For drivers who seek to add personality and flair to their driving experience, ri-D safely integrates cell phone functions and apps into the main car interface so that they can personalize any car with their own maps, music, and vehicle settings using their smartphone. Ultimately, ri-D reduces the danger of using a cell phone while driving and increases ease and satisfaction of using rental cars through personalization.

Brilliant Ideas

Through the projection on the windshield, the user can access a dashboard of voice controlled options including text, music, maps, and car environment settings.

● Maps: GPS technology projects onto the windshield in order to provide safer directions. The user's suggested destinations come integrated in the GPS from the user's phone contact list.

● Phone: Popular functions are voice controlled in order to provide for a safer driving experience. The interface will use bluetooth technology in order to sync calls and texts with the car's sound system, so the experience is hands-free.

● Music: Music on the user's phone music application is automatically synced to the car's audio system using bluetooth technology. Voice control is used to select among the user's music in order to make choosing music safer and easier.

● Car Settings: Seat position, temperature, and radio presets are recorded on the user's phone, so each time the driver enters the car, his/her settings are automatically configured.

● Car Information: No more time spent trying to figure out what side the gas tank is on and where the release is. Easily find out about the layout of the car with a few simple voice commands.

● Platform: Because the system is so flexible, it can easily act as a platform for 3rd party companies to create apps that integrate into the driving experience.

This is what the home screen of ri-D looks like. While driving, small icons for phone, maps, and her favorite applications will appear on her left. To expand one of the apps, Andrea can say "Open Spotify" to start playing music.

Andrea decides to call her roommate from the car interface instead to find out what he wants her to pick up. She says "call Brian" and the interface dials for her. She then uses the voice recognition software to open her phone's note application and asks the car interface to record Brian's list in a note on her phone.
