Still confused about static and dynamic IP addresses? Dynamic IP means that your internet service address is not a permanent assigned (Static IP), with a dynamic IP on each internet session you may be allocated a different IP address, this works fine as you are connecting to static IP addresses (Google etc) but when you are attempting to connect to your DVR you must know the correct IP of your Internet service at the DVR site. The DDNS server allows your DVR to report its current IP address every 20 minutes to your account on the DDNS web site, when connecting to your DVR your viewer software checks with the DDNS server for the correct IP address of your DVR, it then connects you to the DVR. If you have a Static IP address for your Internet service you just enter this in the viewer address box and connect directly to your DVR. Static IP addresses are available on most business internet tariffs eg: Pipex, Bulldog etc Most cable internet services eg: Virgin media seem to remain static even though strictly speaking they are Dynamic, (my Virgin internet IP Number has not changed in 5 years).
