#NPLNSWCLUB WELCOME
It is a big welcome back to all Shark supporters at Seymour Shaw today. The new look Sharks
are hungry for a win against a Sydney team containing some talent that has come through the Sharks Academy system.
The Sharks have a “new look team” put together by coach Grant Lee that is bound to entertain the Shire faithful. The Sharks have former players returning to Seymour Shaw after stints in the A-league in Jacob Tratt, Nick Olsen and Hayden Morton. Lachlan Hughes & Leo Malfara, bringing great energy to the home team. The
Sharks lost 1-0 in a close game with Rockdale Suns with Lachlan Everett having a Man of the Match performance.
Our 20’s who are defending champions started the year with a 1-1 draw against a strong Sun’s outfit.
Our half time entertainment comes courtesy of our 9’s SDS and under 12 SAP.
Let’s get behind our senior teams and cheer them on to victory!

NPLNSW.COM.AU 1ST GRADE MATCH PREVIEW
1ST GRADE - NPL NSW MEN’S
Sutherland Sharks will be determined to claim their first win of the season when they
host Sydney FC on Saturday.
Grant Lee’s side suffered defeat in a physical clash with local rivals Rockdale City Suns in Round 1 but will be fired up to give their home fans plenty to cheer about.
New signing and former Hyundai A-League defender Jacob Tratt proved to be an inspired signing for the Sutherland club and will once again lead the defence against the young stars of Sydney FC.
Robbie Stanton’s Young Sky Blues had a fast start to the season with a 3-1 win against Hakoah Sydney City East thanks to a hat trick from former Sharks star Jeremy Cox.
While Cox’s incredible performance took much of the limelight, a composed display from Sam McIllhatton was key to the victory for Sydney.
If the pair click again in round two it could be another win on the cards for Sydney FC.

#NPLNSWMATCH REVIEWSRockdale City Suns 1 – Sutherland Sharks 0 at Ilinden Sports Centre
Rockdale has kick started their National Premier Leagues NSW Mens 2018 season in style edging Sutherland Sharks 1-0 at Ilinden Sports Centre.
It took something special to settle the fiercely contested opening round match and it was Rockdale’s Alex Canak who delivered a moment of magic when he lobbed the keeper from 30 yards out.
Canak’s goal had been on the cards as the home side amassed a number of opportunities they spurned with alarming regularity.
Sutherland were always in the game but came away battered and bruised but defiant in the aftermath of the 90 minutes.
The Sharks created a few chances but can have no complaints of the result at the final whistle.
Sydney FC 3 – Hakoah Sydney City East 1 at Lambert Park
Jeremy Cox led Sydney FC to an impressive 3-1 win over Hakoah Sydney City East on the opening day of the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s 2018 season.
Cox was in incredible form for the Sky blues nabbing a hattrick to secure three points for his side on Saturday afternoon at Lambert Park.
Cox put the hosts in the lead early in the first half before Mitchell Stamatellis brought Hakoah Sydney City East level just after the half hour.
However, it was always going to be Sydney FC’s night as they roared into life after the break as Cox scored a quick second to put his side ahead, and completed his hattrick with half an hour to spare.

#NPLNSWFEATURE STORYSHARKS HUNGRY FOR BETTER SUCCESS IN 2018
Sutherland Sharks coach Grant Lee says the Sharks are poised to surge up the NPL NSW Men’s competition ladder in 2018 after assembling an exciting blend of traditional Shire youth talent with an array of seasoned NPL NSW veterans.
The Sharks finished tenth in a disappointing 2017 campaign and haven’t qualified for the finals series since 2013 but Lee hopes this blend of youth and experience will bring Sutherland back into the championship mix.
“We’re feeling pretty good about this season to be honest, we’ve got a lot of boys back who are ex-Sutho players.
“Sutherland has always produced good footballers – a lot of good players come through this system, it’s just a matter of making it viable and building interest so that these boys can come back and play for the club – and that’s happened this year, which is nice.”
The Sharks offered flashes of brilliance in 2017 including a memorable 2-1 victory over would-be champions Manly United in round twelve but were unable to sustain the consistency required to truly mount a top-six challenge.
Lee was appointed head coach in May of last season following the departure of Carlos Villazon and says pre-season has been spent erasing the reoccurring defensive and concentration flaws that have plagued the Sharks in recent seasons.
“We were probably working too hard last season”, he said.
“There was a lot of intensity and a lot of good things happening for 70-80 minutes but that last 15 minutes almost seemed as if we were red lining for too long and we could never sustain the full 90.
“We now have a better quality of player that has played at a higher level and are a bit stronger both technically and physically.”
Only Parramatta FC finished with a worse defensive record than Sutherland last campaign and Lee has recruited former Hyundai A-League star Jacob Tratt and Hayden Morton to remedy these issues at the back, while Ryan Norval will replace retiring Sharks legend Nathan Denham between the sticks.
The Sharks have boasted their options in the final third substantially thanks to the captures of former Sydney United 58 players Nick Olsen and Adrian Vranic will also call Seymour Shaw home after signing on from the Northern Beaches based side.
Sutherland won the Premiership and Championship double in the U20’s last season and while this has resulted in the departure of several young prospects, including attacking starlet Matias Da Silva Santos, Lee says the likes of Lachlan Everett and Jake Borromeo will be pushing for first team positions.
They’ll have to compete with the likes of Juan Zapata, Lachlan Hughes and Leo Malfara who have all bolstered the depth of the Sharks squad.

NPLNSW.COM.AU U20’S MATCH PREVIEW
Two championship hopefuls clash in round two’s curtain raising fixture at Seymour Shaw
this Saturday where defending champions Sutherland Sharks host Sydney FC.
The pair were involved in a catalogue of high-quality affairs in 2017 and despite early season rustiness and injury clouds hanging over Sutherland it is likely to be another enthralling encounter when they meet again this weekend.
Nick Dimovski’s side began their title defence with a point away at Rockdale with new recruit James Temelkovski securing a late equalizer and were undefeated against the Sky Blues during their three meetings last campaign.
Opponents Sydney FC are also flaunting a slightly revamped frontline which recent arrival Hamish Lamberton spearheaded to great effect during last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Hakoah Sydney City East.
The former Sydney United 58 man grabbed a brace against Hakoah to gift new coach Giancarlo Italiano his first victory as Sky Blues boss and they’ll be hoping to make it two in a row to deal an early setback to Sutherland’s title defence.
