Dear Friends in Christ,
Greengs of Peace and Love!
I found English to be such a strange language. There are some words that are idencal, but when pronounced differently, conveys a different meaning. They were too close to the door to close it. What? The insurance was invalid for the invalid. Huh? The farm was used to produce produce. Eh? And how about this? Since there is no me like the present, he thought it was me to present the present.
In the context of the celebraon of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ this weekend, allow me to introduce to you four significant words, that have four significant meanings, aer the priest consecrates the bread and wine. These words are also some of the reasons why we go to Mass.
Takes--the first word and the first reason. What do we take to Mass? What we have, how we do, who we are. The envelope that we take to Church represents some of what we have. It is what we give back. The way we take it on at Mass shows how we feel towards God and how we relate with each other. It is what our children and grandchildren take aer us.
Thanks--the second word. It is an informal expression of gratude, appreciaon or acknowledgement. What we do, we give thanks at Mass. This is the mantra I always share. We give thanks for three essenal gis that we all have: the gi of life, the gi of love and the gi of faith.
Breaks--the third word. There are 115 meanings of the word in the diconary, 11 less than the word take, which could probably mean that we take more than we break. What do we break at Mass? Symbolically, we break the bread, but in reality, it is ourselves that we need to break. Symbolically, we have crushed the grapes and made it into wine, but in reality, it is our self-centeredness that we need to crush.
We can never arrive at the fourth word, which is the reason for the Eucharist, unless we have been broken and unless we have been crushed. However, unless we had been broken like bread, unless we had been crushed and turned like wine, we will never know how it is to really share.
Which is the fourth word and reason--Shares. There are only seven meanings of the word in the diconary, equally the same number as the word thanks. What do we share at Mass? Two words. Ourselves and Jesus, who is the fih reason why we have to be at Mass. Jesus is not a noun, a verb phrase, a verb with object or an idiom. He is the Word. He is essenally and really present in the Holy Eucharist, where the three meanings of present come together. Here we go again.
He is present, not absent. He is present, not past. He is present as a gi, really given, truly shared.
At Mass, like some of our English words, the bread and wine may look idencal like the familiar and usual bread and wine, but when pronounced differently, they take on a different meaning. They become the Body and Blood of Christ. Have a blessed, safe and enjoyable weekend!

The Knights of Columbus of the parishes of St. Jerome, St. Mary, and St. Dorothea's is offering an open invitation to all good Christian men age 18 and older to contact the Knights of Columbus. Find out how YOU can become part of the world's largest Catholic organization. The friendship, brotherhood, and general kindness of this ministry can not be described in a paragraph or two. It is people helping people in the truest sense of the word. Many people think of us as just a religious organization. However, as soldiers of Christ, we truly band together to help our brothers and sisters, no matter what faith. Our programs are many, but to mention a few: we sponsor Soldiers Home for the Holidays, parties for many organizations who help individuals who may not be able to help themselves, The Soldier's Moral Program, car washes in participation with the students of St. Jerome School, flower sales for Mother's Day and the Fall, Thanksgiving Food Drive and many other events and programs. In doing all of these programs, we have fun as well while we are helping others, and you can be as active as you wish to be. If you would like to become involved with great people and feel good about your participation, I encourage you to contact a Knight and get involved.

Saint Jerome School Tuion Assistance
Thank you for your generosity! We are thrilled to announce that due to the kindness and generosity of our St. Jerome and St. Mary families, we have reached our goal of funding the enre balance of the 17-18 tuion assistance fund. Our goal was $31,000 dollars and one of our parishioners at St. Mary came forward and donated the enre amount. His generosity and several others who donated is overwhelming. We are truly grateful.
The donaons that exceeded our need for 17/18 were immediately put towards the 18/19 tuion assistance need, which we ancipate will be approximately $90,000. Please consider helping us in our mission to connue to provide a quality Catholic educaon for those less fortunate who desire to raise and educate their children in our Catholic faith.
If you would like to “adopt” a parcular child or family, we would provide you with the child’s name and picture. Twice a year we would share with you the child’s school progress, all of course with parental signed permission. In some instances our donors make monthly donaons as our families are billed monthly by the tuion company.
For more informaon or to make a donaon to our Tuion Assistance Fund, please contact Sr. Angelina or Debra Connor at the school office (732)222-8686.
Again we sincerely thank you for the tremendous response to our children's needs.
