INTRODUCTION
Walker Exploration Ltd. contracted to carry out a magnetic survey
over 4 mineral claims in the southwest sector of Sheraton Township, about
40 kilometers east of Timmins. The linecutting and chaining was done in
February 1985. The magnetic survey was made on April 3, 1985.
An EDA PPM 300 proton magnetometer was used for the survey, while
an EDA PPM 400 base station magnetometer was used for diurnal control. About
8.2 kilometers of line was surveyed.
SUMMARY
The magnetic survey suggests a north-south structure, likely diabase,
under heavy drift cover, and is likely a continuation of the same zone on
Grid SH3, one half mile to the north.
PROPERTY
The property covers the north h of Lot 10, Concession II in
Sheration Township. The 4 mineral claims are 822393-822396 inclusive.
Access is via the Gibson Lake road which crosses the claims. The Gibson Lake
road goes south from Highway 101, about 4 kilometers east of Night Hawk Lake.
The group is about 22 kilometers by road south of Highway 101.
- 2 -
PREVIOUS WORK
Cominco carried out airborne and ground geophysics to the north
of this group. No assessment work has been recorded on these claims.
GEOLOGY
Precambrian basic volcanics underlie the Sheraton Township area.
Some north-south diabase dykes are in the southeast section of the township.
The westerly part of the township has heavy drift cover.
SURVEY METHOD
The magnetic survey was performed with EDA PPM 300 proton magnet
ometers, measuring total field to 0.1 gammas. Diurnal control was made by
using an EDA PPM 400 base station magnetometer, located on the Gibson Lake
road, to the north of the grid. Other grids on this project are tied into
this common base station.
The field magnetometer and base station magnetometer have solid
state memory for storage of values and locations of stations read. The
instruments have built in clocks which are synchronized each day. The units
are plugged together each evening and the built in computer programme in
the base station allows for automatic diurnal corrections. Corrected data
was stored on cassette of an HP85 computer.
- 3 -
Observations were made at 25 meter stations on lines at 125 meter
spacing. Values are plotted on a plan at a scale of 1:5000. Contours of
values are plotted on a separate sheet.
SURVEY RESULTS
A north-south zone of higher magnetics occurs along Line 250W,
with the rest of the grid fairly flat.
CONCLUSIONS
The north-south structure is likely a diabase under heavy over
burden. The relatively flat area adjoining to the west also indicates
heavy cover.
Respectfully submitted,
