HYBRID TEA
ROSES The name ‘hybrid tea’ came about because they originated
from the old Tea Roses.
The old Tea Roses had a scent of freshly picked tea.
Although they produced very beautiful flowers they were not
very hardy and were very prone to a range of diseases.
Over the years and through very selective breeding the
modern Hybrid Tea has improved tremendously and is now
fully hardy and far better at fending off disease.
Hybrid Teas are very much the most popular form of rose and
come in a kaleidoscope of colours and fragrances.
For feeding, pruning etc see the Rose Care Page on Main Menu
La France
The first Hybrid Tea LA FRANCE appeared in 1867.

For the best results, plant in full sun, dead head regularly, feed and water well and you will have a wonderful
show from spring until the first frosts.

A lovely healthy tough rose with masses of blooms throughout the summer and into

A good bedding rose as the blooms last quite a while and always seems to have a
good show.
A very beautiful rose with a lovely spicy fragrance.
ALEC’S RED (Cored) Hybrid Tea Rose. 1970. 4ft
Most catalogues would describe the flowers on this rose as 'Turkey red' al-
though the colour does fade a little with age.
The large flowers and the fantastic scent have enabled this variety to stay
popular for many years.
It is a vigorous plant with dark green healthy foliage and repeats well
It comes into flower earlier in the season than most other roses so has a
good long flowering period..
Named after a well known Scottish rose grower who started breeding late in
life, and this was his first big success and is now grown all over the world.
An excellent garden rose but does not always do well in a container.
We used to stock the climbing version but it did not prove popular as it had a limited flowering pe-
riod.
An award winning rose.

A beautiful Hybrid Tea where the large blooms are a lovely luminous combination
of peaches, pinks, apricots, creams and yellows.
The huge globular blooms are borne on firm stems on a neat compact plant.
Healthy light green shiny foliage sets the blooms off to perfection.
It is repeat flowering but there is often a short break between the summer flush
and the next flush, because the bush takes a little time to recover after producing
its large exhibition quality blooms in quantity.
Quite a stunning rose plus the bonus of a great perfume.
Good disease resistance.
Quite hardy in a normal winter, but may need protection from frost in a severe winter.

A beautiful feature of this large flowered rose is the two-toned effect within
the flower.
The inside of the petals are a pretty golden bronze, while the outside surface
is deeper--- the raiser calls it 'nectarine bronze'.

They have long buds, big petals and the high centred form of the classic large
