Roland Barthes
Roland Barthesin deconstructing the processeswhat Roland Barthes calls the
mythologiesby which ideology contains and reinforces itself. As
Barthes had shown, writing degree zero, a discourse that exists outside
ideology, is impossible.
The Barthesian reply, put simply, I dont know.Barthes
particular concern in Myth Today is with the way cultural associations and
social knowledge attach themselves to signifieds. He calls these attachments
myths, not meaning to suggest that they are necessarily untrue, but that they
operate, as do myths in what we think of as more primitive societies, to explain
our world for us.
