THE MUSEUM

On November 8th, 2002, the Museum of the Real Tombs of Sipan was inaugurated, in Chiclayo, which was destined to recreate the Sanctuary of the Lord of Sipan – together with all his ornaments, jewels, pottery and offerings that were found in the tomb, and the ones from other tombs of the Mochican royalty, like those of the great Priest and the Old Lord. The architecture of the museum, an imposing truncate pyramid of three floors built on a piece of land of seven hectares. It simulates the design of the Mochican sanctuaries. Its construction cost 3,5 million dollars. The money was obtained thanks to contributions from the Peruvian government (that contributed with two million) and the Counter Value Fund Peru-Switzerland (one million). The rest was obtained from what was collected in the exhibitions of archaeological pieces of the tomb of the Lord of Sipan, which took place in several cities in the United States and Europe.

Este segundo par de orejeras lleva en su parte central un primoroso mosaico de turquesa con la representacion del pato “pico de cuchara”, ave vinculada a los rituales de purificación y fertilidad, ademas representa la cacería de los patos.

Estos ornamentos combinan partes metálicas y turquesa de diferentes tonalidades que incluyen un hilos de oro que marca la silueta de la representacion central .

This second pair of earmuffs carries in its central part a mosaic of Turquoise with the representation of duck "pico de spoon", Bird related to the rituals of purification and fertility, also represents the hunting of ducks.

These ornaments and turquoise metallic combine parts of different colors that include gold thread makes the silhouette of the central representation.

Esta orejera tiene en el centro la imagen tridimensional de una dignatario mochica por tanto sus armas de combate y adornado con una diadema semilunar sobre la cabeza, una nariguera, un collar de cabezas de búho.Representa el poder militar religioso y económico.

This earmuff has in the center a Mochica dignitary with combat weapons and adorned with a crescent diadem on his head, a nose ring, and a necklace with owl heads.

It represents the economic, religious and military power.
