The government supplements this with an accommodation contribution on their behalf. Residents who are determined as fully-supported by the government do not have to pay an accommodation payment.

Entry ProcessBefore entering a Royal Freemasons aged care residence, all of the following three steps must be undertaken by the incoming resident (or their representative).
1. ACAT / ACAS / NSAF Assessment This assessment lets us know what type of care a prospective resident may require, and allows us to claim government funding to reduce fees. Aged Care Assessments are conducted by external assessment agents called ACAS teams . Your local GP can assist with arranging an assessment, or you can arrange directly by calling 1800 200 422 or at myagedcare.gov.au. There is often a wait of a few weeks for assessments, so it is best to organise this as early as possible.
Entry into a Royal Freemasons Residence
2. Centrelink / DVA Assessment The government requires those who can afford to contribute more towards their care to do so. As such, every person entering aged care, including those applying for a financially supported place, must have an assets and income assessment. This assessment will determine if a resident qualifies for a government supported place or will pay an additional Means Tested Care Fee. Forms can be obtained from the Department of Human Services via humanservices.gov.au or by calling 1800 227 475.
3. Royal Freemasons Application Form An application form must be completed by all persons interested in becoming a resident at Royal Freemasons Benalla. Our application forms are available directly from any Royal Freemasons residence, from our website royalfreemasons.org.au or by calling us on 1300 176 925.
Aged Care Fees and Charges

In residential aged care you might be required to pay one or more of the following fees:
1.Basic Daily Care Fee 2. Accommodation Payment 3. Means Tested Care Fee
1. Basic Daily Care Fee (mandatory) Every person in residential aged care is required to pay a Basic Daily Fee, which covers your day-to-day living costs such as meals, cleaning and laundry. This fee is set by the government and is based on 85% of the single Australian Aged Pension. The current Basic Daily Fee is set by the Australian Government and reviewed every March and September.
Option 1:Refundable Accommodation Deposit: (RAD)A one-off lump sum accommodation payment that is fully refundable at the end of your stay with us, less any amounts you have agreed to have deducted (if applicable). The refund is guaranteed by the Australian Government.
Option 2:Daily Accommodation Payment: (DAP)The accommodation cost is converted into a daily payment, which is charged periodically at the maximum permissible interest rate (MPIR) set by the Australian Government.
Option 3:Combination:The accommodation cost is paid by a combination of a Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD), plus a Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP). You can choose the RAD amount and we will calculate the remaining cost payable as a DAP.
Option 4:Drawdown:This is similar to a combination payment, but the Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) is deducted from your Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) as a ‘drawdown’.When you leave the facility, the remaining RAD balance is refunded.
3: Means Tested Care Fee (Government assessable)There is an additional contribution towards the cost of care that some people are required to pay. The Department of Human Services will determine if you are required to pay this fee based on an income and assets assessment. If you are part of a couple, the assessment will consider half your combined income and assets. These fees are capped annually and over a resident’s lifetime.There are yearly and lifetime maximum Means Tested Care Fees. We recommend you seek independent financial advice (we can provide information on aged care financial specialists if needed).
