HALF TERM
This afternoon your child should have come home with a print-ed “What’s on this term” document. This shows most of the events scheduled for the summer term. It is going to be a very busy and exciting eleven weeks.
One of the events happening is our Art and Grounds week (beginning 13th June). During this week we will be working with an art specialist on art installations for the school grounds. We will also be working hard to improve the grounds. If you are a keen artist / gardener or would just like to be involved in work-ing with the children to improve our school environment please let the office know when you could help during that week. Any donations of plants would be gratefully received.
This week, Year 3 and 4 visited Butser Farm as part of their Anglo Saxon project. They had an amazing day helped by lovely sunshine. It was fantastic to hear from the Y3/4 teachers that the staff at Butser were so complimentary about the children’s great behaviour and enthusiasm for their learning.
Enjoy the long weekend and don’t forget the May Fair x x x x
FOOTBALL Last Friday two teams competed in
a football tournament at Mountbatten School
against other local schools. There were 2 teams,
the A team made up of year 6s and the B team year
5/6 mixed. The B team got 18 points and A team
got 13 points. We kept fighting untill the end with
everything we had. Kerem said “This is the last year
6 footy comp of the year and we are not leaving
empty handed”. Well done boys for coming home
with both trophies. By Max M & Luke. W
BUTSER ANCIENT FARM
Year 3-4 went on a school trip to Buster ancient farm on Thursday 28th April 2016 to learn about the Saxons. On our school trip we made delicate bracelets from sheep’s wool. As well we made a fence called a wattling fence that is meant to last for seven years. This was used from Hazel Trees, woven in and out of each post. After that we created a mixture of clunch that you can use to build a strong wall. Finally we became archaeologists and dug up some interesting Saxon artefacts from pits. It was a great day! CROSS COUNTRY
It was a bright and sunny day at Cupernham
Junior School on Tuesday for the schools cross
country league. We were all really nervous and exited. It was the final of the series. Cara O set
off first with the year 5/6 girls coming in 27th.
She was followed by Megan R and myself. It was
my first time so I went out quickly and held first
place for the first lap. I got tired but kept going
and sprinted for 7th place. The afternoon was
finished off with the year 3/4 boys, William.H
came a brilliant 15th with his first ever race and
Sean O with an amazing 4th.

HEAD LICE
By the time you read this letter it is probably too late to eradicate head lice effectively in school. Could I please remind you that checking and wet combing
should be done on a regular basis, regardless of whether or not your child has head lice. Prevention is better than cure!
WEST COMBING METHOD:
· Wash the hair in the normal way with ordinary shampoo.
· Use lots of hair conditioner and while the hair is very wet, comb through the hair from the roots with a fine tooth-comb. Make sure the teeth of
the comb slot into the hair at the roots with every stroke and do this over a pale surface, such as a paper towel or the bath.
· Wet lice find it difficult to escape and hair which is slippery from conditioner make it hard for them to grip – so removal with the comb is easier.
· Clear the comb of lice between each stroke.
· If you find any lice then repeat this routine every three to four days for two weeks, so that any lice emerging from the eggs are removed before
they can spread.
USING LOTIONS:
· These are available from the chemist over the counter or on prescription for the children. The chemist will advise on
which lotion to use. It is important to follow the instructions on the packet.
· If lice are found, it is most important to check and if necessary, treat the rest of the household. Regular wet-combing is
part of routine hair washing and is the best way to prevent the problem recurring.
TRUMPET CONCERT Last Saturday Ella and I
performed in a concert at Thornden Hall in Chandlers
Ford. We played 2 songs (Wellow Waltz and Halter-
worth Hustle) with the Mountbatten feeder school
orchestra. We had lots of fun. We both played
trumpet which we have lessons for at school each
week with Mr Hunter. Kathryn Lowe yr. 6
