Components Of Research Problem

There must be an individual or group which has some difficulty or problem

There must be some objectives to attain it.

There must be alternative means for obtaining objectives

There must remain some doubt in mind of a researcher with regard to the selection of alternatives.

There must be some environment to which the difficulty pertains

SELECTING A PROBLEM Subject which is overdone should not

be normally chosen. Controversial subject should not

become the choice of an average researcher.

Too narrow or too vague problems should be avoided

Familiar and feasible subject should be selected

UNDERSTANDING A PROBLEM

Well equipped in terms of his background to carry our the research?

The study falls within the budget he can afford?

The necessary cooperation can be obtained from those who must participate in research as subjets?

NECESSITY OF DEFINED PROBLEM

Statement of the problem in general way

Understanding the nature of the problem

Surveying the available literature. Developing the ideas through

discussions Rephrasing the research problem into

a working proposition

Page 7: Rresearach Problem

Points to be kept in mind while defining problem

Technical terms and words or phrases should be clearly defined

Basic assumptions should be clearly stated Criteria for the statement of the problem

should be provided. Suitability of time and sources of data

available must be considered Scope and the limits must be mentioned

explicitly
