St Josaphat's Right to Life Committee is sponsoring its Baby Shower for Life this year from November 30th to December 15th on behalf of Bright Dawn Ministry. Sr. Dorothy Rothar, who founded Bright Dawn Ministry, provides sidewalk counseling outside abortion clinics, such as Choices in Jamaica, Queens. Thanks to your donations and gifts received from other parishes, Sr. Dorothy can organize a monthly baby shower at The Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston to provide these brave mothers with much needed supplies to care for their new baby. The Baptism of the baby is also arranged by Sr. Dorothy. Please place your gifts of baby clothes for girls and boys, diapers and other baby items in the Carriage of Love placed by the side altar with the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Monetary donations can be made by dropping off checks payable to Sr. Dorothy Rothar, CSJ in the Pennies for Life donation box in the back of the church. Thank you for your generosity and God bless you!
Thank you all of our guests who attended Saint Jos-aphat’s Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner Dance on No-vember 13th. It would not have been such a great suc-cess without you. We would thank Elizabeth Rudowski, Stephanie Fable and Carol Yaros for all the organizing, shop-ping, setting up the hall up, cooking and clean up that was involved with such a successful event. In addition, we would like to thank all those that volun-teered at the event for all your hard work. Steven Fable, Margaret Farley, Gina Di Libero, Dorothy Pelczar, Julia Grzica and Rosemarie Veljak. Due to your efforts, $2753 was donated to St. Josaphat’s Church. Saint Josaphat’s relies heavily on our volunteers to sup-port our church. Events like this would not be possible without them.

Munera: Teach, Govern, and Sanctify.
We know it is coming and it always seems too early to mention it, especially when we see signs and hints of it in August but, now is the time to mention it… Christmas is coming! Today we begin Advent. I must be honest Advent is one of my favorite Liturgi-cal Seasons, I sometimes wish it was restored to six weeks as it was at one time in church history and still kept in practice in the Ambrosian Rite were Ad-vent begins on the Sunday closest to the feast of St. Martin of Tours (November 11) making Advent a six week preparation for Christmas. Advent has a nick-name of St. Martin’s Lent or St. Martin’s Fast. At one time the Advent Fast was just as strict as the one practiced in Lent. The Lenten Fast is known as an Apostolic Fast whereas the Advent one is of mo-nastic origins. In a health conscience way to do a little fasting and abstaining would be good since we tend to eat so many rich foods during Christmas. But now it seems like the idea of fasting is so for-eign, especially in our country, where Christmas is celebrated from Thanksgiving until Christmas day. We need time to prepare for the great gift of Christ-mas which is Jesus. Perhaps the question would be: why would we not want to fast, pray, and prepare for the coming of Jesus? So, may I ask you to take seriously these Advent days and make sure you truly prepare yourself for Christmas and remember that Christmas starts on December the 25th; we are in the Advent Season not the Christmas one yet! This year we will institute a great Advent tradition which will help us prepare for Christmas. It is a ser-vice known as Lessons and Carols which is a series of biblical readings and sacred hymns all geared up to help us meditate on Christ’s second coming and His coming as a baby in Bethlehem. Lessons and Carols will be held on Sunday, December the 8th at 4:00PM in the church. It will give all who attend an opportunity to hear our beautiful parish choir praise God in song. We will also have “Here We Come A-Carolling” on Friday, December 13 at 7:30 PM which I will write about next week. In Christ,
Fr. Saffron
