    Venirea lui Isus(Mt. 3.112; Lc. 3.19, 1517; Ioan 1.1928)

1 1Vestea Bun* despre Isus Cristos*, Fiullui Dumnezeu1, ncepe 2cu ceea ce aspus profetul* Isaia c se va ntmpla. Isaiaa scris:

Iat, Eu l trimit pe mesagerul Meu

naintea Ta.El ^i va pregti calea. Maleahi 3.1

3Iat glasul celui care strig n pustie:Pregti^i calea Domnului,

    netezi^i-I crrile. Isaia 40.3

4Ast fel , a venit Ioan Botezto ru l `i ab otez at o am en i n p ust ie. El le spu ne aoamenilor s se boteze* ca s arate c vor s-`i schimbe in ima `i via^a, pentr u capcatele s le fie iertate. 5To^i oamenii carelocuiau n Iudeea `i Ierusalim s-au dus laIoan. Ace ti oameni `i-au mrturisit pca-

tele `i au fost boteza^i de Ioan n rulIordan. 6Ioan purta haine din pr de cmi-l, iar la mijloc avea o curea din piele. Elmnca lcuste `i miere slbatic.

10Cum a ie`it din ap, Isus a vzutcerurile deschise `i Duhul* cobornd spre Elca un porumbel. 11i o voce s-a auzit dinceruri: Tu e`ti Fiul Meu preaiubit, n Tinemi gsesc plcerea.

11:1 the Son of God Some Greek copies do not have these words.

    John Prepares the Way for Jesus(Mt. 3:112; Lk. 3:19, 1517; Jn. 1:1928)

1 1The Good News* about Jesus Christ, the Sonof God,1 begins 2with what the prophet* Isaiahsaid would happen. He wrote:

Listen! I will send my messenger ahead of you.

He will prepare the way for you. Malachi 3:1

3There is someone shouting in the desert:Prepare the way for the Lord.

Make his paths straight. Isaiah 40:3

4So John the Baptizer* came and was baptizing*people in the desert area. He told them to be bap-tized to show that they wanted to change theirlives, and then their sins would be forgiven. 5Allthe people from Judea, including everyone fromJerusalem, came out to John. They confessed thebad things they had done, and he baptized them in

the Jordan River.6John wore clothes made from camels hair anda leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts* andwild honey.

7This is what John told the people: There issomeone coming later who is able to do more thanI can. I am not good enough to be the slave whostoops down to untie his sandals. 8I baptize youwith water, but the one who is coming will bap-tize you with the Holy Spirit.*

Jesus Is Baptized by John(Mt. 3:1317; Lk. 3:2122)

9About that time Jesus came from the town of

Nazareth in Galilee to the place where John was.John baptized* Jesus in the Jordan River. 10AsJesus was coming up out of the water, he saw thesky torn open. The Spirit* came down to him likea dove. 11A voice came from heaven and said,You are my Son, and I love you. I am verypleased with you.

You will bring in people, not fish. 18Sothey immediately left their nets and followed Jesus.

19Jesus continued walking by Lake Galilee. Hesaw two more brothers, James and John, the sons ofZebedee. They were in their boat, preparing theirnets to catch fish. 20Their father Zebedee and themen who worked for him were in the boat with thebrothers. When Jesus saw the brothers, he told themto come. They left their father and followed Jesus.

Oamenii de acolo I-au vorbit lui Isusdespre ea. 31Isus S-a dus la ea, a luat-o demn `i a ridicat-o. Febra a lsat-o, iar ea anceput s-I slujeasc.

32Seara, dup apusul soarelui, i-au adus laIsus pe to^i bolnavii `i pe cei poseda^i dedemoni*. 33Toat cetatea se adunase la u`aacelei case. 34Isus a vindecat mul^i oameni

care aveau diferite boli `i a scos multeduhuri rele. Dar El nu-i lsa pe ace`ti de-moni s vorbeasc, pentru c ei l cuno`teau.

    Isus Se pregte`te s spun Vestea Bun(Lc. 4.4244)

35Foarte devreme, cnd nc nu se lumina-se, Isus a plecat de acolo `i S-a dus ntr-un locpustiu s Se roage. 36Simon `i cei care eraucu El s-au dus s-L caute, 37iar cnd L-augsit, I-au spus: Toat lumea Te caut.

    38Dar Isus le-a spus: Trebuie s mergem`i n a`ezrile nvecinate, pentru ca s pre-

    Jesus Heals Many People(Mt. 8:1417; Lk. 4:3841)

29Jesus and the followers left the synagogue.*They all went with James and John to the home ofSimon and Andrew. 30Simons mother-in-law wasvery sick. She was in bed and had fever. Thepeople there told Jesus about her. 31So he went toher bed. Jesus held her hand and helped her standup. The fever left her, and she was healed. Thenshe began serving them.

32That night, after t he sun went down, thepeople brought to Jesus many who were sick. Theyalso brought those who had demons* inside them.33Everyone in the town gathered at the door of that

house. 34Jesus healed many of those who had dif-ferent kinds of sicknesses. He also forced manydemons out of people. But he would not allow thedemons to speak, because they knew who he was.1

Jesus Goes to Other Towns(Lk. 4:4244)

35The next morning Jesus woke up very early. Heleft the house while it was still dark and went to aplace where he could be alone and pray. 36Later,Simon and his friends went to look for Jesus. 37Theyfound him and said, Everyone is looking for you!

38Jesus answered, We should go to anotherplace. We can go to other towns around here, and

I can tell Gods message to those people too. Thatis why I came. 39So Jesus traveled everywhere inGalilee. He spoke in the synagogues,* and heforced demons* out of people.

41Jesus felt sorry for the man. So he touchedhim and said, I want to heal you. Be healed!42Immediately the leprosy disappeared, and theman was healed.

43Jesus told the man to go, but he gave him astrong warning: 44Dont tell anyone about what Idid for you. But go and show yourself to thepriest. And offer a gift to God because you havebeen healed. Offer the gift that Moses* com-manded.2 This will show everyone that you are

places where people did not live. But people camefrom all the towns to the places where he was.

    Jesus Heals a Crippled Man(Mt. 9:18; Lk. 5:1726)

2 1A few days later, Jesus came back to Caper-naum.* The news spread that he was backhome. 2A large crowd gathered to hear him speak. The house was so full that there was no place tostand, not even outside the door. While Jesus wasteaching, 3some people brought a paralyzed manto see him. He was being carried by four of them.4But they could not get the man inside to Jesusbecause the house was so full of people. So they

went to the roof above Jesus and made a hole in it.Then they lowered the mat with the paralyzedman on it. 5When Jesus saw how much faith theyhad, he said to the paralyzed man, Young man, your sins are forgiven.

6Some of the teachers of the law were sittingthere. They saw what Jesus did, and they said tothemselves, 7Why does this man say things likethat? What an insult to God! No one but God canforgive sins.

8Jesus knew immediately what these teachersof the law were thinking. So he said to them,

Why do you have these questions in your minds?910The Son of Man* has power on earth to for-give sins. But how can I prove this to you? Maybeyou are thinking it was easy for me to say to thecrippled man, Your sins are forgiven. Theres noproof it really happened. But what if I say to theman, Stand up. Take your mat and walk? Thenyou will be able to see if I really have this poweror not. So Jesus said to the paralyzed man, 11Itell you, stand up. Take your mat and go home.

12Immediately the paralyzed man stood up. Hepicked up his mat and walked out of the room.Everyone could see him. They were amazed andpraised God. They said, This is the most amazingthing we have ever seen!

17Isus a auzit `i le-a spus: Cei bolnaviau nevoie de doctor, nu cei snto`i! Eu nuam venit s-i chem pe cei drep^i, ci pe ceipcto`i.

Isus nu este la fel ca al i conductori religio`i(Mt. 9.1417; Lc. 5.3339)

18Ucenicii lui Ioan Boteztorul `i fariseii*

posteau.

22i nimeni nupune vin nou n burdufuri vechi. Pentru c

vinul ar sparge burdufurile `i atunci `i vinul,`i burdufurile s-ar strica. Vinul nou se punen burdufuri noi.

    Fariseii l critic pe Isus(Mt. 12.18; Lc. 6.15)

15Later that day, Jesus and his followers ate atLev i s house . The re were a l so many tax

17When Jesus heard this, he said to them, It isthe sick people who need a doctor, not those whoare healthy. I did not come to invite good people.I came to invite sinners.

Jesus Is Not Like Other Religious Leaders(Mt. 9:1417; Lk. 5:3339)

18The followers of John* and the Pharisees* were

fasting.* Some people came to Jesus and said,Johns followers fast, and the followers of thePharisees fast. But your followers dont fast. Why?

19Jesus answered, At a wedding the friends ofthe bridegroom* are not sad while he is with them. They cannot fast while the bridegroom is still there.20But the time will come when the bridegroom willbe taken from them. Then they will fast.

21When someone sews a patch over a hole inan old coat, they never use a piece of cloth that isnot yet shrunk. If they do, the patch will shrink andpull away from the coat. Then the hole will beworse. 22Also, no one ever pours new wine into old

    wineskins.*

The wine would break them, and thewine would be ruined along with the wineskins. You always put new wine into new wineskins.

Jesus Is Lord Over the Sabbath Day(Mt. 12:18; Lk. 6:15)

23On the Sabbath* day, Jesus and his followerswere walking through some grain fields. The fol-lowers picked some grain to eat. 24Some Phari-sees* said to Jesus, Why are your followersdoing this? It is against the law to pick grain onthe Sabbath.

25Jesus answered, You have read what David*did when he and the people with him were hungry

and needed food. 26It was during the time of Abi-athar the high priest.* David went into Godshouse and ate the bread that was offered to God.And the law of Moses* says that only priests caneat that bread. David also gave some of the breadto the people with him.

31Another time Jesus went into the synagogue.*In the synagogue there was a man with a crip-

pled hand. 2Some Jews there were watching Jesusclosely. They were waiting to see if he would healthe man on a Sabbath* day. They wanted to seeJesus do something wrong so that they couldaccuse him. 3Jesus said to the man with the crip-pled hand, Stand up here so that everyone cansee you.

4Then Jesus asked the people, Which is theright thing to do on the Sabbath day: to do good,or to do evil? Is it right to save a life or to destroyone? The people said nothing to answer him.

5Jesus looked at the people. He was angry, buthe felt very sad because they were so stubborn. He said to the man, Hold out your hand. Theman held out his hand, and it was healed. 6Thenthe Pharisees* left and made plans with the Hero-dians* about a way to kill Jesus.

A large crowd of people from Galilee followedthem. 8Many also came from Judea , f romJerusalem, from Idumea, from the area across theJordan River, and from the area around Tyre andSidon. These people came because they heard

about all that Jesus was doing.9Jesus saw how many people there were, so he

told his followers to get a small boat and make itready for him. He wanted the boat so that thecrowds of people could not push against him.10He had healed many of them, so all the sickpeople were pushing toward him to touch him.11Some people had evil spirits inside them. Whenthe evil spirits saw Jesus, they bowed before himand shouted, You are the Son of God! 12ButJesus gave the spirits a strong warning not to tellanyone who he was.

    A Story About a Farmer Sowing Seed(Mt. 13:19; Lk. 8:48)

4 1Another time Jesus began teaching by thelake, and a large crowd gathered around him.He got into a boat so that he could sit and teachfrom the lake. All the people stayed on the shorenear the water. 2Jesus used stories to teach themmany things. One of his lessons included thisstory:

3Listen! A farmer went out to sow seed.4While he was scattering the seed, some of it fellby the road. The birds came and ate all that seed.5Other seed fell on rocky ground, where there wasnot enough dirt. It grew quickly there because the

soil was not deep. 6But then the sun rose and theplants were burned. They died because they didnot have deep roots. 7Some other seed fell amongthorny weeds. The weeds grew and stopped thegood plants from growing. So they did not makegrain. 8But some of the seed fell on good ground. There it began to grow, and it made grain. Someplants made 30 times more grain, some 60 timesmore, and some 100 times more.

9Then Jesus said, You people who hear me,listen!

Why Jesus Used Stories to Teach(Mt. 13:1017; Lk. 8:910)

10Later, Jesus was away from the people. Thetwelve apostles* and his other followers askedhim about the stories.

11Jesus said, Only you can know the secrettruth about Gods kingdom.* But to those otherpeople I tell everything by using stories. 12I dothis so that:

16Other people are like the seed planted on

rocky ground. They hear the teaching, and theyquickly and gladly accept it. 17But they dont allowit to go deep into their lives. They keep it only ashort time. As soon as trouble or persecution* comesbecause of the teaching they accepted, they give up.

18Others are like the seed planted among thethorny weeds. They hear the teaching, 19but theirlives become full of other things: the worries ofthis life, the love of money, and everything elsethey want. This keeps the teaching from growing, and it does not produce a crop1 in their lives.

20And others are like the seed planted on thegood ground. They hear the teaching and acceptit. Then they grow and produce a good cropsometimes 30 times more, sometimes 60 timesmore, and sometimes 100 times more.

Use the Understanding You Have(Lk. 8:1618)

21Then Jesus said to them, You dont take alamp and hide it under a bowl or a bed, do you?Of course not. You put it on a lampstand.22Everything that is hidden will be made clear.Every secret thing will be made known. 23Youpeople who hear me, listen! 24Think carefullyabout what you are hearing. God will know howmuch to give you by how much you understand

now. But he will give you more than youdeserve. 25The people who have some under-standing will receive more. But those who do nothave much will lose even the small amount theyhave.

Jesus Uses a Story About Seed26Then Jesus said, Gods kingdom* is like a

man who plants seed in the ground. 27The seedbegins to grow. It grows night and day. Itdoesnt matter whether the man is sleeping or awake, the seed st il l grows. He doesnt knowhow it happens. 28Without any help the groundproduces grain. First the plant grows, then the

head, and then all the grain in the head. 29Whenthe grain is ready, the man cuts it. This is theharvest time.

27The woman heard about Jesus, so she fol-lowed him with the other people and touched hiscoat. 28She thought, If I can just touch hisclothes, that will be enough to heal me. 29Assoon as she touched his coat, her bleedingstopped. She felt that her body was healed fromall the suffering. 30Jesus immediately felt powergo out from him, so he stopped and turnedaround. Who touched my clothes? he asked.

31The followers said to Jesus, There are so

many people pushing against you. But you ask,Who touched me?

She told Jesus the wholestory. 34He said to her, Dear woman, you aremade well because you believed. Go in peace. You will not suffer any more.

35While Jesus was still there speaking, somemen came from the house of Jairus, the syna-gogue leader. They said, Your daughter is dead. There is no need to bother the teacher.

36But Jesus did not care what the men said. Hesaid to the synagogue leader, Dont be afraid;only believe.

Gods Law and Human Traditions(Mt. 15:120)

7 1Some Pharisees* and some teachers of thelaw came from Jerusalem and gatheredaround Jesus. 2They saw that some of his fol-lowers ate food with hands that were not clean, meaning that they did not wash their hands in aspecial way. 3The Pharisees and all the other Jewsnever eat before washing their hands in this spe-cial way. They do this to follow the traditions theyhave from their great leaders who lived long ago.4And when these Jews buy something in themarket, they never eat it until they wash it in aspecial way. They also follow other rules from

their people who lived before them. They followrules like the washing of cups, pitchers, and pots.15The Pharisees and teachers of the law said to

Jesus, Your followers dont follow the traditionswe have from our great leaders who lived longago. They eat their food with hands that are notclean. Why do they do this?

6Jesus answered, You are all hypocrites.*Isaiah was right when he wrote these words fromGod about you:

These people say they honor me,but they dont really make me

an important part of their lives.7 Their worship of me is for nothing.

The things they teach are only rulesthat people have made. Isaiah 29:13

think it is more important to follow those tradi-tions you have, which you pass on to others. Andyou do many things like that.

14Jesus called the people to him again. He said,

Everyone should listen to me and understand whatI am saying. 15There is nothing people can put intheir mouth that will make them wrong.1 People aremade wrong by what comes from inside them. [16}2

17Then Jesus left the people and went into thehouse. The followers asked Jesus about what hehad told the people. 18He said, You still havetrouble understanding? Surely you know thatnothing that enters the mouth from the outside canmake people unacceptable to God. 19Food doesnot go into a persons mind. It goes into thestomach. Then it goes out of the body. (WhenJesus said this, he meant that there is no food thatis wrong for people to eat.)

20And Jesus said, The things that make peoplewrong are the things that come from the inside.21All these bad things begin inside a person, in themind: bad thoughts, sexual sins, stealing, murder,22adultery,* greed, doing bad things to people, lying, doing things that are morally wrong, jeal-ousy, insulting people, proud talking, and foolishliving. 23These evil things come from inside aperson. And these are the things that make peopleunacceptable to God.

Shebegged Jesus to force the demon* out of herdaughter.
