#NPLNSWCLUB WELCOMEIt is with great anticipation that we welcome all

our Sutherland supporters and the officials, players and supporters of the APIA club for what should be an exciting contest. The Tigers are sitting on the top of the competition ladder and the Sharks are not far behind. The Sharks come into the game following two wins in a week, having defeated the North Shore Mariners in the FFA cup 3-1 and then Bonnyrigg White Eagles away from home 3-0. The wins came at a price however with Nick Olsen breaking his collarbone and Leo Malfara suffering a season ending knee injury. They join first team regulars Hughes, Zapata and Borromeo on the long term injury list.

The reaction of our senior players has been a real positive as they guide some of our younger players through their introduction into 1st grade football. Goal keeper Ryan Norval is in stellar form and needs to be as Nick Loe is also displaying outstanding performances “between

the sticks.” Striker Adrian Vranic “bagged a hatrick” last week to continue his run of goals.

Our under 20’s have maintained their impressive run that will be surely tested over the coming weeks. Noah Chia bagged a late goal last week to record a 1-0 victory. Our under 18’s continue to play good football but just couldn’t find the back of the net in their game against the White Eagles.

We are lucky to have such a strong junior association in the Shire and we welcome the under 9’s from Georges River, Sylvania, Kirrawee and Bundeena. They will provide some entertainment in the breaks so we should cheer them on. The Kirrawee club still has a team in the FFA cup which is going into round 5. This is an outstanding effort for district club team.

As always fingers crossed for more shark victories tonight!!!

NPLNSW.COM.AU 1ST GRADE MATCH PREVIEW

1ST GRADE - NPL NSW MEN’S

Sutherland Sharks will be looking for back to back wins when they host league leaders

APIA Leichhardt Tigers at Seymour Shaw on Saturday Night.

The clash is set to be the biggest test of the season so far for the Grant Lee coached Sharks who have come on in leaps and bounds since their struggles of the 2017 season.

A comprehensive 3-0 victory against Bonnyrigg White Eagles last week was the perfect platform for Sutherland as they demonstrated their talents with a strong performance at both ends of the park.

Adrian Vranic will be hoping to continue his incredible run of form which included a hat trick in last week’s win.

Vranic is a talented young striker who has arrived in the Shire this season. His pace and eye for goal gives the Sharks a true attacking threat in the front third.

They will need to be at their best if they are going to take three points from APIA Leichhardt who have lost only once this season.

The re-emergence of Japanese attacking dynamo Tasuku Sekiya has provided an added outlet for Billy McColl’s side to push forward.

Sekiya has had an eye for goal in recent weeks and is a good bet to continue his scoring run.

APIA has lacked a clinical edge at times this season but have not struggled creating chances on goal.

If Sutherland can remain disciplined in defence and take advantage of their opportunities on the counter, they could very well cause an upset.

#NPLNSWMATCH REVIEWSBonnyrigg White Eagles 0-1 Sutherland Sharks, 5.00pm at Bonnyrigg Sports Club

Sutherland Sharks extended its lead of the competition to five points following gritty 1-0 win over Bonnyrigg White Eagles at Bonnyrigg Sports Club on Saturday afternoon

Noah Chia was the match winner for the reigning champions who battled their way to a fifth consecutive victory.

Nick Dimovski’s side now have a five point buffer over second-placed Sydney FC and will look to maintain its grip on the competition when they host APIA Leichhardt Tigers in next Saturday’s early afternoon kick off at Seymour Shaw.

The result leaves Bonnyrigg without a win in its last five matches with their opening day victory over Sydney Olympic the only victory Hamish Brown’s side have registered during the season’s opening.

However the last two performances from the White Eagles – a 5-5 draw with competition heavyweights Sydney FC, and a narrow loss to the Sharks on Saturday afternoon – indicates the standard of performances are progressing impressively.

Bonnyrigg can break their winless run next Sunday afternoon against Wollongong Wolves at WIN Stadium.

APIA Leichhardt Tigers 2-3 Sydney FC, 1.30pm at Lambert Park

Sydney FC defeated APIA Leichhardt Tigers 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Lambert Park to keep up the pressure on competition leader Sutherland Sharks.

The Sky Blues had sensationally dropped points last weekend in a 5-5 draw with Bonnyrigg White Eagles but were too good for APIA Leichhardt with Hamish Lamberton’s brace and Jordan Swibel’s strike moving Sydney FC into third place.

The double for Lamberton is his seventh and eighth goals of the campaign – the former Sydney United 58 frontman now takes outright lead in the race for the golden boot.

APIA Leichhardt were on the scoresheet through Gino Cerasoli and Matthew Taverniti but were unable to avoid their second defeat of the season.

Franco Consentino’s side face Manly United in a catch up fixture on Wednesday night before facing competition frontrunners Sutherland Sharks next Saturday afternoon.

Sydney FC host Manly United next Saturday night at Lambert Park.

NPLNSW.COM.AU U20’S MATCH PREVIEWReigning champions Sutherland Sharks have

begun their title defence in intimidating fashion and will be looking to underline their status as premiership favourites when they host APIA Leichhardt Tigers at Seymour Shaw this Saturday.

Nick Dimovski’s side claimed their fifth win on the trot following a 1-0 victory over Bonnyrigg White Eagles in round six in a result that extended their advantage at the summit to four points.

The Sharks certainly haven’t fallen for a complacent start following their 2017 title win and it would be another significant step towards maintaining their grip on this season’s competition if they could defeat last year’s Grand Final opponent’s APIA on Saturday.

APIA Leichhardt have had disrupted start to the season and currently lies in eleventh position but with a midweek fixture against Manly United to come prior to their date with Sutherland the Tigers need to start accumulating points to build their season.

It will be a tough ask for Franco Consentino’s side but if the Tigers can take their chances and remain resolute at the back they’ll fancy inflicting a first setback and revenge for last season’s Grand Final on Sutherland.
