    What makes it fly?!

    1. The COMPRESSED AIR pusheson the water as it tries to expand.

    2. The water is pusheddownward through the nozzle.

    4. The thrust pushes the

    rocket upward into the sky!

    5. The fin and the nose coneact together to keep the rocketfrom tumbling.

    3. When water rushes throughthe nozzle, it makes THRUST.

    Too much water?

    1. The rocket runs out of airpressure before all of thewater is pushed out.

    2. Since the water is nolonger being pushed out, therocket loses THRUST.

    3. The rocket and all of theextra water fall to theground!

    Not enough water?

    1. The rocket runs out of waterbefore it runs out of AIRPRESSURE.

    2. Since there is no more water

rushing through the nozzle, therocket loses THRUST.

    4. The empty bottle coasts fora while, but then falls to theground.

    3. All of the extra AIR PRESSUREis wasted through the nozzle.

    Lets Experiment!

Question: What amount of water will make therocket fly the highest?

    Procedure:

    1. Fill the rocket completely with water.

    2. Mount the rocket on the launcher and pump itup to 30 psi.

    3. Launch the rocket, and measure the height bymeasuring the length of fishing line it pulls off thereel.4. Record the measurement and any observations

    on the datasheet.

    5. Repeat steps 1-4 with the bottle full, full, full, and empty.
