Saturday Mass Time Survey

The Parish Council and Father Ted have decided that thecontinuation of two Saturday evening Masses is not productive forthe vibrancy of our parish. We are looking toward combining thetwo Masses sometime in 2018 and would like the input ofparishioners in determining what time would be best. A survey isincluded in the Oktoberfest ticket envelopes that each familyregistered in the parish will receive at the end of the month.(Surveys are being included in these envelopes as a matter oftiming and savings of postage – they have no connection toOktoberfest). Additional copies of the survey will be available in theparish office. Please place the completed surveys in the collectionboxes located at the entrance of both sites by June 1st.

Some factors considered in this decision are :

Attendance at each Saturday Mass is small. Finding ministers to fill all the slots is becoming more and

more difficult.

The music ministry has been strained to provide music at

all masses.

No changes will be made until 2018 because of scheduled mass intentions.

The Saturday masses will be rotated every 6 months between bothsites, so that each is impacted equally.

Thank you for you anticipated cooperation in this difficult decision and change.

What makes Eggs special at Easter? Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus’ emergence from the tomb andresurrection. Decorating eggs for Easter is a tradition that dates back to atleast the 13th century, according to some sources. The hard shell of theegg represents the sealed Tomb of Christ, and cracking the shellrepresents Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. Historically Christians wouldabstain from eating eggs and meat during Lent, and Easter was the firstchance to eat eggs. So people would paint and decorate them to mark theend of the period of penance and fasting, then eat them on Easter as acelebration.

Mass intentions–2017

On September 1st, we willbegin taking requests for2017. Masses can bescheduled in person or bymail. Mass intentions needto be paid for at the time ofscheduling. Everyone willhave the opportunity torequest no more than two (2)weekend Masses. If the daterequested is not availablethen the next closest will beoffered. These Masses willbe filled on a first come basisin person only, requests bymail will then be filled withthe closest dates to thoserequested in the order theyare received.

So many people like torequest Christmas, Easter,Mother’s Day, Father’s Dayand Thanksgiving Masses, that we are simply not ableto equitably offer theseMasses for individualintentions. We will in turnbe offering these Massesfor everyone as they willbe offered every year forAll Parishioners which ofcourse includes thoseliving and deceased.

Once everyone has had anopportunity to fill the fiveMasses, we will begin fillingthe remaining Masses for theyear. We hope this will helpto offer everyone theopportunity to have Massessaid for their intentions whileallowing for unexpectedMasses to be said in a timelyfashion.
