SOAR Passbook Day
Today our Meyers students and staff
participated in our first SOAR
Passbook Day. Our PBIS (Positive
Behavior Intervention Support) team
along with student leadership created
an event where students rotated
through stations to review and
practice demonstrating our school
rules. The student leadership team
presented the students with a review, the time to practice
and a couple of scenarios where students were able to identify
what was going well and what needed improvement. The goal
was for this to be a positive event for us to review and
strengthen student conduct at school. Students rotated through
stations focused on drop off and pick up, the playground,
cafeteria, classroom and bathrooms, hallways and office. If you
picked up your student in the pick up line today you may have
noticed our students SOARing. It was a great morning and we
were all proud of all of our students. Go EAGLES!
We want to send a BIG THANK YOU to our PSP and class-
room parents for their wonderful treats this week. They have
showered the staff with goodies for conference week. We have
loved everything and are so appreciative. Again, thank you!
The iTunes store is filled with all kinds of apps. It is certainly a difficult task to find applications that you feel are valuable for your kids. Next time you are looking for an app or want to find what others are saying about one try using one of these six sites: Common Sense Media, Academics Choice, Kindertown, Parents’ Choice, Tech with Kids or Geeks with Juniors. To read more about each site check out this article by Mommy Mala.

Yearbook Photos Needed!
The production for the 2016-17 yearbook is underway. It takes upwards of 1,000 photos to make a great yearbook where all kids feel represented. We are looking for photos you have taken in the classroom, on field trips, or at school events. If you have photos you can get them submitted in a couple of ways:
Burn high resolution images to a CD or flash drive and leave in the office. If you would like your media back, please put you name on it.
Email Lisa Haddad at [email protected] to get added to a Dropbox where you can upload your photos.
Yearbook Photographers Needed!
If you are able to take pictures on campus during the next couple of months, please contact Lisa Haddad at [email protected].

If you have any questions regarding Yearbook orders, please contact Dena 916-871-6958 or Edna 916-844-1213.

Kindergarten Only
Vision and hearing screening for Kindergarten will begin on November 4,
2017. According to California Education Law, students in selected grades
are screened annually for distance and near vision acuity, hyperopia, color
perception and hearing. The School Nurse will notify parents if any concern is noted. Private
screening in lieu of screening by the school nurse is acceptable. Results should be documented by
the student’s MD and presented to the school office for documentation in the student's health
file. Parental written refusal of school screening should be submitted to school office prior to the
date of screening.
Grades K Through 3rd
Nominated Book
IT’S AN ORANGE AARDVARK
By Michael Hall
Our next nominated book for Primary listeners is It’s an Orange
Aardvark by Michael Hall. In this story, five carpenter ants at home
in their tree stump hear a noise. What is it? One ant thinks it is a
hungry aardvark lurking outside the stump, just waiting to eat them.
One ant makes a hole in the stump to see. Orange light floods the stump—it's not an aardvark, proclaims the
ant chorus. It's orange! So what is lurking outside the stump? This very funny picture book features die-cut
holes on almost every page, suspenseful page turns, a wonderful surprise ending, and an introduction to a
rainbow of colors.
Ideas to Enrich your Child’s CYRM Participation:
There are many wonderful art projects to try at home. One is to take an old detergent bottle and recreate it into
an aardvark. Check out this designers website for inspiration.

THE KITE THAT BRIDGED TWO NATIONS
By Alexis O’Neill
Flying a kite seems like an innocent pleasure except to Homan. He sees
kite-flying as a means to win the contest money. At the same time, the
winner will provide the first step in set up a way to link two countries.
Sometimes, a process takes more than just one try.
Ideas to Enrich your Child’s CYRM Participation
Try building your own kite. There is a barn door kite shown on YouTube that can be accessed from Alexis
O’Neill’s website (www.alexisoneill.com/activities).
You may want to research the different types of bridges and their materials.
Lastly, try creating a diorama for the bridge setting. Use a river, waterfall, or bay entrance as possibilities.
Try different types of bridges and keep a journal of each attempt. It may take more than just effort to build
a bridge that will suffice.
