Role of a mySAP Functional Consultant

What are the differences between a functional and business consultant?

The difference between Functional consultant and Business consultant are as follows:

    1) A functional consultant is able to configure the system unlike business consultant.

    2) Functional consultant know more about business process unlike Business consultant.) A business consultant will bring business process knowledge and pro!ide it to functional

consultant who in turn used this knowledge to configure the system.

") Functional consultant has more configuration knowledge then Business consultant. *-- Rocky

The resonsibilities of a suort consultant are!

    # $rimarily responsible for %andling tickets and application support to the end users# &hen an issue comes diagnose' analyse and sol!e the issue

For those who wished to know the role of a functional consultant"Below is one !iew:

A functional consultant e!aluates the demands in talking with the customer*s representati!es'transforms the essence into an abstract and algorithmic business model. %ence' he identifies the

use cases and transforms them into logical and technical !iews.

Then the main task starts: customi+ing the respecti!e business area and making sure the systemreacts in the manner according to the constraints of the re,uested use case.

The consultant documents the settings and prepares proper guidelines that allow otherconsultants to do further changes or repairs with due efforts.

The consultant takes care that proper training is gi!en to the users and that the system is usable'

performing appropriately and the business flow is complete and correct.

-uring go li!e he assists the technical staff by testing the beha!iour of the system.

After go li!e he guarantees that the procedures remain usable and consistent in real li!e situation

    and proposes enhancements.

The main duty of a consultant is to transfer eternal know#how to the client. t is not manpower

that counts but intelligence' understanding of processes' a feeling for defects and general acommon sense.

Role of a Functional Consultant in an #nd To #nd $mlementation

&hen you talk about the role of a Functional consultant in an end to end implementation' thinkit won*t be possible for me or anybody to define e!erything but will try to summari+e it:

    1. Functional consultant is epected to generate knowledge about the current business process'design current business flows' study current business processes and its complication' in all we

can say getting through with current business setup. Flow diagrams and -F- are prepared' most

of the time in /ision format' all this forms the part of A0 0 document.

    2. !erything configured has to be documented as per their categories in the form of predefined

templates' these ha!e to be then appro!ed by the team leads or who e!er the consultant is

    reporting to.

. apping and 3A$ analysis is done for each module' ha!e seen people defining integration

after mapping' gap analysis and configuration is done' but as per my eperience in

implementation' it is a simultaneous process.

". Before starting configuring future business processes in 0A$' the -F-4(- are prepared' this

documentation is called T5 B' which can be also said as the result of mapping and gap

    analysis.

    6. 0ometimes Functional consultants are also epected to prepare test scripts for testing the

    configured scenarios.

    7. nd user manual and user training is also epected from F.8onsultants.

The pro9ect normally starts off with a ick off meeting in which the team si+e' team members'

reporting system' responsibilities' duties' methodology' dates and schedules' working hourswhich ha!e been predicted are formally defined.

A0A$' it won*t be possible for me to eplain it here' but all can tell you about it is that it is 0A$standard implementation methodology' which 0A$ prescribes but is not mandatory for anycompany to follow' such as B follow some blue ethodology' some companies follow typical

0-;8 steps' A0A$ stands for Accelerated 0A$' you can find all the steps on 0A$ site' through

google' reading it from there won*t gi!e you a great knowledge about A0A$ but will ob!iouslyget you to know the definitions of !arious term
