WHAT’S HAPPENING!

As I sit here writing this, the weather for the coming week is to be much cooler during both the day and the night. No matter how much some of us do not look forward to winter it is coming.

Our Rotary clubs are working on completing the goals that were set. Maybe it is a new fundraiser, maybe it is hosting an exchange student for the first time, or doing their usual service goals in their communities. Are you personally involved in one of their goals; if not, why not? Being a Rotarian means more than just paying your dues and attending the weekly meetings. Rotarians are leading the way in the eradication of polio and yes, we are doing a great job. All of us have been involved in raising and/or donating money but few have hit the road running – actually going out and dispensing the vaccine. Those of us who are not able to go to India or another country can do our part in other service projects in our own community. Can you take an hour or so to pick up trash, or maybe hand out dictionaries to elementary school students, or even work in a food pantry, food bank, or senior citizen center doing your part to make life easier for those who are less fortunate?

Every month I am so impressed of what the Rotary clubs in District 7360 have done. I wish it were possible to attend each and every fundraiser and see how hard Rotarians work for the money.

There are many articles in this newsletter and I hope you will take some time to read about what Rotary clubs have done or are doing or will be doing in the near future.

SHEPHERDSTOWN ROTARY CLUB INDUCTS NEW MEMBER

The Rotary Club of Shepherdstown has inducted Riley Moore as a new member.

The induction ceremony was held at the Club's September 2 regular breakfast meeting at the Bavarian Inn.

Moore is a Vice President of the Washington DC consulting firm Podesta Group, where he serves as a consultant and adviser to several foreign governments and defense companies.

Previously, he was a member of the professional staff of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs for nearly seven years. In that capacity, he served as secretary of the US delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly during 2011 and 2012. He holds a Masters in Strategic Security Studies from the National Defense University and a Bachelor of Science in Government and International Affairs from George Mason University.

He lives in Harpers Ferry.

CHARLES TOWN CLUB NEWS

Charles Town Club Secretary, Rose Stevenson’s business, Cruise Holidays was recently selected as the “Best of the Best” Travel Agency in the WV Eastern Panhandle for the 9th consecutive year in a row.

RIDGWAY ROTARIANS READ TO FIRST GRADERS

Every month, during the school year, members of the Ridgway Rotary club read to each of the four first grade classes in Ridgway.

Linda Assalone-Holtz is the reading liaison between the teachers at St. Leo Catholic* and Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary Schools, and the Rotary Club. She, the club members, and the teachers, select books that are age appropriate and of interest related to seasonal themes from September through May.

After the Rotarian reads, the book is given to the class for their continued enjoyment.

On August 27, Roger Peterson – President of Club 5288 read to the classes at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School. This is a picture of Mrs. Heindl’s class. The book for the day was “Coconut Comes to School,” about someone who learned to be kind; a message that affirms a Rotarian value “to build good will and better friendships.”

HANCOCK ROTARY CLUB NEWS

Hancock Rotary Welcomes Community Foundation Of Washington County Hancock Rotarians welcomed staff members from the Community Foundation of Washington County to their regular Tuesday meeting on September 2, 2014. Kristy Smith, Program Director and Ally Sirbaugh, Communications Director, had the privilege of presenting checks in recognition of three Rotarians, all of whom are past recipients of the People’s Choice Award. As winners of the People’s Choice Award, annual gifts are given to organizations from the endowment funds established in each of their names. Pictured are Dan Murphy and Ally Sirbaugh.

 

Gifts were presented to the Hancock Historical Society and the Hancock Boy Scouts in honor of deceased Rotarians Robert McCusker and Dan Fleming, respectively. Additionally, a gift was presented to Christmas for Others, the beneficiary of the endowment fund established by Dan and Debbie Murphy when they were named winners of the People’s Choice Awards. Dan is also a member of Rotary and the incoming President. Rotary District Governor Meets with Hancock and Berkeley Springs Rotarians On Thursday, August 14, the Boards of the Hancock and Berkeley Springs Rotary Clubs welcomed District Governor, Jason Piatt to the Earth Dog Café and had the opportunity to discuss the goals, initiatives and upcoming events of their respective Clubs. Mr. Piatt also shared his goals and encouraged both clubs to strive toward having a hundred percent participation in supporting the Rotary Foundation. Although he said he realized it would be very difficult, he encouraged both clubs to fulfill the necessary requirements to receive the Presidential Citation.

After a delicious lunch of quiche, soup and salad, Mr. Piatt spoke to the full memberships of both Clubs. He spoke about his “Rotary Moments”, and shared the experiences

that had been the most meaningful to him as a Rotarian. Jason spoke passionately about his participation in an international project to establish a water station in India and how that experience transformed his understanding of what it means to be a Rotarian.

Following his presentation, Angie Hager, President of the Hancock Rotary thanked Mr. Piatt for his service and presented him a Hancock Rotary Banner.

LEWISBURG SUNRISE CLUB NEWS

Donates Monies From Flags For Heroes The Lewisburg Sunrise Rotary Club donated proceeds from our ‘Flags for Heroes’ fundraiser to representatives of four community groups who each received checks for $500 to benefit their programs. Those accepting the donations were: Andrea Tufo, Executive Director and Jane Amacher, Vice President of the Board of The Donald Heiter Community Center, Nea Brown, Executive Director of RiverWoods for Lewisburg/Milton Meals-on-Wheels, Heather Schnieder Education Director of Transitions, and JR. Erdley of The William Cameron Engine Company and First Responders. Each representative had the opportunity to detail the benefits their agencies provide to our local communities.

We also had the opportunity to thank Chris Baylor and Bobby Hamm, of The Country Cupboard their full support for us to use Country Cupboard's lawn to place the flags.

Lewisburg Sunrise Rotary welcomed Dennis Hummer and Dilip Shah of the Bucknell Small Business Development Center as guest speakers. Hummer detailed the purpose and scope of the program is to help new and seasoned entrepreneurs direction in starting and growing a small business. The SBDC offers classes and teams to provide planning and startup, financial and industrial analysis, identifying capital, marketing and online diversification.

Shah added that there are 800 such centers in the USA of which eighteen are in Pennsylvania. In service for 35 years, Bucknell was the first SBDC to organize in the nation. They are the only center offering engineering services managed by Shah offering assistance with idea development, stress analysis and 3D printers as well as the full business program. He stressed there is no cost for these services beyond the materials needed to produce prototypes.

The Lewisburg Sunrise Rotary Club is proud to honor Denise Eyster for receiving her first Paul Harris Fellowship award.

ROTARY CLUBS HOLD JOINT MEETING WITH DISTRICT GOVERNOR

This week the three Rotary clubs from Elk County meet with District Governor Jason Piatt. The event was hosted by the St. Marys Rotary Club and was held at the MOOSE on Erie Ave. District Governor Jason gave a great presentation on Rotary, and met with each of the clubs board of directors. COUDERSPORT ROTARY CLUB NEWS

Potter County Conservation School camp participants were the guests and speakers at the Coudersport Rotary meeting held on August 18, 2014. Rotarian John Abplanalp introduced Paul Lilja & Jackie Manno with the Potter County Conservation School. Rotary has sponsored this camp for many years. The camp began in 1980, and has continued for 34 years. Ms. Manno gave a slide show presentation conservation and the many different field involved therein. Ms. Manno stated that conservation is trying to create a sustainable environment.

FOUNDATION RAFFLE

Once again this year, we will be holding a Chair Raffle in conjunction with our Foundation Dinner on November 15 at Green Grove Gardens in Green Castle, PA. The prizes are:1. A Rotary Harvest Chair, 2. Rotary Highback Rocker, 3. Rotary Royal Office Chair.

Notices have been sent to the Assistant Governors, requesting club contacts for the sale of tickets. If none are forthcoming, tickets will be sent to the Club Presidents.

Tickets are $5 each, or 6 for $25. Each individual purchase of $25 or more will be donated in the individual’s name to The Rotary Foundation. Amounts less will not. Recently, members of the Rotary Club of Mercersburg attended a dinner at Green Grove Gardens honoring the Rotary International President Gary Huang. The dinner was hosted by the Rotary Club of Waynesboro with members of the Rotary Clubs of Greencastle and Chambersburg in attendance. In all, three hundred and thirty-one Rotary members and their guests attended the dinner.

On Tuesday, August 26 at the Nittany Lion Inn, Allen Gwinn, Natural Resource Specialist Park Ranger at Raystown Lake, assisted by Matthew Price, Executive Director of the Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau, presented an entertaining and history-filled program to members of the State College Rotary Club, marking the 40th anniversary of Pennsylvania’s largest lake.

 

Conceived in the 1940’s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers following devastating floods in the region, the high-level dam and surrounding recreation areas were finally opened to the public in 1974, two years after helping to greatly mitigate the effect of Hurricane Agnes in 1972 which occurred before the

project was completed. According to Ranger Gwinn, the dam largely earned back its $70 million plus price tag in preventing downstream damage from that one event. One of today’s greatest challenges according to Gwinn and Price, is answering the growing public demand for access to Raystown while, at the same time, preventing overcrowding of the waterways currently enjoyed by long time users of the lake and campgrounds.

Shenandoah Rotary Club is having a Pet Inoculation on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Hookies Fire Company, N. Main St., Shenandoah, PA 17976. Pets must be leashed or caged. Various shots are available.

CHARLES TOWN CLUB NEWS

Members of the Charles Town Rotary Club have been busy on a number of service projects. Club members participated in the annual Day of Caring sponsored by the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle. This year’s projects included gardening and painting at Sam Michaels Park.

In conjunction with members of the Shepherdstown Club dictionaries and thesauruses were distributed to the third and fifth graders in Jefferson County.

NEW EXCHANGE STUDENT WELCOMED

Recently, the Bedford Club welcomed exchange student Anastasia Boromiz to the United States and to Bedford. Anastasia hails from Romania in southeastern-central Europe, north of the Balkan Peninsula and on the western shore of the Black Sea. She is staying with her sponsors, Club member Dr. Jim Seitz and his wife Sarah, and attends high school at the Chestnut Ridge High School. Anastasia has quickly adapted to her stay in Bedford and is looking forward to her time here as a Rotary Exchange Student.

CLAYSBURG CLUB NEWS

Gabriela Pita was our exchange student 5 years ago, she is from Portoviejo, Ecuador. She came back for her 5-year class reunion to surprise her class-mates. Gabby stopped in to visit during our meeting. We had a potential exchange student also visiting the club. Gabby told her to definitely be an exchange student it's the best thing that can happen

in your life. She is visiting for several months and we are hoping to see her several more times and she may be helping in some club activities.

President Mike was married to fellow member Amy on August 2nd. They were married at Grace United Church of Christ and had a reception at Kinton Knob in Bedford. The day was celebrated with many friends and family. Congratulations to the new Mr. & Mrs. Boyer, we wish you all the best.

WEST SNYDER ROTARY CLUB ENTERS PARADE

The West Snyder Rotary Club made a decision this year to enter a float in a few local summer and early fall parades in order to promote its service organization. The club participated in parades held in Middleburg and Beavertown, PA, during the month of August, and in McClure, PA, during the month of September. The float was decorated in the traditional colors of Rotary, and various members of the club wearing “Join Rotary” shirts rode on the float and threw candy and pencils to the spectators. They were pleased to hear “shout outs” of acknowledgement and appreciation of Rotary from the crowds.

 

The club is grateful to those in the local communities and surrounding areas who contribute toward the achievements of the club and support its many endeavors.

LEWISBURG SUNRISE CLUB HEARS ABOUT PA PRE-K COUNTS

Lewisburg Sunrise Rotary welcomed Roma Greenly, regional Director of Pre-K Counts. Roma explained that the Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts program is based on the quality components adopted for pre-kindergarten by the State Board of Education, provides families in participating communities with a choice of quality pre-kindergarten options in a school, child care center, Head Start, or nursery school, increases access to quality pre-kindergarten to children and families throughout the commonwealth with a priority in at-risk communities and builds on the work of the Pre-K Counts Public-Private Partnership for Educational Success, a three-year project funded by leading Pennsylvania foundations and supported by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. STATE COLLEGE ROTARY CLUB PREPARES FOR “THE BATTLE OF THE MINDS” TO

BENEFIT CENTRE VOLUNTEERS IN MEDICINE

At their meeting on Tuesday September 9, members of the State College Rotary Club were treated to a “Taste of Trivia” contest emceed by Sue Forster of Centre Volunteers in Medicine and Roy Adams, Rotary Battle of the Minds Committee Chair to promote the upcoming 7th Annual “Battle of the Minds” Dinner and Trivial Pursuit Contest at the Penn Stater on October 22.

Before the mini-contest for the club members began, Sue Forster, CVIM Development Coordinator, announced the critical need for continued support of the free medical, dental and pharmaceutical services provided by CVIM. In spite of the Affordable Care Act, Forster reported that the charity currently has a waiting list of 271 low-income uninsured Centre

Countians seeking medical care and a list of 2,600 more waiting for dental care. In spite of generous grants, public support and a large team of dedicated volunteers, doctors, dentists and pharmacists, the need continues to be great. That’s why State College Rotary Club and CVIM have teamed up each year to put on the dinner event which now raises almost $100,000 annually, a not so trivial part of the group’s annual budget.

SELINSGROVE CLUB PROVIDES MOVIE NIGHT TO THE COMMUNITY

The Selinsgrove Rotary Club (in partnership with the Selinsgrove Library and the Rudy Gelnett Foundation) has concluded yet another summer of providing FREE family movie nights to the community at large. This program, led by President-Elect Michael Piecuch, provides wholesome family fun with children-oriented movies in an outdoor setting at The Rotary Field (a baseball field centered in town)

Additionally, the club provides FREE popcorn to all attendees - a very popular addition to the entertainment. The largest crowd of about 100+ enjoyed the movie "FROZEN".

 

SELINSGROVE CLUB HOLD 22ND ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC

The Selinsgrove Rotary Club held their 22nd annual golf classic to benefit the Selinsgrove Area Community Foundation. To date this annual event has raised over $250,000 that the foundation has used to support scholarships for graduating high school students and to aid a variety of organizations that serve Selinsgrove and the surrounding area. This year’s tournament raised $22,000.

JOHNSONBURG CLUB NEWS

ELK COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION VISITED WITH JOHNSONBURG ROTARY

Paula Fritz Eddy, Executive Director of the Elk County Community Foundation gave Rotarians an update on the Foundation. The 10 years the foundation has been in operation has seen its assets increase to almost 9 million dollars and scholarship awards have increased from 48

thousand dollars in 2004 to almost 160 thousand in 2014. In 2004 $21,600 in scholarships was matched through the PHEAA/PATH partnership. In 2013, $54,600 was matched; in 2004 there were 38 named funds and in 2014 there are 114 named funds.

In addition Women Who Care, started by a group of area women in 2009, has contributed $60,200 back to the community. Members of Women Who Care donate a minimum of $100 each year, then meet to review grant requests and vote which to fund. INBOUND AND OUTBOUND EXCHANGE STUDENTS VISITED WITH JOHNSONBURG ROTARIANS

Johnsonburg Rotarians had the opportunity to meet their inbound exchange student, Agathe Dijoud Monday. Agathe arrived in Johnsonburg on Saturday and will be hosted by Mary Ann Asti. Joey will be leaving for France on Wednesday.

Rotarians extended best wishes for a great year to both students. They look forward to working with Agathe during the coming year. ROTARY MADE DONATION TO THE JOHNSONBURG PUBLIC LIBRARY

In July, Johnsonburg Rotarians raised $1,200.00 at a Tag Day to benefit the Johnsonburg Public Library. The money is used by the library to enhance their offerings to the public. With state funding to libraries being cut in past years, most libraries are walking the fine line of operating on minimal funding, while trying to maintain the same level of service and trying to offer new programs that become available. Rotarians wish to express their gratitude to those who donated to this fundraiser.

 

MADE DONATION TO ROTARY’S EAST END PLAYGROUND FUND

Patty Pritt recently organized the 2nd Annual East End Playground Block Party. Those attending were asked to make a donation to the playground fund. She is shown presenting the check to Club President Diane Murphy and playground committee chairman Bill Chiesa.

The donations make it possible for Rotarians to maintain and improve the playground for the children in the area.

ASHLAND CLUB NEWS

September 20th Schuylkill Keep It Pretty (SKP) and the Ashland Rotary with the help of some others will clean up parks and other areas around the Ashland area.

September 27th the Ashland Area Rotary will hold the Omega Health Screening to all area residents who wish to participate.

GRANTSVILLE CLUB NEWS

Exciting things are happening in Garrett County as we head toward fall.

On October 3-4, The Grantsville Rotary Club will be making their famous funnel cakes and apple fritters at the Folk Festival, Springs, PA. Please stop by and refresh yourself at our booth before viewing the wide array of handicrafts with over 100 artisans demonstrating their skills.

A Halloween Carnival and Costume Parade will be presented by the Rotary Club of Grantsville and Cub Scout Pack 460/Boy Scout Troop 460 on Saturday October 25, 2014 from 4-7 pm at Casselman Valley Sportsman's Club 8751 National Pike, Grantsville, MD. A Haunted Hay Ride, Silent Auction, Children’s Carnival Games and Chinese Auction will be part of the festive evening. Prizes will be awarded for best costume in each age category!!!! Local businesses are helping sponsor the games. The proceeds from this event will fund the worthy causes of local Rotary beneficiaries as well as help the Cub Scouts and the Boys Scouts who do their best for our community.

GALETON CLUB NEWS

Programs this month include a history of Galeton by Henry Lush, Club Historian, a program on the aftermath and devastation resulting from the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens, reports on the annual Woodsmen's Show, a program on club projects for the year, and a report on the condition of the Route 6 sign that was erected by the club.

The Route 6 sign is rapidly deteriorating. It was erected 15 years ago. Paint and structural flaws are being checked out as well as quotes on repair or replacement. A nominating committee was selected as well as a Paul Harris committee since the club has accumulated many points as well as a substantial balance from weekly donations. Plans also began on the annual multi-club dinner dance in February. This year the Galeton Club hosts the event which raises funds for District Projects. A non-member project has netted 3 new prospects for membership.

COUDERSPORT CLUB HEARS ABOUT “VOLUNTEERS THAT CARE”

Our guest speakers for the September 8, 2014 meeting were Linda Bretz, Chairperson and Kathy Kinard, Co-Chairperson of a non-profit organization, “Volunteers That Care”.

“Volunteers That Care” is helping cancer patients one day at a time. As a non-profit organization, it provides support to people who are battling cancer and live in or are being treated in Potter County. They can receive a one-time gas card to help with travel expenses to cancer treatments. They also supply wigs and head coverings to those in need. “Volunteers That Care” relies solely on donations, fundraisers and most importantly, volunteers. With donations and fundraisers, they were able to give a gas card and/or a wig to 106 cancer patients in 2013.

 

They document new patients by first having them register with the American Cancer Society. After that, if anyone needs help with travel expenses to receive their treatments, “Volunteers That Care” provides each patient with a $100.00 gas card. The organization then keeps track of all information and connects each individual with any additional information or help they request, which includes a wig or a head covering. It is important to support them in any way possible.

MILTON ROTARY CLUB SPONSORS ANNUAL PAGEANT

Emily Mollica was crowned 2014 Milton Harvest Festival Princess in the Festival's 38th annual pageant Saturday night September 13.

Sponsored by the Milton Rotary Club, Emily was judged on a memorized two-minute speech, her stage presence wearing both casual and formal attire, and an extemporaneous response to a "final question."

The speech focused on Emily's personal and school activities, the Milton Rotary Club as well as Rotary International, and the festival theme, "Harvesting Trust in Our Community." Emblematic of her address, she carried the dictionary Milton Rotarians gave her when she was in third grade. She cited the definition of trust in the dictionary and noted the importance of community organizations like Rotary upon whom community members can rely.

Emily won a scholarship, jewelry, and trophy for her efforts. She will reign for a year and represent Milton in other activities around the region.

EMPORIUM 70TH ANNUAL PICNIC FUNDRAISER

Over 300 people enjoyed a day of great food, fun and fellowship August 20th at Emporium Rotary’s 70th annual picnic fundraiser. The picnic is the club’s largest fundraiser each year with proceeds funding Emporium Rotary’s annual Academic & Technical Scholarship Funds which benefit students of Cameron County High School, along with community projects.

Special guest, District Governor Jason Piatt, also attended and helped with the picnic. A special thank you to Rotarian Kelly Wike and her husband Jeff, along with Rotarian Rick Custer, for all their help with the picnic this year.

POTTSVILLE ROTARY EVENTS On October 4, the Club will hold our bi-annual “Purse-onalities” sale on gently used purses. The club partners with our County newspaper, The Republican – Herald, to coordinate this event. Used purses are donated by people throughout the county, cleaned up and aggressively priced for sale, and displayed in a vacant storefront at the Fairlane Village Mall. It’s a one-day sale that has turned in to quite an event in the county. We invite and encourage curious Rotarians from the district to visit us for this event on October 4. We are also in the planning stages for our 100th Anniversary, to be celebrated April 17, 2015 at Mountain Valley Golf Course in Barnesville, PA. It will be a dinner-dance with great food and entertainment. Mountain Valley is also offering overnight stay packages and discount golf on Saturday, April 18. In addition to the dinner, the Club is currently considering fundraiser plans and Anniversary projects for 2015.

 

WASHINGTON COUNTY ROTARY DICTIONARY KICK OFF HELD WEDNESDAY,

SEPTEMBER 24TH

The Hagerstown Rotary Club, along with the other Washington County Rotary Clubs, annually participates in "The Dictionary Project." Each year, the Washington County Rotary Clubs distribute dictionaries to every 3rd grader in Washington County in both public and private schools. This year the Rotary Clubs will be presenting 2,200 dictionaries to students in Washington County, Maryland.

The goal of this program is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary. The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come. Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn, so we encourage our sponsors to give dictionaries each year to children in the third grade.

In this way we hope to help them to improve their communication skills and make the most of their education. Many sponsors are also taking the Dictionary Project beyond the United States, to help improve literacy worldwide.

The Washington County Rotary Clubs depend on the support from various businesses to ensure a successful Dictionary Kick-off; Hub Labels, Food Resources and Hagerstown Community College.

RINGTOWN CLUB HOLDS SUCCESSFUL PIG ROAST

On August 24th, the Ringtown Rotary 35th Annual Pig Roast was held. The meal included pork, baked potato, corn on the cob, string beans, fresh tomatoes, roll, dessert and beverage.

SIX YEARS, OVER 30,000 POUNDS OF FOOD

In the sixth year of their Farmers to Food Bank program, the State College Downtown Club has provided over 30,000 lbs of food to the State College Food Bank. From May through November the club collects unsold food donated by vendors at the State College Friday Farmer’s Market. The Downtown Rotary club has also provided annual financial support to the Food Bank and several club members including program founder (and club treasurer) Roger Fetter, club president Kat Snowe, and club member Meg Moose also serve the Food Bank as volunteers and/or on their board.

SHAMOKIN CLUB NEWS

Shamokin Rotary's year is off to a busy start and we have a year filled with lots of great programs and community projects.

In July, a joint program with Shamokin Kiwanis and the Mount Carmel Rotary as our guests for a special program with Dr. Edgar Kenton III Director of Neurology, Co-Director of Neurosciences and Director of Stroke programs for the Geisinger Health System. He gave a very informative talk on stroke prevention and the importance of prompt medical attention for stroke victims. Time is Brain.

August had Jerry Splitt, Program Manager for Life Flight talking about his fleet of air ambulances and the time and dedication that he and his staff have put into the Life Flight program, and the results show in the lives saved every day by the program. While Jerry was here, he presented our outgoing exchange student "Shamokin Joe" Joey Deptula and our incoming exchange student Carl Claussen from Germany with Life Flight t-shirts.

Joey is in the Wolfsburg area of Germany, and Carl is from North of Hamburg, in Bergteheide, Germany. Carl is presently a sophomore at Shamokin Area Junior Senior High School and plays on the Soccer team. His current hosts are Joey Deptula's family. Carl has a very magnetic personality and is a very enthusiastic person. He is going to be a great addition to our school, club, and community this year.

At a recent meeting, members were presented with pins for bringing new members into the club. Blue level pins were presented to Sherry Shebelsky and Jack Richford for sponsoring Roger Weikel and Jeff Fromm respectively. Mike Buriak received a bronze level pin as well for new members Dave and Mary Heim.

We also have several upcoming events in the works, to name a few: Our annual Santa Sleigh which helps bring Santa and the Christmas spirit directly to the local communities for 2 weeks in December for no costs to the families and is supported solely by donations. Also the Turkey Trot, a 5K run/walk held Thanksgiving morning. It's a great family event and a lot of fun. We also working on a joint Polio awareness event with our Interact club and the Mount Carmel Rotary and Interact clubs.

Take a beautiful Saturday with a blue and white sky, mix with temperatures in the 70’s with a light breeze, add in an upcoming Penn State Football game, throw in Rotarians from the Centre County Clubs and others from surrounding areas, sprinkle in the Penn State Rotaract club and other guests and don’t forget food and beverages – BLEND GENTLELY and you have a CELEBRATION OF ROTARY TAILGATE Event!

It was a fun event that folks are hoping will be repeated in the future. The mix of Rotarians, spouses, children and other guests allowed for exchanging ideas and allowing folks in the Tailgating community to understand that Rotarians work together and provide service in a fun way. I want to personally thank the committee for the idea, planning, organizing and execution of this great event: Jeane Singer (SC); Bonnie Abrams (SC); Scott Rawson (SCSR); Mary Jane Fisher (BSRC); April Martell (PG); Stephanie Fost (SCDT) and Terry Shoemaker (SCDT). These folks met regularly to brainstorm and plan the event. It was a success because of their visions! You are great people and our community is fortunate to have you as Rotarians.
