Reckoning of children from the Saptamsa.

The matters relating to children are to be seen from Saptamsa, this includes gender, sequence,

when they are born, any danger to their health/life, general well being. A yoga formed with regard

to the childs paka may be present in the child horoscope as well. I'll briefly eplain this here. Imay add more details as I get my thoughts collected. This document may seem a bit complicated

than what it is.

!ractice and repeated use makes this a natural process.

"# Identify the Saptamsa lagna.

If the lagna is an odd lagna, we go clockwise.If the lagna is an e$en lagna, we go counter clockwise.

This sign can be referred to as !aka-# )ind the lord of this house nsure we process 0ars/1etu for Scorpio and Saturn/2ahu for

Aquarius.

This lord is now referred as !akesha.3# )ind the placement of this lord. (!akesha#This placement is now referred to as 4hoga

The general rule is as follows

problem is procreation as these three planets tend to obstruct the naisargika putra karaka;upiter.

B In )emale >oroscope, 0oon and in 0ale horoscope, Sun and ;upiter becomes the key

controller progeny in the saptamsa and thus the procreation. If they are badly placed, being afflicted, or placed in the 0araka Sthana in the Saptamsa, this can show problem

or denial of progeny

B The method of 9eha gi$en by 0aharishi ;aimini in Dpadesha Sutra is infallible in

predicting the fertility or procreati$e ability of the nati$e. !t. 2ath eplains this in thefollowing words

EThis method is based on the 2asi chart. 9etermine the arudha padas of the third and ninth house

from the +agna and the Sun. The arudha padas of the - rd and 8 th from the Sun (AS- and AS8#

constitute the ability to sustain the Atma (soul signified by Sun# in the form of Sperm (i.e., thesperms should ha$e life in them#. The arudha padas of the third and ninth from the +agna (A-

and A8# constitute the physical ability to procreate. If the Sun is in the % nd , 6 th , = th or "% th

houses from any of these padas, the same can be damaged resulting to infertility. Similarly, ifenus and 0ercury conCoin these padas, they produce infertility. If either of these two padas is

not damaged, childbirth is delayed and not denied. If the padas from +agna are afflicted as abo$e,

medical attention is required and the astrologer should not attempt remedial measuresunnecessarily.

enus, on the other hand causes association with too many thereby depleting the chances

for progeny. >owe$er If both planets gi$ing children (Sun, 2ahu, ;upiter and 0oon# andthose denying children (0ercury, Saturn and enus# are present, a child will be born

after some delay. (;.S. ".3.%7# -

Stressing the point !t. 2ath says in A (page "7&# that, if Saturn, enus and 0ercury are intrines EaloneF, then the nati$e is barren irrespecti$e of all yogas in the birth chart. This is an

o$erriding rule.

B )or female charts, the ninth should be considered and for male charts the fifth for determining procreati$e successes. (SanCay 2ath, ;.S.#

B 0arsGs and SaturnGs influence on the trine to the Saptamsa +agna show that the nati$e

will ha$e Adopted hild or 9utta!utra 3 . !t. 2ath says, 0ars and Saturn are karaka for

the younger and elder brother respecti$ely and could indicate begetting a child through akinsman as the nati$e many lack procreati$e abilities or otherwise. It also indicates

marriage with a di$orcee/widow who already has children from a per$ious wedlock.

The signs Aquarius and Scorpio ha$e two lords each and hence if they happen to be the house of

child/ pregnancy, they can indicate twins.0ost standard tets prescribe the in$ol$ement of the Signs 5emini, irgo, Scorpio or Aquarius

for the birth of the twins.

)or matters concerning children, the placement of the fifth lord and the planets should be seen

from the ;upiter, the naisargika putra karaka. If there are planets in strengths from the ;upiter,they can indicate the number and nature of the children. The placement of the fifth lord from

The timing of birth of Indi$idual children, their nature, abilities and fortune is seen in the

Saptamsa chart. This has been eplained in detail by 0aharishi ;aimini Dpadesha Sutras. (A=.6."#

ounting

The first child is seen from the & th house counted Lodiacally or antiLodiacally depending onwhether the +agna is 99 or @ & . The subsequent pregnancies are seen from e$ery third

house 6 (0anduka 5at 7 i#. Thus if an odd sign ascends in the Saptamsa, the indi$idual

pregnancies are seen in the & th , 7 th , 8 th , "" th etc. If an e$en sign ascends in the saptamsa, theindi$idual pregnancies are seen in the 8 th , 7 th , & th , - rd and so on. (A# After the

0anduka 5ati reached the point of start, the sequence of Cumps would repeat again, which canGt

be allowed. To counter this problem, the net sign arri$ed at is by rawling the sign. )or

illustration, after the Cump sequence reaches from & th to - rd , the net sign after - rd would be &th again, thus here the Cump doesnGt progress to the & th , but the 3 th there in, where the frog is

supposed to be crawling, than Cumping as there is no space for Cumping, & th house, being already

Se of the hildK

The se of the child is seen from the lord of the sign ruling the house of pregnancy. If thelord is ealted or conCoin male planets (Sun, 2ahu, ;up, 0ars#, the issue is male. If the

lord is debilitated or conCoins female planets (0oon, 1etu, enus#, the issue is female.

Saturn and 0ercury are eunuch planets, but they ha$e found to indicate female and male

children respecti$ely.

If the lord of the sign is neither ealted/ debilitated, not conCoins any other planets, the se of the

child is seen from the nature of the sign occupied by it. All dd signs ecepting the Aquarius and5emini are male birth signs while all the e$en signs, epecting ancer and !isces are )emale

birth signs.

Effect of Parivartana On Counting

If there is a echange of house (!ari$artana Moga# between the Saptamsa +agna lord and the lord

of any other house, the counting will be based on whether the other sign is 99 or @ and

not the oddity of the Saptamsa +agna. >owe$er the counting still starts from the Saptamsa +agna.(A, !age "8-# n se of child If a lord of the child associate with a planet, lets say enus

and there is a pari$artana of this planet with another !lanet, letGs say Sun. The influence of the

other planet, namely Sun will be more dominant o$er the lord of the child, in determining the seof the child. (A, !age "8-#. >owe$er, if there is a pari$artana of the lord of child with

another planet, then the se of the child, determined by the lord of the child is simply re$ersed.

)or e.g., if the lord of the child is enus is placed in +eo, with 0oon and the lord of +eo, Sun is placed in house of enus, Taurus, then the se of the child indicated by enus in conCunction with

0oon, i.e., )emale, shall be changed to 0ale.



Riders

If the lord of a child is placed in the house of another child, then one of the children indicated by

them shall sur$i$e. )or illustration the & th lord is placed in the 7 th house, one of the children

signified by the & th and the 7 th lords will sur$i$e. (!t. SanCay 2ath#. >owe$er, in A, !t.

SanCay has presented one more $iewpoint while showing the use of 9rekkana for coborns,whereby when the counting reaches a sign which houses another lord of the child, the count

crawls o$er to another sign. To illustrate the point he says E>owe$er, apricorn houses two

sisters as indicated by 0ercury and ;upiter and should normally ha$e limited the number of elder coborns. Since the number is actually higher, the net sign Aquarius will indicate the coborn.F

If two lords of the child are placed together, then one of the children shall sur$i$e. )or e.g., if the

lords of & th and 8th are placed in the same sign, then one among the children shown by them

shall sur$i$e. >owe$er, it is difficult to determine who among them shall sur$i$e and can only be

determined from practical e$ents. In the present case, if there is a miscarriage of the first child,the - rd child shown by the 8 th lord shall sur$i$e and $ice$ersa. If one planet happens to indicate

more than one child, then the first child will be shown by the lord of the child howe$er, the % nd

one will be shown by the house of the child and the planets placed therein. To illustrate his point!t. 2ath says in A page "%?, when one of the children ha$e been indicated by 0ars (>ouse

of child J Scorpio#, and the net house of the child happens to be Aries, 0ars will not show the

child, howe$er Aries, placed with 0oon will show a sister who is emotional (0oon# and 2ash(Aries#. >ad there been no planet, then Aries would ha$e shown male birth.

If enus becomes the lord of Saptamsa +agna, the issues indicated by the planets in the = th fromenus cannot sur$i$e unless conCoins 1etu (5anapati#, as these issues will ha$e enus in the

0arana Sthana (2eference#. The same principle can be etended to other planets. Thus in case of

9ifferent Saptamsa +agna, the placement of the lord of the child in the following places cannot

9etails regarding the fortunes of indi$idual children can be predicted by treating each of thesigns occupied by the lord of the pregnancy as the +agna. )or eample, the sign occupied by the

se$enth lord should be treated as the +agna of the child from the second pregnancy.

If the lord of the child has good relationship (Sambandha# with the lord of the Saptamsa +agna,there will be amicable relationship between the parent and the child. >owe$er, the placement of



the lord of the child from the Saptamsa +agna will show, whether the child will be helping his/

her parent in their work. Thus If the lord of any child is placed in the 7 th from the Saptamsa+agna, the child will oppose the parent. Similarly, if the lord of the child is placed in a 1endra

from the Saptamsa +agna, then the parent and the child will become !araspara Mogakaraka

(0utual oworkers#.

:e know that benefics placed in the - rd and 6 th from the A+ in the rasi chart, is a bane for materialistic pursuits, showing defeats and losses, whereas a boon for spiritual pursuits. The same

principle can be applied in the saptamsa where, if the lord of the child, being a benefic is placed

in the - rd or 6 th from the Saptamsa +agna or its lord, the child shall be responsible for thedefeat of parents or their loss of wealth.

If the lord of the child is placed in the "% th from the lord of Saptamsa +agna, the child will

reside in a foreign land away from the parents. "% th is the house which shows reCection of thematters ruled by the planet placed in the "% th from the +agna. Thus is the lord of the child is

placed in the "% th , then this will show that the child will be ha$ing some kind of indifferent

relationship from the parent and being a house which shows long Courney, the child will be

staying at a $ery long distance.Similarly the 0arriages of the children can be seen from the Dpapadas from the +ord of the

children. )or illustration, if the lord of the child is placed in Aries with ;upiter, the upapada will

be placed in Taurus, taking !isces as the "% th from the +agna of child in Aries.ontrolling house of hild and 0arakas

The controlling house for children in male charts is the fifth house and in the female charts is the

ninth house. Thus the maraca house in the male chart will be the sith house and in the femalechart it will be the "? th house.

There can be loss of pregnancy under following circumstances

the controller of the life gi$ing mantra, 0rtyunCaya, does not let the child die. Infact in thehoroscopes of such child, enus will be strongly placed and the 9asa of enus will be $ery

fruitful for these children.

If the lord of the child is in these places, the child may be weak. If enus conCoins, a premature deli$ery is indicated and the child will generally sur$i$e. (;aimini Sutras,

Timing the 4irth of child

". 9asaK The 9asa planet should ha$e benefic argala on the ESaptamsa +agna lordF or obstruct malefic argala on the same. If the 9asa planet has rasi drsti on the Saptamsa

+agna lord, then also there will be birth of a child (A, !age "=3#

%. AntardasaK The antardasa planet should associate with the lord of the child or placed intrine, 7 th or "% th from it. This is also possible, if there is a strong argala of the antardasa

planet on the dasa lord of the child. (A, !age"=&#. The planet ha$ing argala on the

lord of the child can also show the antardasa of birth of the child.-. !ratyantarK The pratyantar dasa planet is normally of a planet in trines to the saptamsa

+agna who in$ariably contributes the +agna of the child. This can be confirmed from the



@arayana 9asa.

A, !age "77K Thus the dasa lord takes the lord of the Saptamsa +agna to theAntardasa lord who brings the !articular child. This yoga results in the childbirth

In case there is a pari$artana of the Saptamsa +agna lord with the lord of another house,

the +agna temporarily shifts to another house and the pratyantar should be Cudged fromthe temporary +agna (A, "8&, "86#. >owe$er the +agna of the child is to be Cudged form

the trines to the Actual Saptamsa +agna.

Among all the trines which can show the +agna of the child, the one who is placed in the 1endrato the +ord of the child shows the highest possibility (A "86#. Among the planets who are

placed in the sign determining the +agna, the strongest among them shall determine the +agna.

@ature of the childThe nature of the child can be Cudged, treating the sign, where the lord of the child is placed, as

the +agna of the child. The lord of the child shall ha$e the most predominant influence on the

child, along with the sign where the +agna of the child has fallen and the trines to the +agna of

the child. )or eample, if the lord of the child is 0ars, then the child is short tempered,aggressi$e, logical, rational, practical etc. >owe$er, when 0ars is placed in !isces, we can say

that the child is intelligent, gets angry only when pro$oked etc.

Marriage prediction A Nadi MethodSaturn, upiter, Mars, !enus

In nadi astrology, Saturn is considered as presiding o$er the portfolio of 1arma or duty as 1arma

1araka. Saturn(significator# decides the fate and duties of the indi$iduals born in this worlddepending on Saturn's interaction with other karaka planets. In performing such duties presided

o$er and decided by Saturn the presiding deity, there will help and cooperation of other planets to

Saturn whether this cooperation will pro$e beneficial or harmful to the nati$e depends upon the planetary configurations I the nati$e's birth chart and during transits. ;upiter is the other main

maCor planet representing the life force or ;ee$a whose interaction with the e$ent karaka planet is

important for fructification of the e$ent. 2ahu and 1etu are the other maCor planets generally

obstructing the e$ent karaka planet. 0ars is taken as the karaka planet for marriage e$ent or for the marital knot . 0arital knot as distinctly different from the concept of marital bliss or

wretchedness of marital life. >ow a marriage e$ent manifests has no bearing on how life

de$elops in the contet of the marital aspect. ontributory factors culminating in the marriagee$ent cease to ha$e any further play or contribution thereafter. Dnder the nadi method, enus is

depicted as karaka for marital life which can de$elop into marital bliss or crucible for suffering.

Transits In nadi astrology, transits of Saturn and ;upiter are mainly considered connecting the

karaka planet of an e$ent in the birth chart for timing the e$ent. Since 0ars is the karaka planetfor marriage e$ent, the interaction of Saturn and ;upiter with mars during their transit becomes

opportune for the marriage e$ent to occur. The 7th sign depicts partner of the nati$e, the one with

whom the marital knot is tied and the transits of Saturn and ;upiter with the 7th sign from 0arsalso becomes opportune. ;upiter and Saturn interact with natal 0ars in birth chart when they

transit o$er these signs or aspect these signs. ;upiter transits each sign for about an year and

Saturn transits each sign for about % "/% years. It can be seen that in one's life span, ;upiter andSaturn would be interacting with the sensiti$e point of marital knot periodically at regular cyclic



transits. :hile it is prerequisite that Saturn and ;upiter in their transit interact with mars natal

position to bring about marriage e$ent, it does not follow that e$ery time ;upiter and Saturninteract with marital knot sensiti$e point it would be necessarily result in the marriage e$ent. The

task, therefore, is to elect the particular transit of Saturn and ;upiter out of the series of transits by

process of eliminating unproducti$e transits. The step in this direction is to check whether the

karaka for marriage e$ent mars comes under situations to cause delay or obstruction. 2ahu'sinteraction with 0ars can cause impediments or delay in marriage. Symbolically , 0ars is

considered as being swallowed by 2ahu.

Change of Sign

In nadi astrology, whene$er a planet is retrograde in a sign, it is considered to be in the pre$ious

sign also. :hen Saturn is in the beginning of a sign upto about - degrees and ;upiter up to about" degree, they are taken to be in the pre$ious sign. :hen two planets in pari$artana (echange of

signs# they are taken to be in their own signs.

In nadi astrology, the transit of maCor planets is also considered in the na$amsa chart in thefructification of the e$ent. Since na$amsa chart is supposed to represent marriage aspect, the

transit of Saturn and ;upiter o$er the na$emsa lagna and na$amsa lagna lord is considered as

additional point for timing of marriage.

are to be considered to be in the pre$ious sign also as per the akya Siddhanta followed by nadi

astrology and age is to be counted from there.:hen 2ahu is with 0ars or net sign to 0ars, the 3th sign from mars would be the sensiti$e

point for interaction with transits of ;upiter, Saturn , 2ahu.

ounting of age is to be started from natal ;upiter sign at the rate for one year per sign inclockwise direction, from natal Saturn sign at the rate of % "/% years per sign in clockwise

This means that ;upiter transit on the natal ;upiter sign is considered as completion of one yearage and accordingly ;upiter transit on the net sign is taken as completion of two years and so on.

Similarly Saturn on natal Saturn sign is considered as completion of % "/% years and on the net



sign completion of & years and so on. 2ahu transit on natal 2ahu is taken as completion of " "/%

years and on the pre$ious sign since 2ahu mo$es anticlockwise completion of - years and so on.4y this thumb rule, it can be quickly checked in which signs ;upiter, Saturn and 2ahu would be

happens is...when a person tries analyLe his or her hand....they get confused and then findthemsel$es stranded in the midst of so many connotations and terms....that the basic common

sense, intuition or wisdom....... which is $ery important for any analysis of these di$inethings...simply e$aporates.....

%# In the process of looking at hand w.r.t first point, try to obser$e few basic things which are

generally neglected by e$en palmistsK

+ike for eampleN

a# ombined Area of fingers is $ery small or $ery large when compared to palm, which is

generally not a $ery good thing to happen, fingers length and area should be proportionate w.r.t

!almNand to see this you donGt ha$e to be a palmist, Cust apply your common sense. There has to be a balance and when things are not in balance they will look awkward and if this

proportionality is getting disturbed, you should be able to make out that awkwardness. :hat

Inde finger and ring finger will appear to be of the same siLe but the ring finger should ha$eslightly greater length, 0iddle finger should be the longest and little finger should reach till at

least the beginning line of the last phalange of the ring finger. So any de$iation from the abo$e - points should be noted downN.consequences we will discuss laterNbut first understandNthede$iations from the ideal scenario.

d# 4readth of the hand in the area of palm and in the area of fingers should be more or less equal.

e# ach finger and thumb should be di$ided in - phalanges only< number should not be % or 3.

f# )inger should be strong P straight without any bend or so.



tcNthat is things like theseNshould be immediately detected and noted down.

-# @et thing which requires attention is the background color of hand, smoothness and hardnessof hand.

Ideally speaking background color of the hand should be pinkish, neither $ery red nor pale

yellowish kind. Secondly hand should not be hard and should be a bit paddy too.

3# 0inimum @umber of hair should be present at the back of the hand.

&# >and should attract minimum le$el of perspiration.

6# @ow come to the mounts, lines, nails and signs.

a# +ines should be continuous, thin (i.e. breath of the line should be minimum#, should not be$ery deep and dark, color should be light brownish, light pinkish.

b# 2emember any downward branches from any line are bad, upward branches are generally

good (but not always#.

c# There should be minimum number of lines on the palm as too many lines are not desirable Cust

like too many cooks spoil the food.
