The Wolverines have been among the most impressive teams in college football this season, ranking fourth in the country in scoring offense at 52 points per game and 13th in nation in scoring defense, allowing just 13.8 points per game. While there are only a handful of teams that have played better on the defensive side of the ball than Michigan, Wisconsin is one of them. The Badgers have surrendered a Big Ten-low 11.8 points per game, seventh best in major college football. Expect this one to be a battle in the trenches. Both teams have shown a tendency to stick to the run, but both are also among the best rushing defenses in the country. In the end the question is whether Michigan can continue to dominate when faced with adversity, because Wisconsin has proven it can rise to the challenge with a pair of wins against top-10 teams already this season. If you’re looking for offensive fireworks, you’ve got it when Clemson and Louisville meet on Saturday. Two of the best players in college football will be going head-to-head and leading their respective teams onto the field at Memorial Stadium. Clemson’s Deshaun Watson, a junior quarterback who finished third in the Heisman voting last season, came into the 2016 season as the favorite to win college football’s top honor. Early in the year, however, Louisville’s sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson has taken college football by storm, scoring 25 times in just four games so far this year. As electric as Jackson has been, he has to maintain his current level of play to match Watson’s 2015 output, when the Clemson signal caller became the first player in major college football history to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 1,000. Both the Tigers and Cardinals are set up for a run at the College Football Playoff and a loss in this game won’t necessarily count them out, but it sure will make the journey longer and tougher. In this battle on the Sound in Seattle, the house will be rockin’ on Friday night. Stanford, for the third straight week, is featured here in our game of the week. The Cardinal have stepped up to the challenge so far, but they haven’t faced a team as tough as Washington. The Huskies are 4-0 and are ranked 10th in the country, while Stanford sits at 3-0, including 2-0 in the Pac-12, and is holding steady at No. 7 in the polls. Both teams are coming off scares last week, when Washington needed overtime to beat Arizona and the Cardinal pulled off a game-winning fourth quarter drive against UCLA. The Huskies are capable of being one of the best offenses in the country and currently averages 45.8 points per game. Stanford hasn’t been as explosive as in the past, but having a weapon like Christian McCaffrey means the Cardinal could score on any play. This game could come down to factors other than simply offense or defense. The Huskies are statistically one of the best teams in the country in special teams, ranking in the top-20 in all four phases of the kicking game, while Stanford rarely beats themselves, ranking in the top-five in fewest penalties and penalty yards. GAME OF THE WEEK

GAME OF THE WEEK

NATIONAL GAME OF THE WEEK

For the second straight week, the Badgers face a top-10 opponent in the state of Michigan. The Wolverines have been among the most impressive teams in college football this season, ranking fourth in the country in scoring offense at 52 points per game and 13th in nation in scoring defense, allowing just 13.8 points per game.

CFN – Wisconsin vs. Washington

CBS Sports – Wisconsin vs. UCLA

Bleacher Report – Michigan vs. Stanford

FoxSports – Michigan vs. Washington

Sports Illustrated – Michigan vs. Washington

Rose Bowletin – Nebraska vs. Washington

Weekly projections from writers of several national publications on who they expect to see in the 103rd Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual.

In both the Associated Press and Coaches’ Poll, the top seven teams remain the same. Wisconsin, however, jumped a few spots and bounced Michigan State outside the top-15 after the Badgers beat the Spartans, 30-6. It was Georgia that saw the biggest drop in the rankings as the Bulldogs fell into the 20’s in both polls after losing to Ole Miss, 45-14.

The Big Ten looks like it may have three teams vying for playoff spots as Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin are all ranked in the top eight. Nebraska and Michigan State are still hanging around for the Big Ten, giving the conference five teams in the polls. The Pac-12 held its ground with the pollsters in week four as Stanford, Washington and Utah all picked up victories.

The Associated Press Poll is made up of a panel of 61 sports writers and broadcasters from around the country.

The USA Today Poll is also known as the Coaches Poll and is selected by the Amway Board of Coaches, made up of 64 head coaches at Bowl Subdivision schools. All are members of the American Football Coaches Association.
