1.0 Introduction:
The Eyapamikama Lake property is located in northwestern Ontario, approximately 170 km north of Pickle Lake, Ontario. The center of the claim group is situated at 9^06^ longitude and 52 058.5'N latitude on mapsheets NTS 53B/14 and 15. The property is owned by Northern Dynasty Minerals Ltd. and Energold Minerals me. Access to the property is provided by float plane from the village of Weagamow, home to the North Caribou Lake First Nation.
This report describes a program of lithogeochemical sampling completed during September and October, 2002. It was designed to study the type and degree of alteration associated with the polymetallic mineralization present on the property, based upon concentrations of major, minor, and trace elements. It represents a follow-up to an initial program of lithogeochemical sampling completed in the fall of 2000, in which 21 samples were collected from 3 drill holes. The 2002 sampling program involved the collection of an additional 87 samples taken from 7 drill holes situated along a 2.3 km strike length of the mineralized horizon. All drill holes were completed in 1987 and 1988, with the drill core stored on the property. This report is largely derived from the observations made and descriptions provided by Robert J. Tremblay, B.Se. Geologist, who designed and supervised the sampling program (Tremblay, 2002).
2.0 Lithogeochemical Sampling and Results:
Eight-seven core samples were collected for whole rock analysis from the following drill holes: 87-12 (9 samples), 87-13 (13 samples), 87-23 (9 samples), 87-25 (13 samples), 88-2 (18 samples), 88-3 (12 samples) and 88-4 (13 samples). The location of these three drill holes is shown on Figure 1. Samples were collected at many levels across the stratigraphic package in all drill holes. Care was taken to select material displaying little alteration, shearing, and mineralization. Samples were submitted to ALS Chemex Laboratories in Thunder Bay, Ontario for whole rock analysis by XRF-Wavelength Dispersive Method, with a lithium borate fusion sample preparation. Geochemical results together with descriptions of sampled intervals are included in Appendix l, while the geochemical laboratory report is attached in Appendix 2.
The geochemical results indicate that the volcanic package varies from mafic to felsic in composition. Though spiky variations in concentrations of certain elements occur throughout most drill sections studied, they do not significantly disturb the general alteration pattern. The present study indicates that hydrothermal alteration associated with volcanic venting occurs over the entire 2.3 km strike length of the target horizon. The following general trends are indicated (Tremblay, 2002):
OCT 14 '02 18=16 PAGE.27

OCT-14-2002 15=25 P.28/42
- Sodium (Na2O) concentrations display a clear and sustained depletion in all drill holes tested over the entire strike length of the target horizon, with the exception of drill hole 88-2. In this hole, depletion is.widespread but very irregular, which may be attributed to the disturbance of the stratigraphic package related to a possible fold closure situated to the immediate west.
-Calcium (CaO) depletion is more widespread and consistent west of the proposed fold nose, in holes 87-25, 87-12 and 87-13. To the east of this structure, calcium concentrations are generally more elevated with erratic depletion.
- Potassium (K20) concentrations are generally elevated over the entire strike length of the stratigraphic package. Enrichment is less intense and consistent in holes 88-2, 88-3 and 88-4.
- Magnesium (MgO) concentrations are wide ranging, with enrichment of intermediate to felsic rocks indicated in many samples throughout the entire strike length of the target horizon.
- Strontium (SrO) concentrations are generally low over the entire length of the target horizon. An analysis for elemental strontium would be preferable to properly evaluate this depletion.
- Aluminum (A12O3) concentrations are locally and erratically elevated along the entire strike length of the target horizon.
3.0 Conclusions:
The overall geochemical pattern obtained from the 2002 core sampling program supports the conclusion of the 2000 program that base metal mineralization and associated alteration on the property are the result of syn-volcanic activity. Geochemical results from the 2002 program indicate that hydrothermal alteration extends over the entire 2.3 km strike length of the mineralized horizon that was sampled.
As a result of the 2002 sampling program, it is concluded that further, systematic drilling is required along the entire 2.3 km trend of the mineralised horizon, even in portions where weaker mineralization was encountered in previous drilling (Tremblay, 2002). To date, most of the drilling that has been completed is relatively wide-spaced and shallow. The property is considered to have very favourable exploration potential for significant, additional mineralization (Tremblay, 2002).
