Exam dates
Write a “countdown” for how many days you have until that exam.
Prioritise what you feel you need to spend more time on.
e.g. I am not sure about “xxxx” topic in science, so I will make sure this is high on my list of priorities.
Revision Timetable
BENEFITS
Helps you cover what you need to in the time you have.
It allows you to prioritise subjects that you need more revision in.
It motivates you to use your time effectively.
Put in the revision areas you have prioritised first
Put your revision sessions into short 20 minute chunks with rest breaks
Make sure you make time for other activities also
Reward yourself for completing your revision sessions
Review your timetable if it isn't working
Revision Techniques
Topic Checklist
Chunk your revision into topics and spend one session on one topic.
TOPIC Revised?
Genetic diagrams Y

Revision techniques
Concept Map
Some subjects have clear cut sections, but others can seem more complicated with topics connecting
in different ways.
Revision Techniques Note Making Make notes of the important points of each topic. Make the notes shorter each time you revise that particular area. Test yourself to see what you have learnt.
Revision Techniques Pictures Use pictures with key points to make the topic come to life. Put these pictures up where you will see them every day.
Revision Techniques
Quizzes
Get someone else to task you on your knowledge.
Give them your revision notes/books etc.
Revision Techniques
Flashcards
Once you have condensed your notes, you may find flashcards work well for you as a way of revising key terms and concepts.
Memory Techniques
Picture Stories
Think of a strong visual image to associate with each word and link them together into an unlikely/silly story.
The great plague struck London in 1665, followed by the fire of London in 1666, starting in the shop of the baker to King Charles II in pudding lane.
Imagine a large rat (the plague) getting set on fire (fire after plague) in an over (baker’s shop). The flames curl up to make the numbers 1666 and the rat is then put into a pudding eaten by two King Charles Spaniels
Memory Techniques
Quizzes
When you have revised a topic, have a go at some old exam questions. Set a time limit and work under exam conditions.
Revision Tips
Make yourself start however much you don’t want to, that’s the hardest bit
Build in short breaks
Drink lots of water
Eat “brain food” – avoid sugar and have lots of healthy snacks to eat little and often
Don’t leave the difficult bits to the end
Take breaks when you feel frustrated, angry and overwhelmed
Give yourself little rewards
