HYBRID TEA

ROSES The name ‘hybrid tea’ came about because they originated

from the old Tea Roses.

The old Tea Roses had a scent of freshly picked tea.

Although they produced very beautiful flowers they were not

very hardy and were very prone to a range of diseases.

Over the years and through very selective breeding the

modern Hybrid Tea has improved tremendously and is now

fully hardy and far better at fending off disease.

Hybrid Teas are very much the most popular form of rose and

come in a kaleidoscope of colours and fragrances.

For feeding, pruning etc see the Rose Care Page on Main Menu

A WHITER SHADE OF PALE (Peafanfare)

Hybrid Tea Rose. 2006. 3ft-4ft.

A stunning new rose for our Hybrid Tea section.

As its name suggests, superb high centred white blooms with a hint of pale blush

pink.

The blooms are large and perfectly formed and withstand all weathers.

Repeats well and the blooms come in flushes throughout the season.

Dark semi-glossy foliage.

An easy to grow variety with a good health record.

For the best results, plant in full sun, dead head regularly, feed and water well and you will have a wonderful

show from spring until the first frosts.

Bred by Colin Pearce who is renowned for breeding good healthy roses and this stunner in no exception.

Superb fragrance.

Highly Recommended.

ADRIANA (Frydesire) Hybrid Tea Rose. 1999. 2ft-3ft.

Gorgeous shapely blooms of delicate pale cream, deepening to creamy caramel.

A lovely healthy tough rose with masses of blooms throughout the summer and into

autumn.

The spent blooms should be removed regularly to promote further blooms and

keep the bush tidy.

Good disease resistance

A good bedding rose as the blooms last quite a while and always seems to have a

good show.

A very beautiful rose with a lovely spicy fragrance.

ALEC’S RED (Cored) Hybrid Tea Rose. 1970. 4ft

Most catalogues would describe the flowers on this rose as 'Turkey red' al-

though the colour does fade a little with age.

The large flowers and the fantastic scent have enabled this variety to stay

popular for many years.

It is a vigorous plant with dark green healthy foliage and repeats well

It comes into flower earlier in the season than most other roses so has a

good long flowering period..

Named after a well known Scottish rose grower who started breeding late in

life, and this was his first big success and is now grown all over the world.

An excellent garden rose but does not always do well in a container.

We used to stock the climbing version but it did not prove popular as it had a limited flowering pe-

riod.

An award winning rose.

ALPINE SUNSET Hybrid Tea Rose. 1974. 2ft-3ft

A beautiful Hybrid Tea where the large blooms are a lovely luminous combination

of peaches, pinks, apricots, creams and yellows.

The huge globular blooms are borne on firm stems on a neat compact plant.

Healthy light green shiny foliage sets the blooms off to perfection.

It is repeat flowering but there is often a short break between the summer flush

and the next flush, because the bush takes a little time to recover after producing

its large exhibition quality blooms in quantity.

Quite a stunning rose plus the bonus of a great perfume.

Good disease resistance.

Quite hardy in a normal winter, but may need protection from frost in a severe winter.

APHRODITE (Tan00847) Hybrid Tea Rose. 2006. 2ft-3ft

As very beautiful Hybrid Tea rose which certainly lives up to its name.

Stunning blooms of pale pink and apricot blends in abundance.

The blooms are weather resistant and hold their colour and form well, right through

the summer, and look superb at any time during their flowering season.

The tough leathery mid green foliage sets the blooms off to perfection, and the whole

effect is one of great beauty.

As an added bonus the bush has excellent health, good disease resistance and a lovely

spicy fragrance.

Not very tall for a Hybrid Tea so can be grown in a container as a specimen rose or looks great as a group in

the garden.

To cap it all it makes a great cut rose for indoors as the fragrant blooms last well in water.

Highly recommended.

ARC ANGEL (Fryyorston) Hybrid Tea Rose. 1996. 3ft-4ft

Gareth Fryer of Fryer's Roses has raised a series of excellent large flowered roses in

recent years, and this is one of his best.

The blooms exhibit the classis form associated with the best of the class; elegant in

bud, full of broad petals and forming a beautiful high centre that lasts for days in

cool weather.

The colour is coppery orange in the bud, lightening to coppery yellow with veins of

pale salmon as the blooms expand.

Good repeat habit throughout the summer.

This wonderful rose should be more widely known as it is one of the best hybrid tea

roses available.

BELLE EPOQUE (Fryyaboo)

Hybrid Tea Rose. 1994. 3ft-5ft.

A beautiful feature of this large flowered rose is the two-toned effect within

the flower.

The inside of the petals are a pretty golden bronze, while the outside surface

is deeper--- the raiser calls it 'nectarine bronze'.

The colours make a delightful contrast as the flowers expand.

They have long buds, big petals and the high centred form of the classic large

flowered rose.

The flowers continue to appear through summer and autumn on vigorous

plants that are taller than the average for a hybrid tea.

A healthy rose with ample dark green foliage and a good disease resistance.

A good bedding variety and an excellent rose for cutting.

A beautiful rose with a lovely perfume which is one of our favourite hybrid tea roses.

BLUE MOON (Tannacht) Hybrid Tea Rose. 1964. 4ft

This is deservedly the most commercially successful of the 'blue' roses

being very close to the blue side of lavender.

The flowers are large and full petalled with high centres and good

symmetry of form, and they last well, finally opening cupped to show

the stamens.

Usually there is only one flower on the long stems, which makes them

excellent for cutting.

They are sweetly fragrant, and are produced through summer and

autumn.

Needs a little loving care to get the best results, but is well worth the

effort.

JUST JOEY Hybrid Tea Rose. 1972. 3ft-4ft.

This beautiful award winning rose has been popular

for over thirty years and will stay that way for many

years to come.

It has big, loose double flowers that are an orange

blend, usually in small clusters.

They are well recommended for cutting as the

blooms last well in water and are quite a show on

display in the home.

They have a good long flowering period and will

keep on flowering as long as dead heading is done

regularly.

The bush is sprawling and grows to medium height,

while the leaves are dark green and healthy.

Makes an excellent bedding rose .

It is hard to compare 'Just Joey' with other large

flowered roses, as the richness of the flower and the

looseness of the form make it so exciting and un-

usual.

Not a powerful perfume but very distinct and pleas-

ing.

Looks great as a specimen rose but even better as a group.

Dead head regularly to promote new blooms.

YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE (Frywaigo) Hybrid Tea Rose. 2007. 3ft-4ft.

This super hybrid tea is really something special and will brighten up any garden and help to put you in a good

mood.

Beautiful large flawless blooms of bright golden yellow which appear in profusion either singly or in clusters.

The blooms hold their colour well whatever the weather. It flowers quite early in the season and goes on

flowering right through the summer until the first frosts.

A nice neat bush with semi-glossy medium green foliage with good disease resistance.

A very easy to grow variety which is just as happy in a large container or the garden.

Plenty of flowers so dead head regularly for a continuous show of colour.

All this plus a nice fragrance and a great name will surely brighten anyone’s day.

Makes a cracking gift.
