Matters Arising: The 2020 Memorial Run was enjoyed by all who took part, travel-

ling to country “not usually seen”. Thanks was passed on to Gaynor & Joe for organ-

ising the run. Apparently one car got locked in the forest!

Plans for the 2020 Nove Rove are under way. Destination is Riverton. Accommo-

dation options are being looked at with possible visits to the Flax Mill and the Muse-

um. Full details will be in next month’s newsletter.

Correspondence: Newsletters received from Wellington and Canterbury. List of

Rover cars & parts for sale & wanted. Will be included in the newsletter.

Email from Mel Tapp mentioning that he and John Rutherford enjoyed the Memorial

Run and catching up with Club Members they hadn’t seen for a while.

Finance: Ray tabled the August 2020 bank statement.

Annual subscriptions have been announced in the newsletter and by email. Thank

you to those members who have already paid. 14 members paid their subs in August.

Dealers” that has them buying, working on and selling a 1973 P5B Coupe. Work

completed was power steering box rebuild, steering lock stops installed, new tubular

stainless-steel exhaust manifolds, new custom-made carpets and repair to the front

passenger seat. Ray will make it available for members to watch.

Volunteers are being called for to organise the 2021 Memorial Run. Ideas, help and

Alastair McInnes.

It is with much sadness that a long time Rover Car Club of Otago member

and past Secretary/Treasurer Alastair McInnes passed away on Monday

21st September in Dunedin.

Alastair was interested and actively involved in mechanicals all his life

from bicycles and Austin 7’s through to modern day Commodores and

Mustang automobiles.

Owning several Rover cars over his lifetime resulted in his membership of

the Rover Car Club of Otago many, many years ago.

During the 1980’s through to the mid 2000’s, Alastair was our Secretary /

Treasurer ensuring our administration and finances were kept in order

which the club membership appreciated.

His quiet spoken manner, researched, forthright and resolute comments

was a great help in making many a decision on club committees organising

the various events and car rallies over the years.

His classic white 1965 Rover P5 Saloon participated in many events and

was the “Bridle Saloon” for a Past Presidents daughters wedding in 1998.

Alastair of course being the Gentleman Chauffer.

A gentleman as always, Alastair provided a portable table complete with

bubbles and nibbles for the Bridal Party while the Bridle Groups photos

were taken at Chingford Park.

In later years Alastair was the proud owner of a 1998 white gold Rover

623GSI, always kept it in immaculate order.

A number of Club members attended Alastair’s funeral at Hope & Sons,

Andersons Bay Road on Monday afternoon.

Thank you Alastair from us for all your jobs, all well done and thanks for

the memories.

Rest In Peace.

Greetings to all mem-be

I hope that spring is treating you all well, it is a relief that most of New Zea-land has returned to alert level one again. I’m sure, like me, you are look-ing forward to the warmer months and the motoring they will (hopefully!) bring.

In early September, while visiting Christchurch on holiday, I attended a weekday lunch organised by the Rover Club of Canterbury, it was nice to catch up with the Roy, John and some of the other Canterbury members. Do consider attending events at other Rover Clubs if you are travelling in New Zealand over the summer months. Your local Club’s Chairman or Secretary can provide you contact details of other Rover Club’s.

I really enjoyed reading Steve Barnett’s AA Directions magazine article on his journey from Auckland to Nelson in his P4 to attend the 2020 ARCC Rally. Thanks Steve for such a great article on the pleasure of Rover ownership and the benefits of belonging to a Rover club. Rover owners in the wide readership of the Directions magazine may well consider joining a Rover club as a result of this article. I’ve had a number of people com-ment positively to me about the article.

National Rally 2021

The Rover Car Club of Wellington are hosts of the 2021 National Rally. The Rally will be held over the weekend of 26 – 29 March 2021 and will be based in the Wairarapa.

The format of the Rally will start with the ARCC AGM on Friday afternoon. Saturday will see judging of cars and driving skills competitions. A naviga-tion rally will take place on Sunday morning with some free time on Sun-day afternoon for Rally participants to explore the Wairarapa. We’ve set and tested the navigation rally route. Details on meals, accommodation and other activities will be distributed shortly.

List of Recommended Repairers I have attached the current list of recommended repairers. Can I ask the Club please review the details and advise of any updates by mid-November. I will then issue an updated list of repairers in early Decem-ber. Could I ask that Club’s consider adding any specialist parts suppliers in their region? Best wishes, Nicholas Marshall, National Secretary.

Greetings To a All Members
