geNeRaL PoweR tooL Safety waRNINgS

waRNINg: Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and

instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

1. woRk aRea Safetya) keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or

dark areas invite accidents.b) do not operate power tools in explosive

atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

c) keep bystanders, children, and visitors away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2. eLeCtRICaL Safetya) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never

modify the plug in any way. do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

b) avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

c) do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

d) do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

e) when operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCd) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3. PeRSoNaL Safetya) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use

common sense when operating a power tool. do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

c) Prevent unintentional starting. ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

d) Remove adjusting keys or wrench before turning the tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

e) do not overreach. keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

f) dress properly. do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery

or long hair can be caught in moving parts.g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust

extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of these devices can reduce dust-related hazards.

4. PoweR tooL uSe aNd CaRea) do not force the power tool. use the correct power

tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

b) do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

c) disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety

measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

f) keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

g) use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

5. SeRvICea) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified

repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that that safety of the power tool is maintained.

because the cutter may contact its own cord. Cutting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and shock the operator.

2. use clamps or another practical way to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by your hand or against the body leaves it unstable and may lead to loss of control.

3. draw attention to the necessity for using bits of the correct shank diameter suitable for the speed of the tool.

oPeRatINg INStRuCtIoNSNote: Before using the tool, read the instruction book carefully.

1. SettINg the dePth StoP (See fig.a)a) Loosen the fixing screw and adjust the depth stop

upward or downward. Note the position of the scale on the body and raise the depth stop by the required amount. Each mark on the scale is equal to 1mm.

b) Tighten the depth stop fixing screw.Note: If you want to make some accurate adjustment, micro- adjustment can be made by turning the fine adjustment knob. A full turn is equal to 1mm.

2. fIttINg the vaCuuM adaPtoR (See fig.b)For the safe of your health and working environment, always use a vacuum adaptor.Use the two long screws to fasten the adaptor socket securely to the routing base. The adaptor socket is suitable for vacuum adapter with a suction hose.

3. fIttINg the RouteR bIt (See fig.C,d)• Press in the spindle lock button, loosen the collet

nut with a spanner anti-clockwise and insert the required router bit. (See Fig. C)

Make sure the spring and collet nut are inside before inserting the bits and that the bit fits the collet nut.

• Press in the spindle lock and tighten the collet nut with a spanner clockwise, making sure at least 3mm protrudes from the end of the shank. (See Fig. D)

Note: Wait until the machine complete stops before press the spindle lock.

4. adjuStINg dePth of CutThe depth of cut is the distance between the step buffer and the depth stop bar.

Router bits vary in depth, the step buffer allows for this with its six positions. Use one of the two following methods:Method 1: using a piece of wood method (See fig.e,f,g)Fit the router bit, loosen the depth stop bar fixing screw, pull the plunge lock lever (See Fig. E) up and plunge the router down until the bit comes into contact with the workpiece.Lock the router into this position by pushing down the plunge lock lever.Lift up the depth stop bar (See Fig. F) and insert a piece of wood the same thickness as the depth of cut between the stop bar and step buffer. (See Fig. G)Tighten the depth stop bar fixing screw and release the plunge lock lever to return the router back to its original position. The depth of cut is now set, see “Starting the router” section for final operation.

Method 2: using the scale methodFit the router bit, loosen the depth stop bar fixing screw and release the plunge lock lever.Lower the router down until it contacts the workpiece, lock into this position with the plunge lock lever. The scale on the depth bar now shows the starting position. Note the starting position will vary depending on the bit used.Next add the required depth of the cut to the starting position, i.e.: if the scale shows 20mm and you require a cut of 10mm, then the correct adjustment on the scale is 20+10=30mm, if the scale shows 38mm and the required cut is 6mm in depth, the adjustment on the scale will be 38+6=44mm.Now move the depth stop bar to the calculated number, and lock bar with the fixing screw.Release the plunge lock lever, the router will return to its original position.Start Router as described in “Starting the router” section below.

5. uSINg the SteP buffeR (See fig.I)For deep cuts, it is recommended to carry out several cuts, each with less material removal. By using the step buffer, the cutting process can be divided into several steps.

6. fINe adjuStMeNt to Cut dePth (See fig.h,I)Rotating the fine adjustment knob allows extremely precise adjustment of the bit depth. One complete revolution equals 1mm. It should be adjusted only

after the coarse adjustment lock is locked. Rotating the fine adjustment knob counterclockwise causes the depth rod to move up, producing a deeper cut. Rotating the fine adjustment knob clockwise causes the depth rod to move down, producing a shallower cut.The fine adjustment indicator(23) can be moved independently of the fine adjustment knob.This allows the indicator ring to be zeroed at any given depth. After zeroing, when the knob is rotated, the indicator turns with it, indicating the fine change in the depth of cut (in mm). Fine depth adjustment in increments as small as 0.04mm is possible. The maximum setting range is ±2.5mm.

7. vaRIabLe SPeed CoNtRoL SwItCh (See fig.j)The variable speed control switch allows you to vary the speed of the router enabling the optimum speed to be selected for various size of router bits and to avoid the workpiece being burnt, this can occur especially when cross cutting. The speed increases as you turn the switch towards the higher numbers and decreases on the lower numbers (1 being slowest and 6 fastest).Speed table

8. StaRtINg the RouteR (See fig.k)Note: before starting work make sure workpiece is firmly secured.a) Your switch is locked off to prevent accidental

starting. Depress lock off button, then on/off

switch and release lock off button. Your switch is now on. To switch off, just release the on/off switch.

Release switch and lock lever, allow router to return to top starting position. Let the router stop fully before removing from workpiece.Note: Stop the router before adjusting the variable speed.

9. dIReCtIoN of feed (See fig.M,N)The router rotates in a clockwise direction, as a consequence the router must be moved left to right as you face the workpiece and anti-clockwise for outside edges.

10. Rate of feedIt is important to move the router at the correct speed through the work. The incorrect speed may produce a poor quality cut. Moving too fast can cause bit damage and a rough uneven cut.A too slow speed can cause the wood to burn and the bit to overheat. The rate of feed will vary depending on the size of bit, material and router speed. To determine the best speed always practice on a small unseen area or a spare piece of the same material first.

11. uSINg the RouteR fReehaNdThe router can be used without any of the guides allowing creative freehand work, such as signwriting (See Fig. L). Use this feature only with a shallow depth of cut. Note: as the router rotates in a clockwise direction always move the tool in a left to right direction as you stand facing your work (See Fig. M, N).When cutting an outside edge move the router anti-clockwise; and clockwise to cut an inside edge.

12. fIttINg the PaRaLLeL guIde(See fig. o,P)Before using the parallel guide you will need to assemble the guide shafts (A) and the base (B). Remove the two screws(C), washers (D) and spring washers (E) from the end of the two shafts (A). Fit the guide base (B) to the shafts (A) with the washers (D&E) and screws (C) you removed. Tighten screws securely.Insert the shafts (A) into the grooves in the base of the router. Adjust the guide to the required cutting width and tighten the two parallel guide locking screws.

CIRCuLaR CutS (See fig.Q,R)The centering pin allows you to make circular cuts.

• Fasten the centering pin onto the parallel guide. • Place the centering pin against the material.• Set the required radius by adjusting the parallel

guide shafts and tighten the guide locking screws.• Fix the router in required depth with the clamping

lever.• Switch on the machine.• After releasing the clamping lever, lower the

machine slowly.• Cut grooves, shoulders, etc at a steady rate of

feed, holding the machine with both hands.• When finished, raise the machine again.• Switch off the machine.

14. uSINg the teMPLate guIde (See fig.S,t)Use this feature to cut out a shape from a template. This is a useful method when you want to repeat an image. Fix the template guide to the router base using the two long screws provided.To obtain an exact copy, the workpiece must be bigger by an amount equal to the difference between the outer edge of the guide ring and the outer edge of the cutter.Note: The flange should be downward. (See Fig.S)

15. ChaNgINg the RouteR bItPress the spindle lock and get the spindle to latch in place. Loosen the collet nut with the open-ended spanner. Change the router bit and tighten the collet nut with the spanner.Note: Remove all adjustment and assembly tools before starting the machine.

MaINteNaNCe Remove the plug from the socket before carrying out any adjustment, servicing or maintenance.Your power tool requires no additional lubrication or maintenance. There are no user serviceable parts in your power tool. Never use water or chemical cleaners to clean your power tool. Wipe clean with a dry cloth. Always store your power tool in a dry place. Keep the motor ventilation slots clean. Keep all working controls free of dust. Occasionally you may see sparks through the ventilation slots. This is normal and will not damage your power tool. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
