The Year 2013 - 2014

President: 2013 - 2014 Wayne Lucas

Greetings all, We have now been to Plymouth where a lot of the boats went to the America, Australia, New

Zealand Newfoundland. In particular the Mayflower sailed to America and captain Cook and

Captain Arthur Phillip sailed to Australia.

The Moors are developed because of the absence of any depth of soil and hence no large trees

can grow. We heard many stories at the Dartmoor pub by a guest speaker, about the wolves and

the hairy hands. Did not see any girls that looked like this.

Went past the shipyards in Plymouth and saw many nuclear submarines. They are huge.

Usually come back each 12 months can stay away for 7 years before refueling.

Next day is St. Ives, Lands End, back to Plymouth and then on to Bristol. On the way to Bristol

we went through Cheddar Gorge where the cheese was stored in caves in the side of the hills. A

very famous architect whom I had never heard of, Isamgard Kingdom Brunel, designed many

bridges and a suspension bridge over Clifton Gorge.

Bath is the town where the Romans found hot springs and developed their famous Baths.

On our way back to London we went to Windsor Castle. The Queen was not in so we did not get

a free dinner.

Did not realize how big this castle is and the number of people employed.

Next day off to Stockholm

See you at Rotary…..(when we get back) President Wayne www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrRfV8Rpt7Y Just in case you need to know about The Moors.

APOLOGIES: Would all members please ring or email another member if they are not able to attend a regular meeting of the club, if they find they have another engagement?
