Rodgers Leask has been providing design services to the construction industry for over 25 years. These services include traffic and trans-

portation consultancy. Most developments of any reasonable size require a transport assessment. A transport assessment is the study of

the effect of the development upon the transport network.

Above: Example of a gravity model visualisation, showing the travel time over population squared. Produced by using CENSUS data cross referenced to the Google journey time assessment. The blue shows areas that will contribute more trips to the development, with the red areas contributing the least.

Right: An assessment of accident locations, showing severity and location produced for a recent transport assessment study.

From initial feasibility of a site through to the con-struction of the infrastructure, Rodgers Leask Ltd have the transport and traffic engineering capabil-ity to support your project.

Below: An example of initial junction design work com-pleted for a prestigious development. The junction provides minimal delay whilst minimising costs and providing man-agement of the traffic flow through the use of Micro Proces-sor Vehicle Actuation (MOVA)

Works that can be undertaken by Rodgers Leask includes:

Transport Assessment / Statement production

Travel Planning

Junction Modelling (priority junction / round-about / traffic signals and signalised round-abouts)

Parking Assessment

Accessibility Appraisal

Detailed junction design

Detailed traffic signal design and commission-ing

Development optimisation (identification of ca-pacity limits of existing junctions to identify limit-ing factors)

Feasibility Assessment

Intelligent Transport Systems

Multi Modal Assessments

Liaison and negotiation with highway authorities

Transport Planning & Engineering

Travel Planning is a requirement for the vast majority of planning applications. Modern society has grown around the car and as a result residential and work places are often disparate. This leads to a reliance upon the car and the consequential pollution and congestion issues that arise. Travel plans are documents that seek to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles used to travel to the development. Travel Planning requires the assessment of:

Public transport services and facilities local to the development

Facilities for walking to the development

Facilities for cycling to the development. Measurement of existing performances will be taken as a benchmark to measure improvement against. Following this measures will be suggested that promote sustainable travel. An example of these measures could be;

Showering and cycle storage facilities

Bus shelter provision or bus service penetration of the site

Car club establishment (short term car loan for an annual fee)

Cycle Buddy Club (matching up experienced cyclists with beginners)

Walking route improvement (paving / lighting / crossing points etc)
