We are not liable for any mistakes or errors made installing the home theater room. Every room is different, and the quality of the installers are factors in which RowOne® has no control. These instructions are written for a typical home theater room, and could be different for rooms with cement floors, brick walls, pipes, ductwork, doorways, electrical and other factors that can cause issues installing a home theater room. We always recommend wearing safety glasses, and other protective clothing. Children should not be in the room during installation for safety reasons. Handle all tools properly, and follow the instructions to create a safe and enjoyable home theater experience.

Prepare Work Area and Tools

Beginbyclearingtheworkarea.Columnsarebuilttobeassembledwhiletheyarelyingon the floor, so the work surface should be level and clean of debris and otherobstructions.

Havethefollowingtoolsathand:• Measuringtape• Atleastone,preferablytwopowerdrillswithdrillbitsandscrewdriverbits.• Hammer• PencilandNotePad• Level• Saw• Anchorscrewstofastenthecolumnsandcrownmoldingsupportsintothewalls.• Stepladder

Wehave found that assembling the columns ina spaceadjacent to the theater helpscreate a better work flow by separating the task of column assembly from columnattachment.

LET’SBEGIN:

Unpackcarefully!Toavoiddamage,itisadvisabletoonlyunpackmaterialsforonecolumnassemblyatatime.Columnsectionsarenotdesignedtostanduprightwithoutsupportpriortobeingassembledandattachedtothewall.Donotleavecolumnsectionsorassembledcolumnsleftstandingunattended—asuddenbreezefromadooropeningcancausethemtofalloverandcausepersonalinjury,ordamagethecolumnsandsurroundings.Each standard columnassembly consists of a lower column section, an upper columnsection, and a column keystone top. (Chair rail and baseboardmolding adapters areoptional).NOTE:Thelowercolumnsectionsarebuiltwithaninsidebracenearthebottom. Thisbracewillgivethecolumnsupportfortheuppercolumn.Theuppercolumnbraceactsasashelf,ifthecolumnhasaspeakeropeningwithgrille.

Ifyourcolumnshavespeakeropeningstherewillbeclothcoveredspeakerdoors.Handlethesedoorscarefullyasthecloththatlinesthedoorsisveryfragileandlight,andshouldnotbehandled.Stretchingtheclothortearingtheclothmaynotbeeasilyrepaired,andmayresultinrequiringareplacement.

RowOne®columnscanhaveafinishedheightofbetween7and9feet.This flexibilityallows thepurchaser tocreateeithera traymolding look (moldinglowerthanceiling)orcrownmoldinglook(moldingneartheceiling).Temporarilystand a lower column section upright against awall.With an assistant, place anuppersectionintothelowersection.Extendtheuppersectionagainstthewallanddetermineavisuallyattractivecolumnheight.Notethisheight.Lay the loweranduppercolumnsectionsonthe floor.Extendthecolumnto therequiredheight.Haveanassistanthold thesections together tightly.Thecolumnsectionsarejoinedtogetherwithscrewsormorequicklywithapowernailgun.Ifanailgunisused,besurethenailsareshortenoughtostaywithinthewoodwork.Thecolumnsmaybepre-holedforeasyassembly.

Placeacolumntopwithadaptersontoanuppercolumnsection.Makethebackedgeofthetopflushwiththebackedgeofthecolumnsides.Attachthecolumntoptotheuppercolumnsectionwithfourscrews.

Overview–Thecolumnsmaybeflush-mountedtothewallsorfloatedoffthewallasmalldistancetoallowfabricpanels(notincluded)toslideinbehindthecolumnsandbepulledtothe column center. Height of the columns can create either a traymolding (free-standing columns without crownmolding), or crownmolding look (columns withcrownmoldingsupportsforcrownmolding).Ineithercasethesuppliedhardware“L”bracketisusedtofastenthecolumntowall.The“L”bracketcanbeattachedtothetopoftheattachedcolumntoporifnotaddingfabricpanelsontheinsideoftheuppercolumnsection.

TrayMoldingInstallationDetails–A traymolding finishes below the height of the ceiling. This allows enough roombetween the column top and ceiling to attach the “L” bracket to the wall with apoweredscrewdriver.Withanassistant,standanassembledcolumnuprightagainstthewall.Attachthesupplied“L”brackettothetopmountingsurfaceoftheuppercolumnsectionwiththescrewsprovided.Notethatthehardwarehasslotstoallowthecolumntoeitherfitflushagainstthewallortoextendoffthewall.

Usingtheholesinthe“L”bracketasguides,markapointonthewallwheretoinsertascrewwherethebracketwillslideonto.Iftheintendedlocationonthewalldoesnotlineupwithawallstudinstallwallanchorsthelocationsmarkedabove.Attachthecolumntothewallwithscrewsthatpassthroughthebracketandintothestudorwallanchor.

Overview–Oncethefirstcolumnisinplaceandattachedtothewall,checkthatalltheremainingcolumns are the same height. Be sure that the floor is level, and ceiling heightmeasuredfortheareawhereeachcolumnwillbeplaced. Just layingthecolumnsnexttoeachother,andattachingthebasetotheuppersectionsothattheyareallthesameheight,mayresultinmeasurementerrors.Takeinconsiderationthatthefloormaynotbelevel. Ifthehometheaterroomisbeingsetupinthebasement,manyfloorsslanttowardsthemiddle,ortowardsadrain.Thisiswherethelevelandmeasuringtapeneedstobeused.Withthefirstcolumnattached,usetheleveltomeasuresixfeetfromthecolumntoptowardsthecorner.Sixfeetisthemaximumlengthofthecrownmoldingstrips. Thekeystoneadapterthatsupportsthecrownmoldingneedstobeattachedtothewall.Unscrewthekeystoneadapterfromthewallsupport,andscrewthewallsupportintothewallusingwallanchorscrews,thenscrewtheoutsideportionofthekeystoneadapterbackontothewallsupport.Oncesecured,pushinthewoodscrewcapstohidethescrewstogivetheadapterafinishedlook.Onceconnected,dropinthecrownmoldingintothecolumntopcrownmoldingsupportandthewalladapter.Nowyouhaveafinishedsectionofyourhometheaterroom.Continuetodothisaroundtheroomdoingthesamethingwithattachingtheinsidecorneradaptors,oroutsidecorneradapters,droppingthecrownmolding inplaceaseachsupport isattachedtothewall. Thishelps toassurethat thecrownmoldingislevelasthetheaterroomisbeinginstalled.Allroomsaredifferentsizes.Veryseldomwillthe6’crownmoldingfittheexactlengthorwidthoftheroom,sothecrownmoldingswillhavetobecuttofit. Forawell-balancedroom,forexampleiftheroomis10’footwide,thecrownmoldingwillneedtobecutdown2’tofitthewall.Wesuggestthattobalancetheroom,cutting1’offtwoseparatecrownmoldingswillhelpcentertheoveralllook.Balancethepostionofthecrownsupportonthewall,sothecrownsupportwillnotbetoofarrightorleftbyhavingone6’crownandone4’crowninlength.Thereissomemarginalroomforerrorifonedecidestocutbothcrownsevenly,asthecrownmoldingendsarehiddenbehindthecrownmoldingwallsupport.

AttachingtheProsceniumtothelargecolumns:TheProsceniumcomesinseveralpieces–Bottomfasciaattachestoeachofthelargecolumns.IfthetheaterroomisorderedwiththeProscenium,themoldingalongthelargecolumnbaseiscuttoeasilyattachtheProsceniumusingthecolumntrimastheProsceniumsupport.Using“L”bracketsattachtheProsceniumtothelargecolumnsoneachside(TheYouTubevideoshowshowtosetup).Ifplanningtouseacenterspeakerchannel,removethecenterwoodpanelandinstallthespeakerpanelinitsplace,takingcarenottodamagethedelicatespeekerfabric.TheuppersectionoftheProsceniumisactuallyaframe,andonceassembledandattacheditwilbeopeninthecenter(pictureframelook).ThisopeningwillbehiddenbyafixedscreenorcanbeusedasaframetogoaroundawallmountedflatscreenTV.
