    the CompanyProfessional Performance

Over the past two decades, the room acoustics has become one of the central themes in interior design. In the group of companies Eichhorn we have therefore concentrated the existing in-house expertise and innovation in this area and founded in 2004, the company akustik plus as a highly specialized company for the development and distribution of acoustically effective products.

At Head Quarter Wächtersbach near Fankfurt am Main we have 70 employee on a 10,000 square meters production area. Meanwhile, the company akustik plus owns several patents on product and special production and is one of the global leaders in this field.

    Development

The internationally steadily growing demand for our products, we meet in 2011 with the founding of a new production company, the akustik plus Behringen near Eisenach in Thuringia.

About 50 employees manufactures and sells an this location sound-absorbing products on wooden material base and composite materials in all fire protection classes. With approximately 8,000 m2 production area and 2,500 m2 additional warehouse space, we now have the largest production and storage capacities of our industry with eight different designed drilling centers, each of which has several hundred individually controllable drills.

Whatever your desires, visions and requirements are - please come to us and ask us. We look forward to offering you the perfect right solution at competitive prices.

    Sound absorption values

Both universal applicable microperforation pattern classic and finest are used since many years in different applications and installations. Out of this we generated a big variety of different acoustical measurements and tests. Below we have shown the absorbing values with the mainly used wall distances. For both perforations (classic and finest) on a cavity of 400mm between wall and panel we show in below table also the values that are valid of the usage for furniture fronts.

  • Varieties of core materials/substratesTo facilitate the further processing companies cutting, production and assembling/installing in a best way, we have increased our core panel with the non perforated bridges by two options. This new setting of non perforated areas are specially focused to the requirements in furniture manufacturing. But can also used for ceiling clouds because of its good stabilization due to the horizontal non perforated bridges.

In the manufacturing of furniture fronts, you can choose between the one-sided decorative panels for sliding doors or ceiling clouds and the decorative panels on both sides for swing doors.

  • Core board/substrate T400

The devision of the bridges on core board T400 is optimized to caliber furniture fronts with a directional measure of 400mm. From each big sheet panel it is possible to cut out 3 same door sizes.

You can manufacture one side or both sides decora-tive furniture doors.

To every front we assigned one each 40mm and 64mm non perforated bridge to guarranty the best possible flexibility to hinges, fittings and handles.

    Core board/substrate T600

This core board is designed for the optimized cutting of furniture fronts of 600mm width. From one big sheet panel you get 2 fronts with minimum waste.

The width of the vertical non perforated bridges is 64mm. This gives enough flexibility to bring in hinges, fittings and handles.

Standardization for wall cladding - a plea

Architects and builders today communicate the highest quality requirements. You can access a wide range of aesthetically sophisticated and technically advanced materials. At the same time, both time and cost pressure are increasing in the implementation of construction projects. Savings in terms of visible quality constraints are just as little accepted as relevant postponements.Although this initial situation applies in principle to all the trades involved in the construction, in particular, however, for interior construction, which decisively influences the final appearance of the object. While it is self-evident that doors, partitions, ceramic or stone coverings, luminaires and much more are used, the use of serial / industrially manufactured and widely standardized products, is quite different in the case of wall claddings.

In most of the buildings with a high standard of development, extensive planning is carried out for the classification of wall panels, which often results in hundreds of individual formats. The primary goal of these plans is a harmonious joint division, which takes up the individual characteristics of the respective rooms and depicts them.

However, in this planning approach it is often forgotten that, for example, the cost of waste material is between 20 and 40% of the total material costs - a huge savings potential, that is increasing the more expensive material is chosen. In addition, there is a much more complex, inefficient and prolon-ged production, a significantly higher expenditure on preparation, labeling, packaging, transport and assembly. Last but not least, this complexity increases the error probability at each interface of the process with subsequent delivery postponements and complaints, etc.

We believe that in most building situations, it is possible to meet even the most stringent require-ments for an aesthetic wall design with serial panels and a few fitting elements. Many major projects, especially international projects, prove this.

We advocate that all those who involved in the building to use their knowledge and skills in order to meet modern production and assembly processes in this area as well, while at the same time meeting the legitimate demands of every building owner for cost-efficient constructed and efficient buildings with the highest optical and technical standards.

The avove listed perforations and slottings are available in the surfaces shown on pages 6 and 7 directly from stock and in small quantities. Of course, we also supply ready-to-assemble parts, and panels in other perforations, surfaces and dimensions, as well as necessary fit in mounts.

    Subconstruction and installation

For easy installation of the panels in the system we have developed a special rail system made of galvanized steel. This consists the following components:

Wall rail WL 21 /48 andPanel rail PL 16 /48 (when install with tongue) orPanel rail PL 32/48 (when install with joints)

The rails are supplied in a length of 4,000 mm. Both types have perfectly matched to the mounting bars of the carrier panels elongated holes in both the horizontal and vertical alignment. Compared to other commercial-ly available rail systems favorable load distribution is achieved by the specific folding of the wall rail that fits perfect to the panel rail. This significantly reduces the pressure effecting to the screws.

The invisible fixation by hooking in, allows an easy disassembly and is visually more appealing than a direct screw. The panels can be removed quickly and easily, cables, wires and pipings are hidden behind the panel and are easily accessible. The system also allows a stress-free mounting of the elements as well as their adjustment. Basically, a gap (20 mm) is required for all installation methods by hooking, to allow the raising and lowering. This air gap or remains visible as a shadow gap.

The mounting system is load tested, the certification is available on request.

Joints versionsWhen using the system-related subconstruction we recommend two alternatives for the design of joints that give your wall cladding a very different appearance.

With the use of tongues, the mural appears homogeneous, the total impression is determined by the selected surface. If you decide for a striking joint, the panel structure is the additional design element.

The two installation possibilities are shown below, both as a structural detail and in the wall design for horizon-tal or vertical mounting.

    Subconstruction and Installation

To mount the slimline acoustic planks it can be used (as shown) on traditional fastening systems, such as battens or counter battens. The planks can either be staples-shot through the groove with or by using the mounting clips shown here, made of specially hardened steel.

The system is equally suitable for both wall and ceiling mount.

If for fire safety reasons, a nonflammable substructure if required, standard rails , for example, from the drywall interior building can be used. The mounting clips are then fixed with selfdrilling screws.

The slimline planks can be mounted either in brickwork design or without offset. By installation in brickwork design an almost waste-free mounting is possible.

We recommend, depending on the size of the wall or ceiling area, to install the narrow joints at a distance of 2 - 3 mm, to allow a proper material expension in the longitudinal direction (see also our on installation and processing instructions).

  • backing layer

    A1 core material

    micro-laminate, veneer

    Made to order

For the manufacture of certified A2 products, it is to ensure that the edges are made to the required fire classification, that means either lacquered, veneered, oiled or with real aluminum edgees.

The use of ABS or other thermoplastics edges are not allowed.

The core material is in the standard version in a slight brown tone, which harmonises with most Veneers and wood decorations.

Therefore it is possible to renounce to an edgebanding but nevertheless obtain an aesthetically high-quality edge design.

    41

    Surfaces

The surface texture of the composite panel is determined by the mineral content of the carrier plate as well as the use of thin micro-laminates, veneers or lacquer. Without a special pretreatment of the carrier plate (calibration) small unevenness can occur in the surface, e.g. in perceptible light the small blanks are not to be avoided by production technology and are not a defect.

We therefore differentiate 3 execution qualities:

AA surfaceHigh quality surface finish, with a melamine resin coated chipboard comparable

A surfaceSurface finish with small irregularities

B surfacebacking layer without surface requirements

The A2 composite panels available from stock are standard with a high-quality A-surface on the front and a B surface on the back.

The panels are marked accordingly so that the respective surface can be clearly identified. Other surface combinations are also available on request.

As a result of production processes A2 decorative surfaces, compared to other surface coated wood materials, can vary in colore tone and structure.

    Sound absorption

In DIN-compliant reverberation rooms acoustic measurements according to DIN EN ISO 354 “Measurement of sound absorption in a reverberation room” accompany our ongoing product development and optimization of independent experts are made and evaluated according to DIN EN ISO 11654.

In this brochure we show the frequency-dependent values of sound absorption coefficient αs and the αw (weighted sound absorbtion grad), NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient according to ASTM C 423) and SAA (Sound Absorption Average according to ASTM C 423) for different installation situations in tabular and graphically.

AkustographyThe perforation images of our akustography are based on a grid of 4 mm in both directions. In combination of hole diameter 1,5 mm, 2 mm and 2.5 mm is created through perception of contrast differences in the pictorial effect of perforation. With great attention to detail, our graphic designer edit each template in several implementation steps to achieve the desired effect with the special stylistic of the perforation, based on a regular grid.

The results are real unique and are both an unmistakable eye-catcher as-well-as visually unobtrusive, discreet wall - or ceiling design, which enhances any interior.

Both photographs and graphics or other artistic techniques, as well texts, symbols or logos are suitable as a template. It is equally possible to implement templates with recurrent pattern. Basically is to make sure the choice of motifs on a suitable ratio of the image area to the size of the desired acoustic panel, the same applies to the level of detail.

The digital images can in all common formats (jpg, tiff, eps) processed, the resolution should be at least 300 dpi. We recommend clarifying all kind of issues due to copyrights of the pictures you would like to use.

EmissionsAkustik+ uses only emission detected or emission free raw materials. For a variety of products, we also have emission certificates for the composite products under consideration of the perforation and slottings opende surfaces of the material. This certificates were issued by the prestigious Institute WKI.

Sustainability FSC / PEFCSustainable use of natural resources is of course for us. You as a customers can get proven origin of independently certified forests of all the products from akustik+. We have a CoC certification (Chain of Custody), both by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) - and after the PEFC Standard (Pro-gramme for the Endorement of Forest Certification Schemes) and fulfill all national and international requirements.

  • Installation and processingOur acoustically effective elements are only suitable for indoor use. Interior applications are characterized by a moisture content of the material, corresponding to a temperature of 20°C and a relative humidity of the environment that exceeds 65% only a few weeks a year. Before installing the acoustic elements is to ensure that the premises are dry, e.g. caused by screed or plastering high humidity should be kept to a minimum. By perforating or slitting the material surface the open surface area is considerably increased, so that a change of air humidity can cause a dimensional change or a distortion.

Therefore, sub-structures and expansion joints must be adapted to the source and shrinkage of materials - from a length of one meter, we recommend at least 2.5 mm of expansion. The fixation of the acoustic elements to the substructure should have a max. distance of 500 mm.Sufficient ventilation of the acoustic elements for climatic compensation must be ensured because they might be bend if there exist different climate conditions before and behind the elements.

ConditioningThe conditioning needs especially with acoustic elements special attention. Conventional wood-based materials are already hygroscopic; they absorb humidity and release it again. The product reacts to this behavior using dimensional changes, which is referred to as shrinkage or swelling. The dimensional changes must be payed attention during both installation as well as the selection and number of fittings . Acoustic elements react with climate change because of their open surfaces with significant dimensional changes between 1.5 and 2.5 mm per meter.

Basically, the storage and processing conditions of the elements possibly should correspond to the climate of the future use. Prior to the installation of acoustic elements, these should be conditioned for a few days in the later premises under the later terms of use. The recommendations for storage must be maintained on construction sites.

Processing - MachiningThe products of akustik+ are based on wood materials that have been coated with decorative surfaces - except A1 or A2 core material. They can be processed without problems such as wood materials, so that the general safety rules and processing principles are applied to wood materials.

Additional system technology or special adhesives are not required. If you have decided for large sheet material without edgebanding or without edge machining, we support you with our technical advice, starting with the processing up to the selection of construction and fittings. You can see our Installation Guide for more information about cutting and edging.

Transport and StorageThe transport and storage of acoustic elements has to be in the original packaging, or on flat and stable pallets. If the original packaging is removed, the acoustic elements are to be stored on full surface, horizontal, even, robust protection plates. Direct contact with the ground and / or exposure to rain, Moisture or sunlight should be avoided in any case. The top plate should be covered with a protective board of at least the same size. The panels must be stored in dry and closed store areas under normal climatic conditions (approximately 18 - 25°C and 50-65% relative humidity).

HandlingAfter unpacking and before processing the acoustic elements are to be checked for visible damage. While transporting and handling, special care is necessary because the elements lose stability through the perforation or slitting, compared to continuous homogeneous conventional board materials - depending on the sheet size.

Basically, all persons transporting and handling the acoustic panels, should wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety shoes and suitable work clothing. The panels must be lifted, it should be avoided that the decorative pages are shifted from each other or overlapped with each other.
