Many dogs suffer from itchy skin caused by a variety of factors. In fact, dogs have more sensitive skin than humans and are often exposed to a variety of irritants in their environment. Regular washing and grooming will help alleviate the itch.

Puppies jump up to reach and greet their mothers. Later, they may jump up when greeting people. Dogs may also jump up to exert dominance.

A jumping dog can be annoying and even dangerous. There are many methods to stop a dog’s jumping, but not all will be successful.

Lifting a knee, grabbing the paws, or pushing the dog away might work for some, but for most dogs this sends the wrong message. Jumping up is often attention-seeking behavior, so any acknowledgment of your dog’s actions provides a reward!

The best method: simply turn away and ignore your dog. Don’t make eye contact or speak or touch your dog. Just go about doing what you were doing. When he relaxes and remains still, calmly reward him. It won’t take long before your dog gets the message.

Getting jumping under control

Many dog toys come with a hole in the center which are great for stuffing with your pets favorite treats – these toys can provide hours of entertainment for your dog.

As you create recipes, be sensitive to your dog’s tummy as you experiment.

Banana Rama – 1 fresh banana * 2 tbs wheat germ * 1tbs plain yogurt.

In a bowl, mash up banana. Then, add wheat germ and yogurt. Mash all ingredients together and use a spoon to insert into your dog’s favorite toy. Freeze for 4 hours.

Philly Steak – Steak scraps * 1 ounce cream cheese

Mix steak scraps and cream cheese together and use a spoon to insert into your dog’s favorite toy.

Peanut Butter or Dog Treats – simply spoon peanut butter into your dog’s favorite toy or stuff with his favorite treats.

The best way to prevent excessive barking is to try to remove any potential sources of the behavior. You also want to avoid inadvertently encouraging the barking. So give your dog better things to do besides barking.

Make sure your dog gets plenty of exercise so there is not as much pent-up •energy to burn by barking.

Try to get your dog’s attention with a clap or whistle. • Once your dog is quiet, redirect his or her attention to something productive and rewarding - like a toy or treat.

After getting your dog’s attention, practice basic commands, like sit and down• in order to shift their focus.

DO NOT let your dog bark constantly outside, regardless of the reason. You can •hardly train your dog to stop barking by yelling at him or her across the yard. Plus, it is one of the fastest ways to turn neighbors into enemies and send an invitation to your local police.

Train your dog to Speak and Be Quite. •
