer chamber is alsocarefully controlled at the user’sset temperature.

Solvents boiling in the flasks or vessel will cause cooling, thereforethe steam created by the Rocketwill condense on the cold outersurface of the flask or vessel.

Condensation of steam releases energy into the samples to speedevaporation, without heating thesamples themselves. Condensedsteam is thrown off due to therotational force and re-boiled tomake more steam.

Features of the Rocket 4D Synergy only:

Autofeed coupling enables large volumesof solvent to be fed into the evaporationvessel under control of the evaporator, toensure safe, rapid evaporation orconcentration.

Autofeed option with sample feed viacentre of inner lid.

Revolutionary Rocket SynergyRocket Evaporators use patented vacuum technology to evaporate solutions to dryness, or a concentrate, rapidly and safely. The latest Synergy series offers integrated, flexiblesolutions for processing a wide range of sample volumes. Interchangeable rotors willaccommodate tubes, flasks and batch volumes of up to 100L.

Two models are offered: Rocket Synergy, will evaporate samples in flasks, tubes, or a variety of innovativeGenevac sample holders such as the SampleGenie. The removable rotor may bereplaced with a 316 stainless steel vessel for batch processing of up to 5L.

Rocket 4D Synergy is designed primarily to evaporate large sample volumes, with autofeed for volumes >5L. The Rocket 4D Synergy can also be fitted with a removableflask rotor to accommodate the full range of Rocket Sample handling solutions such asflasks, tubes and SampleGenie.

The secret of perfect resultsRocket software monitors the temperature of coolant entering the condenser and compares it with the temperature of that leaving the condenser. The difference (Delta T) equates to the heat energy

transferred from the evaporated solvent to the condenser and isproportional to the flow rate of solvent vapour entering the condenser.As samples approach concentration or dryness, the change in isused to determine the auto stop point.

The RocketSynergy high speedevaporator is designed to dry orconcentrate up to six flasks, each containing a maximum of 450ml of solvent, or 18 ASE® vials, with no user intervention or attention. The removable flask rotor may also be replaced with a 5 litre stainless steel

vessel for batch processing (see Rocket 4DSynergy section for more details).It is five times faster than other‘intelligent’ evaporators and is capable ofreplacing several rotary evaporators,saving valuable bench space.

Rocket controls are very easy to use. Loadyour samples, select the correct method,press start and walk away. The evaporatoris equipped with high performancefeatures that prevent foaming, bumpingand cross contamination. A built-in coldtrap provides very high levels of solventrecovery, even with volatile organicsolvents. Auto-draining, under the controlof the Rocket, ensures optimal solventrecovery is maintained under allconditions.

Using SampleGenie™ or Flip-Flop™ sample handling systemsfurther extends the scope of theRocket Synergy. Methods onevery Rocket Synergy can easily beoptimised, and new methodsuploaded via USB key. Data isdownloaded in the same way.

The Rocket has an on-board strobethat allows each of the six flaskpositions to be viewed separately inreal time.

Rocket 4DSynergy is a fully automated systemfor drying or concentrating verylarge volumes with no userintervention and in completeconfidence – no bumping, foamingor sample loss. Simply load yoursample, select the correct method,press start, and walk away – thesystem will do the rest.

The Rocket 4D Synergy can also befitted with a removable flask rotor toaccommodate the full range ofRocket Sample handling solutionssuch as flasks, tubes andSampleGenie (see Rocket Synergysection for more details).

Rocket 4D Synergy – space and time for science

Solvents in the vessel are boiledunder a separate vacuum and so willbe at much lower temperature thanthe steam surrounding the vessel.By spinning the product vessel athigh speed, the g-forces generatedcontrol the pattern of boiling so thatbumping and foaming areeliminated.

Rocket 4D Synergy’s 5 litre 316 stainlessbowl rotor has detachable handles and iseasily lifted into and out of theevaporator. Access to the dried orconcentrated product in the vesselis very easy. Dried products canbe scooped out, or re-dissolvedwhile the vessel is still in thesystem. Liquid products can beeasily drained via a drain portin the side of the rotor, using adedicated pouring stand.

Users wishing to dryvolumes larger thanfive litres shouldchoose the ‘Autofeed’option, which enables theRocket 4D Synergy to draw inproduct from the user’s ownexternal supply. The Rocket4D Synergy controls productfeed, drying and thedischarge of condensed wastesolvent without any externalintervention.

The autofeed system has anintegrated rinse circuit, whichwashes the system throughwith compatible cleansolvent and then air, toprevent drying ofproduct in theautofeedmechanism. Driedproducts may beautomatically re-dissolved in a small volume ofsolvent at the end of the process, usingsolvent from the rinse system.Alternatively, the same circuit can beused under manual control for solventexchange by substituting a differentsolvent for re-dissolve.

Cleaning the Rocket 4D Synergybetween cycles is very straightforward.The PTFE feed tubing is easily detachedfor cleaning or replacement and thevessel can be readily cleaned, wiped,inspected and even put in adishwasher. It’s all so easy comparedwith handling large glass evaporatorflasks!
