Digital Champion Volunteer Role Description Project Name: Include-IT Mersey Project Overview: Funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Big Lottery Fund, the Include-IT Mersey project will provide targeted, personalised digital skills development and employment support to digitally excluded, unemployed/economically inactive residents of the Liverpool City Region (LCR) to improve their basic ICT and online skills, confidence and access to digital technologies, enabling them to overcome barriers resulting from a lack of digital skills. Location of Position: The Digital Champions will be located in all six boroughs of the Liverpool City Region. Project Overview: Funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Big Lottery Fund, the Include-IT Mersey project will provide targeted, personalised digital skills development and employment support to digitally excluded, unemployed/economically inactive residents of the Liverpool City Region (LCR) to improve their basic ICT and online skills, confidence and access to digital technologies, enabling them to overcome barriers resulting from a lack of digital skills.

Responsible to: Include-IT Volunteer Coordinator

Purpose/ summary of role : Promoting the Include-IT Mersey project, raising awareness of free IT training available to members of the public, encouraging members of the public to access this training and providing support to participants.

Description of tasks : Promoting Include-IT Mersey in targeted communities Promoting the benefits of digital inclusion Identifying members of the public who are interested in accessing IT training and

refer on to training partners Assist with the provision of Digital Surgeries, which trainees can attend to access

additional support Liaise with trainees to check how they are experiencing training, providing

encouragement where participation may be wavering Supporting trainees, especially those with a disability/ learning difficulty, mental

health or long term health condition to complete the training Liaising with Volunteer Co-ordinators to plan and carry out work in the local

community Attending Volunteer Team Meetings Working within prescribed policies and procedures Keeping track of Include-IT Mersey equipment and use it appropriately

Time Commitment: Volunteering will predominantly take place Mondays to Fridays between the 9 and 5, although there may be opportunities for occasional weekend volunteering at Digital Surgeries or local events. The hours of volunteering will be flexible depending on the volunteer.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications: Excellent telephone manner and people skills Outgoing, friendly and proactive character Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, databases and emails Be comfortable volunteering within a group or by yourself Good communication skills Being able to use your own initiative but be able to ask for help when you need Enthusiastic about the positive effect that technology can have on someone’s life Understanding and accommodating of people’s interests and motivations for learning

Reimbursement of expenses: Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed, upon provision of tickets and receipts.
