Dear Parents,

‘How much training do you give your guides?’ and ‘If you were observing a lesson what would

you be looking for?’ were just two of the questions posed to me at Open Morning last Saturday.

In response to the first, the answer was simple…virtually none, as we just want them to be

themselves. The latter can be summed up with three words, engagement, achievement and

enjoyment. Thank you so much to all those who helped make Saturday morning such a great

showcase for our school.

In other news, in assembly on Monday I announced the Heads of School and Prefects for this

term and I am sure you will join me in congratulating them on their appointments.

Heads of School: Lauren Barton and Gabriel Maher

Prefects: Zeena Bilal, Islay Pearson, Jasmine Rihal, Lucy Payne, Alec Thurbin, Aidan Bradley,

Stanley Harrison and George Burrows.

I am ever hopeful that my words of wisdom on Monday have now meant a flurry of activity over

bed-making at home….click on the link here and fast forward (showing my age) to 4min 30secs

in and you will see what I mean.

The IAPS Conference in Edinburgh this week has been very inspirational and I look forward to

seeing you all at school next week to impart some thoughts and ideas.

Best wishes for the weekend.

Mr Thompson

Lower Junior Celebration Assembly will once again take place on Friday afternoons at 2.50pm. You are warmly invited to join us to celebrate the children’s academic success, exceptional behaviour and of course, any birthdays from the week. If you would like to attend Celebration Assembly, please arrive at school no earlier than 2.40pm to ensure plenty of time for you to be seated before the children arrive. Please also ensure that you do not use mobile phones or talk during this assembly as this can be distracting for the children.

Please be aware that we will be celebrating birthdays on the following days this half term: 6th October: Birthdays between 2nd – 15th October

13th October: There will be no Celebration Assembly due to our 12pm finish for Half Term.

Any birthdays taking place during half term between 16th – 29th October will be celebrated when we return to school

Netball

What a fantastic week of Netball. The Y3’s enjoyed their first taste of netball on Saturday morning at our Open morning, with lots of excited giggling faces it was a huge success.

Monday saw the U8AB teams play their first competitive matches against Croydon High and both teams won! The U9’s narrowly lost against a strong Croydon High team.

On Tuesday Croydon High came to play against the U10 and 11 teams, despite a few last minute juggling due to illness we managed 3 out of 4 victories with some amazing shooting for both U10 teams scoring 26 goals between them!

Finally on Wednesday the U11A team headed to Sutton for their versatility tournament where pupils play in a variety of positions. The girls started brilliantly winning 7-1 against Aberdour. We continued our winning streak notching up another 2 wins against Banstead and Sutton A. A strong Putney team demonstrated the level we are aiming for, we finished on a high with another victory over Sutton B. This put the girls 2nd overall a great start to the season, well done.

More Netball success!!

The Junior School Choir The choir forms part of our co-curricular music programme. Throughout each academic year, the choir participates in numerous musical events - both internally and also further afield in the wider community. Recent performances have included carolling’ at Whitgift Shopping Centre, and at Addington Palace. Regular commitments for our young choristers include leading the congregational singing and providing an anthem at our bi-weekly Chapel Services. The choir also has a high-profile performance presence in our Harvest and Christmas celebrations. Their considerable contribution to the musical life of the Junior School is very much recognised, and their sense of kudos and responsibility is palpable. The rehearsal schedule set in place for this term, is as follows: Tuesdays and Fridays at 10.30-11.00am Pupils who wish to experience this co-curricular choral activity before making a firm commitment to regular participation, are warmly invited to attend the above rehearsals in the week ahead. Following this initial introduction, choristers are required to attend rehearsals each week. Mr Urie and I, look forward to welcoming lots of potential young choristers for our musical ‘taster’ sessions. Meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me, should you have any additional enquiries. Siobhan Fox Head of Music
