Roswell North Elementary Dear Roswell North Families, I hope you all are enjoying an adventure-‐filled summer! I have been lucky enough to visit friends in Virginia and relax with family in Mexico, and my daughter and I have loved geFng to know the Roswell area beGer as well. It is so important to unplug, unwind, and really soak in the Ime we have with our children. This Ime has also given me the opportunity to reflect on my first school year as Roswell North’s principal. Coming into a school with a completely new admin team certainly had its challenges, but I so enjoyed geFng to know the children, staff, families, and community members who make RNE so special. The strength of this community is amazing and it feels wonderful to be a part of it! I feel proud of the accomplishments we made as a team this year: our PTA worked to support students through the amazing School Wide Enrichment model, the FoundaIon raised enough money to increase our science lab posiIon to four days a week for the 2016-‐17 school year, and our SGC obtained seed funds to enhance our professional development and also completed our new three year strategic plan. With the help of our PBL (Project Based Learning) coaches, our teachers created and the students completed at least two PBL units this year, and we have prepared more of these units for next year. This fall we anIcipate many posiIve changes at Roswell North. The opening of the new Vickery Creek Elementary school will alleviate some of the crowding we have experienced over the last few years. The reduced populaIon along with a new schedule I have been working on will allow for the children to visit the science lab, garden, and library more frequently while giving teachers more Ime to collaborate on assessments and planning for PBL units. We are going to work on our school to home communicaIon efforts by creaIng grade-‐level websites, offering more volunteer opportuniIes during the school day, and providing parent informaIon sessions more frequently through the year. As many of you may know, our CCRPI score came back lower than we had hoped, dropping from 88.3 in 2014 to 69.6 in 2015. Although preliminary Milestones scores from this school year indicate that our CCRPI will rise. I am confident that together, our work this year will allow our children to grow by leaps and bounds as they experience new, challenging learning opportuniIes. I look forward to conInuing our journey together this year at RNE and I remain posiIve that together we can do great things! Best, Maureen Lilly RNE Principal

We hope everyone is enjoying their summer! PTA has been busy planning exciIng and enriching opportuniIes for the 2016-‐2017 school year. We are pleased to announce that Charleston Wrap will be returning as this year’s official PTA fundraiser. Charleston Wrap is Roswell North PTA’s one and only fundraising event. Many of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward supporIng our Student Enrichment Model (SEM). SEM ‘brings the curriculum standards to life’ by providing in-‐school and off-‐site learning experiences for our students. Last year, the PTA funded 10 off-‐site experiences, 17 in-‐school experiences, and every grade level had an opportunity to visit the Teaching Museum. The PTA is also looking forward to funding and organizing RNE’s signature events including: building an award winning Roswell Youth Day parade float, playing games with fellow students at Harvest FesIval, taking a ‘trip’ around the world during InternaIonal Night, enjoying arIsts demos from various backgrounds during ArIst’s Day, and meeIng famous authors who visit RNE to read to our students. These are just a few events and acIviIes that your PTA membership helps support. In addiIon to financial support, we rely on family volunteers to organize and work the events menIoned above. Volunteering not only helps provide fun and enriching acIviIes for our children, but it’s a great way to meet RNE families and staff. We have volunteer opportuniIes to fit everyone’s schedule and interests. Please visit our website to become a member and find out how you can get involved: hGp://www.rnepta.com. We promise you will not regret it! We are looking forward to a great school year! Caryn Saker & Farrah Ryan 2016-‐2017 PTA Co-‐Presidents

The RNE FoundaIon board is excited for the opportuniIes this new school year brings! We are pleased to report that, due to your support, and that of our sponsors, the Licata Science Lab will be funded for FOUR FULL DAYS per week! This is a full extra day increase over last year (more than we’ve ever had!), which will translate into each student being able to aGend the science lab approximately once every two weeks. This is a fantasIc educaIonal opportunity for our students, and makes our science lab even more amazing. The FoundaIon, with YOUR help through the Shark Bucks event, and help from our sponsors, also brought SHARKS to the science lab, and we can’t wait to see what Ms. Howard has planned for the science lab this year! The FoundaIon also purchased supplies to augment our playground Ime for both students (tubs for each grade levels with games and sports equipment) and teachers (new benches!). Keep an eye out for new outdoor musical instruments to be installed near the playground this fall! The FoundaIon at a glance: ·∙ The Roswell North Elementary FoundaIon was formed in 2009 to enrich and support the academic experience of the students at Roswell North Elementary School ·∙ The RNE FoundaIon has raised over $430,000 to benefit RNE since the FoundaIon's incepIon. ·∙ The FoundaIon annually funds all the costs of the Licata Science Lab, one of only two elementary school-‐level science labs in North Fulton County. ·∙ The FoundaIon also funds addiIonal programs, improvements, or iniIaIves consistent with the school’s strategic plan. Past iniIaIves included improving technology, renovaIng the Outdoor Classroom, and providing scholarships for the fiph-‐grade field trip to Tybee/Jekyll 4-‐H Center. The FoundaIon will also hold our eighth Annual Fundraising Campaign in 2016-‐2017. The campaign gives families and the local Roswell community the chance to support the Licata Science Lab as well as educaIonal iniIaIves proposed by the Roswell North administraIon to help us implement our new Strategic Plan. Keep on the lookout for our fundraising informaIon in early November. The school year culminates with the FoundaIon's premier fundraising event, the Spring Soirée, a fun evening of silent and live aucIons, food and friends. Together, we can fulfill our vision of Roswell North Elementary: to help all students learn reach their full potenIal. The FoundaIon board is always looking for volunteers to help support our efforts. Please stop by the FoundaIon's table at Open House to sign up, ask quesIons, offer feedback, or just say hello. For more informaIon, please check out our website at rnefoundaIon.com or email us at [email protected]. Yours very sincerely Michelle Vincent Roswell North Elementary FoundaIon
