Fury over voting chaosANGRY EXPATS have been denied a voice in yesterday’s (Thursday) General Election despite registering in good time for a postal or proxy vote.

As Britain went to the polling stations, overseas voters allowed by law to play their part at the ballot box are being urged to complain to change a flawed system.

And expats campaigning for full democratic rights for all UK citizens have already branded the failures “electoral fraud” or at best “gross incompetence”.

The resulting chaos will leave red faces at the Electoral Commission which ran a high profile campaign to get expats still able to vote under the 15-year rule to register.

As a result numbers on the electoral registers across the 650 constituencies soared from around 7,000 registered for last year’s European elections to nearly 114,000 people wanting a say in the UK’s future.

However, with figures still being collected, it appears large numbers of people have effectively been disenfranchised in the so-called mother of modern democracies.

The Electoral Commission has already promised an inquest but it already appears many voting papers were sent abroad with only UK postage paid – resulting in the documents arriving late or not at all.

A spokesman for the Electoral Commission said: “Our guidance to electoral administrators is clear that postal votes sent to overseas electors should be prioritised to allow the maximum time for them to be returned.

CONCERN

“We are aware that some overseas voters have raised concerns that they are yet to receive their postal ballot packs and we will look very carefully at the evidence shared with us when we consider what issues to raise in our statutory election report which will be laid in the UK Parliament in the summer.”

Eduardo Dolon proposed electoral programme on youth and sports

EDUARDO DOLON, the mayoral candidate for Torrevieja Partido Popular, announced the PP’s manifesto on Tuesday. With more than 1,000 resolutions, the entire list will both be available in printed form and online once the campaigns begin at Midnight on Thursday. However, two of the most important sectors, along with employment and commerce that Dolon highlighted, are with sports and youth.

On Youth, Dolon said that his programme has a total of 32 proposals that focus on the concerns of young torrevejenses. Eduardo Do-lon has stressed that one of the main objec-tives is that over the next few years that Tor-revieja will become a ‘Ciudad Universitaria’, which will include the opening of the excep-tional amenities such as the Conservatory and the International Music Auditorium.

For the PP, their priority to have a universi-ty for the city. Furthermore, another priority is to construct a Multipurpose Youth Centre, which could not be developed over the past four years due to the economic crisis. An-other important proposal of the PP Electoral Programme on Youth will be the creation and implementation of a new municipal aid to young unmarried couples, who are regis-tered with the city, are cohabiting and who purchase a new home, which will comple-ment the existing 3,000 euros to young cou-ples who purchase a new home.

On Sports, the program has 53 proposals that refl ect the needs and demands of tor-revejense family sport. The priorities of the PP for this next four years are to continue to invest in the creation of new facilities and

infrastructures; increased eff orts to support local athletes, sports clubs and federations; promotion of the Municipal Sports Schools and facilitate the integration of sport in the whole society of Torrevieja. It is also intended to off er special support to families with fi -nancial diffi culties so that their children can access school sports without any problems.

Eduardo Dolon has already completed some of the most important projects for the forthcoming term, such as the design and construction a swimming pool next to the current heated lap pool, which will aim to meet the needs of activities such as learning to swim classes, swimming for mothers with babies, developing exercises for people with disabilities, physical activity for disabled people, for those recovering from injury, and the development of complementary sports, such as aqua gym.

The construction of a fourth soccer fi eld with artifi cial turf than can be converted into two seven a side football fi elds, replacing the arti-fi cial grass on the soccer fi elds Gabriel Rosado Esteban Samper and develop the the design and construction of an indoor athletic track.

Sports and Youth are but two of the many aspects of the manifesto, the list of subject matter far exceeds the scope of this arti-cle. Next week, other municipal parties will publish their manifestos and the Par-tido Popular shall highlight other aspects of their election program. More details of where to fi nd the diff erent election mani-festos will be published in the RTN as the parties submit details to us.

Chihuahua killed by seagulls in DevonA CHIHUAHUA puppy was killed by a flock of seagulls in Devon, its owner has revealed. Nikki Wayne explained that she had tried to keep Bella, her “really playful puppy”, inside because of the threat from the gulls. However the dog slipped out when she left the door open and was killed before she could flee back into the house in Honiton. Ms Wayne, 57, originally from Canada, said she wanted other dog owners to be aware of the potential danger. Before the attack, she would accompany Bella in the garden but the birds were aggressive despite her presence. “I got really worried about it. They started to swoop down to my face level, brushing me,” she said.

Tony Whitehead, West Country spokesman for the RSPB, said: “It’s obviously no consola-tion to the owners, but this is a rare occurrence. This isn’t by any means typical behaviour of gulls.” adding “Around this time of year they tend to get very territorial as they are nesting. Mind you, gulls are great scavengers though. They will eat anything!”

Royal news...

The world welcomes Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana WindsorON SATURDAY 2nd May at 8.34am Kate

Middleton gave birth to her second child, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth

Diana weighing 8ib 3oz (3.7 kg).

George was born he had spent 12 days camping outside in anticipation of the birth.

News coverage throughout the world congratulated the royal couple on the birth of their second child.

Princess Charlotte is now fourth in line for the throne, pushing Prince Harry back into fi fth position, amidst much speculation that Kate and William are planning to have two more children.

Prince William was present for the whole event as Kate, without an epidural, gave birth just two and a half hours after arriving at the hospital.

Bookmakers had been eagerly waiting on the confi r-mation of the chosen names with Charlotte being one of the favourites, and Elizabeth and Diana honouring the Queen and Prince William’s late mother.

Whilst the royal gun salutes were fi red at the Tower of London and Hyde park the new royal family of four were said to be settled at Kensington Palace, although plans for them to return to their home in Anmer Hall in Norfolk had been made.

New Royal arrivalmakes Lego debut

JUST DAYS after the much-anticipated arrival of the new Royal baby, the Legoland Windsor Resort will welcome her - in miniature - at its world famous Miniland attraction.

The resort’s model making team have created a minute 7cm tall double buggy for Charlotte - created from just three bricks - and her big brother Prince George.

The new Princess in her mini carriage will take up pride of place alongside Lego versions of the tradi-tional birth announcement sign and the wider Royal family in a celebratory scene at the 35,000 brick Buck-ingham Palace. The Princess will be joined by imme-diate family, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George, as well as both sets of grandparents - the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, and Michael and Carole Middleton. Also in attendance are great-grandparents, Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh - as well as the Queen’s beloved corgis.

CROWDS HAD been gathering outside St Mary’s hospital, in London anticipating the arrival of Kate for the birth, with some royal fans wait-ing patiently for as long as two weeks.

Pensioner Terry Hut, 79, was camped out on a bench outside the Lindo Wing with Margaret Tyler,

Continued from front pageON THE Costa Blanca, Arlene Colwell and her husband had not received their papers on Wednesday. Arlene told RTN: “We are very angry. If this is intentional on the part of the UK then if is eff ectively election fraud. If it is sheer incompetence, then it is a disgrace – we have eff ectively been disenfranchised.”

Yvonne Carvath received her papers late on Tuesday (5th May) too late to return them by the end of polling. Husband David is still waiting for his.

“So eff ectively, both Dave and I have not been able to vote at this critical time,” she said. “Our vote has been excluded for this election through no fault of our own and we are not happy about it!”

She said the elections offi ce at Salford City Council blamed the Post Offi ce but it was clear when sending papers to people abroad more time had to be allowed.

“We are all being urged to vote. Is it any wonder that people become disillusioned and don’t bother when the procedures prevent that happening in spite of their best eff orts,” said Yvonne.

Margaret and Gerald Hales chose to have a proxy vote in key marginal Warrington South. They expected the papers to be with their proxy – their son – in good time.

When the papers failed to arrive they made inquiries of the electoral offi ce. They received letters promising all would be well...but still have no voting papers!

FRAUD

Margaret, a campaigner for all British citizens to be able to vote without time limit, complained how Electoral Registration Offi cers in diff erent constituencies remained almost independent and chose when to send out the voting papers. “We need to ditch that! Parliament needs to require that postal votes go out fi rst by law – if they don’t the issue becomes an electoral fraud.

“And rather than just tinkering around the edges, there needs to be a whole new way of vot-ing – it is about time it advances from making a cross with a pencil on a piece of paper. This is the 21st Century... we do everything else electronically.”

Margaret, who was interviewed by the BBC about voting last month, said people had opted to register in a system “that cannot cope and will not work” and been given “false hopes” about taking part in the election. She added: “I am furious and sickened and saddened, all at the same time.”

And fellow campaigner Brian Cave, who lives in France, said there was evidence that large numbers of ‘citizens abroad’ – an offi cial term used rather than expats – had not received bal-lot papers and were disenfranchised. “The Electoral Registration Offi cers in various constitu-

encies have not sent the papers in time so they can be returned in good time before 7th May. This is

electoral fraud if knowingly done, and gross in-competence if not!”

People unable to vote are urged to com-plain to the Electoral Commission stat-ing the name of the failing constituency and circumstances to [email protected] and also copy in Brian at [email protected] to

help him compile his own dossier.Margaret Hales (second left) with the BBC crew

Maximum temperatures and visitorsAS THE thermometers rise and temperatures along the Southern Costa Blanca reach into the 30’s, the number of flights and new routs to El Altet is on the increase. Airport Director Santia-go Martínez-Cava noted that; “The Alicante Air-port will expand its air links with much of the continent for the summer season, in addition to doubling the frequencies in Moscow,” he an-nounced in a meeting with representatives of Tourism Costa Blanca, hoteliers and other tour-ism business professionals, this week.

In addition, growth will continue at the air-port with new flight deals to now include Vi-enna (Austria), Budapest (Hungary), Warsaw (Poland), Carcassonne (France), Leeds (UK), Turin and Venice (Italy), Gdansk (Germany) and Antwerp (Belgium). Nationaly, the Ali-cante terminal also added a link to Asturias and the Russian airline S7, announced that it will double its flight frequencies between El Altet and Moscow. Alicante President, Luisa Pastor, emphasized that this reinforcement of air traffic with the emerging Russian mar-ket is helping to guarantee; “the potential

for tourism on the Costa Blanca is tripled.” A new agreement has been signed with the company Jet2.com, to use their base of opera-tions from Leeds (UK) starting in July.

While the full facilities at El Altet have yet to be fully utilised and two terminals lie unused, this week’s meeting at ‘Routes Eu-rope’ saw the full participation of Alicante, strengthening their ties with new and tradi-tional companies and working with various airlines and promoting new routes, especial-ly the French, Polish and Eastern Europe.

This week alone, the Airport added 885 flight movements (departures and arrivals) through to Sunday. The busiest day is Satur-day, with 236 flights and 35,178 seats offered. Another symptom of the tourist boom in Ali-cante is with the Cruise trade, with three ships this week attracting a total of 5,259 people on board, including passengers and crew. While not a huge number of passengers, it’s a market that the Alicante Port operators hope to grow for 2016 by offering special rates for Cruise Companies for their berthing facilities. El Altet offerings expand for the summer

The PSOE and APTCe with the dismissed workers subcontracted at Salinas

ON LABOUR Day, May 1st, PSOE mayoral candidate Angel Saez, met with the 13 workers who were dismissed fro their positions at Torrevieja’s Salt Works. The jobs lost were from a subcontractor of the lessee Salinas. Saez wanted the workers to know that the PSOE were showing their support for the former employees and called for an upcoming rally outside the City Hall in solidarity with the workers.

The following day, No.3 candidate for the Alternativa Popular de Torrevieja (APTCe), Jose Manuel Martinez Andreu, met with the dismissed workers, who claim they were expelled from the industrial area by private security officers. The workers were not allowed to enter the site and handed dismissal letters; “without any notice” and “with a ban on re-entering the salinas”, in what the workers said was a “humiliating” situation. Andreu Martinez promised that if they have a place of power that they intend to meet with the Directorate General as the Salinas “is an active part of the lease agreement and can perform through collaboration and control.”

Melbourne taxi driver caught reading newspaper while driving

Minute of silence for murdered boy

onment for the crime of abuse in the family. The second oc-curred in 2008 but the defendant was acquitted. The same happened in the third case against him, this time in a court in Martorell (Barcelona) in 2009. In 2011, the alleged murderer

sat back on the bench for the crime of threats. This time he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 22 days of work for the benefit of the community and a restraining order from his then partner four months.

AT NOON on Monday, May 4th, Torrevieja’s full municipal corporation, headed by the mayor, Eduardo Dolon, held a minute of silence on the steps of the Town Hall and con-demned the alleged murder earlier than morning of a 10 year old boy, by his stepfather. The mayor condemned this tragic event and passed on the town’s sincere condolences from everyone in the municipal corporation to the family of the murdered child. He added that the departments of Social Welfare and Education of the City of Torrevieja will assist in whatever way they can and have all the necessary means to help care for the family.

The child was killed when the mother left the house to call the police after having a heated argument with her partner. Guardia Civil officers tried to enter the house where the ag-gressor had locked himself in and from where they could hear the cries of the child. Silvia, the Polish mother of the child was forced to look for a cab because her partner had snatched her mobile. She left the man alone in the town-house and when Silvia, 35 returned home, the door was locked and her partner Alfonso Benito, 49, had taken the child into the bedroom and refused to open the door.

When the officers eventually gained entry through a win-dow, at about three in the morning, the boy was already dead. The alleged perpetrator, with four records for domestic violence since 2003, then stabbed himself and so is now in the ICU of the University Hospital of Torrevieja in serious condition.

Investigating Court 1 of Torrevieja, who are handling the case, cannot perform a reconstruction until the man is dis-charged. The woman is presently in a shelter for battered women. The mother of the deceased child had previously submitted two complaints of abuse against two former part-ners, one against the biological father of the child, a man of Russian origin. The four complaints of domestic violence against Alfonso Benito resulted in two convictions and two acquittals. The first conviction dating back to 2003 in which a criminal court imposed a sentence of seven months impris-

A CAREFREE Melbourne taxi driver has been filmed catching up on the morning’s headlines while driving. Passenger Paul Tully, a councillor at Ipswich Council in Queensland recorded the footage of the cabbie reading a newspaper as he drove in Mel-bourne. Cr Tully said he noticed the man driving erratically earlier in the trip but was shocked when he took both his hands off the wheel. The driver picked up a newspaper after he asked him about the weather. “I thought it was bad enough people texting and talking on phones but reading newspapers while driving through Melbourne is rather bizarre,” said the councillor. “It’s cer-tainly a new meaning of driving hands-free.” A spokesman for SilverTop Taxi said the company was investigating the incident.

Albaladejo noted that to wipe out the smaller municipalities, would wipe out many different promo-tional platforms of municipalities in the province. “This is something that tourism, for example, would mean irrecoverable harm to many commu-nities, for dozens of companies and thousands of jobs, “said Albaladejo.

Mr Huang, who plans to make the event weekly despite reports that the local tourism board received complaints, claims the piglets are “carefully trained” to perform the “special stunt”. He continued: “They get well rewarded with food and once they get over their nerves they clearly enjoyed it. Anybody who says it is cruel is clearly not well informed that pigs like water,”

Eduardo Dolon the man for the peopleEDUARDO DOLON was officially presented as

the Partido Popular candidate for Mayor on Tuesday. Having just finished his first term

as Mayor, he’s looking forward to the elec-tion on May 24th. Eduardo is Torrevieja through and through. Born into a long lin-eage of Torrevieja families, his family tree

branches back at least four generations, maybe more. At the last election, aged just 35

Eduardo was one of the youngest candidates standing for mayor in any Spanish municipal-ity but don’t confuse age for experience as 2015

marks his twenty-fifth year in politics… You must step back in time twenty-five years

to discover when Eduardo first got his political feet wet. At just 15 he joined the Nuevas Gen-

eraciones, the young generation of the Par-tido Popular, rising to the position of

President when only 19. The rea-sons for joining the PP were

fairly basic to begin with as Eduardo said “The PP was a relatively new party;

more exciting than other political groups. They offered more activates for teenagers, they

showed more environmental awareness, a pas-sion of mine, and it was a chance to meet and socialise with girls…”

Eduardo headed off to University to study Business and Economics, earning a Masters Degree in the process, which he put to excel-lent use in managing one of the largest budg-ets within Torrevieja’s Town Hall, as Councillor for Culture and Fiestas over for two terms, from 2003 to 2011.

His first ‘job’ as Councillor for Culture in 2003 was to devise the Summer Cultural Program, to look for new and exciting acts and festivities. He put Torrevieja on the entertainment map by attracting such acts as Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, REM, Cheyenne, Shakira, Duke Ellington, Glen Miller Orchestras, Christopher Cross and many others. He introduced new festivals such as Jazz, Blues, Punk plus Opera, Dance and Zar-zuela and brought us stage shows such as Mama Mia, Chicago and Fame. His vision and drive has seen the development of new museums, exhibi-tion centres, Virgen Del Carmen Cultural Centre, Antonio Soria Park and the jewel in the crown, the new Auditorium and Conservatory of Music. Part of his legacy will be two new projects that are in the planning stages, the Performance Arts

Centre, a sort of Fame Academy for all of Tor-revieja’s young plus local performance groups and the International Cultural and Social Centre which he hopes to find the finance for soon.

Back in his teens he spent a month in London learning English but is quick to point out that he has forgotten most of it but studies with Coun-cillor Rosario Martines, on regular basis. His fa-ther kept goal for Torrevieja for many years and although Eduardo dreamt of one day playing for Real Madrid, his feet would not quite do what his brain was asking of them, so he became ac-complished in Judo and Handball. His love of the outdoors has stayed with him to this day and holidays and vacations tend to be spent hiking in the mountains rather than on the beach.

Eduardo Dolon’s desire is to continue as Mayor of Torrevieja. He’s a local lad married to a local girl Conchi Ballester, with one daughter ‘Rocio’, who was born in October 2013. He hopes his fu-ture is one of serving the citizens of Torrevieja to make the city the very best it can be, for fu-ture generations to enjoy to its fullest. For more information on Eduardo Dolon, his vision of the future for Torrevieja or just to connect, please visit him on Facebook, Twitter or www.pptorrevieja.com.

Hi, My wife and i own a house in Albaida, Valencia (Just north of Alcoy) and i was stopped by the Police Local requesting me to produce my road tax disc. The car is UK registered and is new. i have no tax disc because it has been abolished in the UK. No more paper discs only compuerised information is now held at Swansea, Wales. The Officer demanded to see the tax disc. i tried to explain the change to the UK system. The Officer then said we could only keep our car with the British registration number for one month in Spain and after that time i had to get Spanish matriculation plates. WE have been coming to Spain with our UK car for over 11 years and never had a problem. Can someone advise us of the law about this situation. We are only in Spain for 4 to 5 mMonths and we do not have residencia in Spain. Thanks. Daniel

Tax discs and the new rules

Dishonest customersMY YOUNGEST daughter has just moved to Spain and started waitressing on the Costa Orihuela. She took the order for a couple of British customers, in their 50s or 60s, who were then served by another waitress. They had drinks and food to the value of 17€. For some reason the bill was not given to them which, I understand, should have been done by the bar staff. The couple left without paying and my daughter had 17€ deducted from her pay. This represents 3 hours of hard graft. I think this is appalling. The couple probably attend this complex on a regular basis and should be honest. Don’t they realise that the money comes out of the pockets of their underpaid waiters and waitresses? She was upset and in tears. It has put her off working in Spain.C.L.NaylorPunta Marina

Tower ofRoman powerby Jack TroughtonSYMPATHETIC RESTORATION of the historic tower ‘Torre de Sant Josep’ at Villajoyosa was completed on Wednesday after its 83,000€ facelift.

The construction of the funeral tower dates back to the 2nd Century AD and was a symbol of the Roman Empire’s hold over the Iberian Peninsula.

Specialist workmen were brought in to add ancient skills to the restoration and to preserve a building seen as one of the best surviving monuments of the period – experts say the tower is actually best viewed from the sea, reflecting the power of the Roman navy and its trade routes along the Mediterranean.

ful Spanish athletes.Pedro Delgado said that it is very im-

portant for Torrevieja to be present at the 2015 edition of the Tour of Spain, be-cause as a tourist level, it is a great show-case for the city worldwide. Torrevieja will be the star as the starting point of the ninth stage of the Tour of Spain on August 30th, after being the day before in Murcia, and then moving from Torre-vieja towards the streets to the Cumbre

August 30th will be a historic day marked with a great atmosphere, as during these days the city still will still have hundreds of thousands of tourists and visitors who are in Torrevieja to spend their sum-mer holidays. The stage will be the only one of the Tour 2015 that runs through Alicante province and will promote the entire region to the entire world.

SPORT TOURISM is a major part of Tor-revieja’s tourism future. Last week, a forum organized by Spanish Newspa-per El Mundo was held in Real Club Nautico of Torrevieja (RCNT called “The Impact of Popular Sports in Tourism”. Torrevieja Mayor Eduardo Dolon, stressed the importance of sports tour-ism to the city of Torrevieja and their special sports promotion unit which in just two years has attended more than 16,000 athletes from different European countries. Eduardo Dolon noted that Torrevieja has one of the best and most complete sports cities in Spain, with the majority of facilities all within walking distance of each other. He added that sports were not just important for vis-iting athletes but without doubt it one of the most important activities in im-proving the quality of life of its citizens. Shoplifters leave baby behind THAT OLD saying “a thief always returns to the scene of the crime” was true for a couple in Badalona. They had to. They left their baby behind at the bookshop they were robbing!

The pair were busy putting items into bags and slipping things into clothing when they realized they had been spotted. They then made a mad dash for the door, leaving the baby in the shop. The shopkeeper called local police who took the child to a carer. Meanwhile, when the couple returned to the bookshop hoping to steal their baby back, the police were waiting and promptly arrested them.

‘What’s cooking’ for Elche children?LAST SATURDAY some young people from The Children’s Care Home in Elche, joined patrons at Restaurante El Alto La Dolores, in a ‘cook your own’ BBQ. 128 people attended, and were encouraged to cook their own meat on the BBQ, although there was help available for the less adventurous. It was a great afternoon, with entertainment by Ronnie Tay-lor (aka Justin Sane) and Vinny Mack.

Once again, restaurant owner Andrés donated a Mediter-ranean Cruise as first prize in the raffle, and the lucky winner on this occasion, was Christina Vidal, from Rojales.

The young people from the care home who attended were so appreciative of the monies raised for them through various fund-raisers, and four of them delivered hand-made thank-you cards to the organisers. Two of the young ladies were also persuaded to voice their thanks over the micro-phone, and confidently did so, albeit in Spanish.

This was another very successful event, with 782.60€ raised for the children’s needs.

Twenty thousand people visit Spring Trade FairMORE THAN 20,000 people packed the four day long First Spring Trade Fair in Torrevieja last weekend. Housed in the marquee on the Paseo de Vista Alegre, an average of fi ve thousand people a day passed through the fair. On the fi nal day, traders voiced their support of the new event and said that they had received a good response from the public, resulting in sales for the 35 par-ticipating companies.

The busiest day was a public holiday, May 1st, and thus coin-cided with the closure of many local supermarkets. On a posi-tive note, some traders commented on the need for more such events, to be held in the height of the holiday season in August along with the popular Outlet Fair in October.

Especially during the cooler evenings, activity during the four days was relentless, sometimes being impossible to make your way along the Marquee’s aisle. Apart from the 35 permanent stands, at least twelve others set up stands at the entrance of the fair, along with artists and art and craft dealers. Torrevieja’s Mayor, Eduardo Dolon and Councillor for Commerce, Agustina Esteve, visited the site several times over the four days and ech-oed the comments of the traders in that the town needs more innovative events of this kind. Caridad Salmerón and Techni-cal advisor Alfonso Muru from Torrevieja’s Small and Medium Business Association APYMECO also noted that they have been pushing for more such events to help commerce in the city and they hoped to be able to wok with the City Council to establish more such event to help all torrevejense trades people and ex-pand such events throughout the year.

Time to improve container displays

THERE ARE six essential tasks; cleaning the outside of containers and their drip trays, replacing dead or dying plants, improving planting mediums, pruning existing plants, cleaning leaves and pest prevention.

CLEANING CONTAINERS AND TRAYSClean with a jet or sponge of soapy water and then rinse clean. Recognise that glazed pots are easier to clean than terracotta pots which can be ingrained with green moulds especially in shady situations.

REPLACING PLANTSIf plants are dying or look very poorly because of insect or fungal attacks during the past year it is wise in most cases to replace them. If you have had problems with the same varieties of plants previously change to a diff erent type of plant.

IMPROVING PLANTING MEDIUMSPlants in containers can in time use up all the available nutrients in the soil organic matter based composts. ree solutions are possible. Feed plants every month or two with a liquid or granular feed, change the top few centimetres of compost each year and top up to the original depth to

counteract any compost shrinkage or repot growing plants in new compost every two or three years.

PRUNING EXISTING PLANTSPrune to shape and size appropriate to their intended display situation.CLEANING LEAVES e leaves of evergreen plants are worth washing with a hand sprayer or small sponge each spring. If leaves are very grimy add a few drops of potassium soap or an eco washing up liquid to the water.

PEST PREVENTION e fi rst thing is not to over water or feed plants as this can stimulate fast weak growty vulnerable to insect and fungal attacks. Secondly one can stick insecticide impregnated plastic insect deterrents alongside plants. Fortunately some brands like Neudorff are ecological. irdly it helps to plant one or two garlic segments alongside geranium and rose plants.Lastly if you are pestered by snails or slugs place a few slug pellets on the surface of tge soil of each pot and if you

have groups of containers dust a few granules between the containers where snails can rest in the cool damp shade.Having given containers a spring clean reconsider how you group containers and consider adding more to make displays most pleasing. e book ‘Apartment Gardening – Mediterranean style’ was originally to be titled ‘Attractive and productive terraces and balconies’. It includes much about container gardening of interest to garden gardeners as well. It is now most easily obtained via Amazon and other major internet bookshops.

AS LATE spring and summer approaches and more time is spent outside in gardens or on apartment terraces now is a good time to improve containers of plants.

Korea to make pre-heated ovensSHOPPING FOR new investments tends to be a much more appealing activity than carrying out a thorough overhaul of your old ones. Many ex-pats have investments that they have not reviewed for years and with the right advice could be yielding much better returns utilising tax saving vehicles to enhance the benefits.

It’s all too tempting to skip straight to investing, people are enticed by dreams of the potential riches on offer instead of taking a proper step-by-step approach to reviewing their investments. One of the most common traps people fall in to is listening to friends at the Bar – and I don’t mean the law society. It appears the more they drink, the more they know. Hey, I’m not tee-total!People’s attention gets gripped by the latest fad, whether Rolls Royce have produced an engine that runs on hot air, or after genetic modification of a cabbage the entire third world can be fed from the production of an allotment hoed by Roy Cropper. A more sensible approach is to focus on one’s overall holdings and what they are trying to achieve with them. You should carry out a full health check on your investments every 6 months and we certainly review our clients’ portfolios and make adjustments if necessary, normally in anticipation of new trends. So what is the best way to review your portfolio? Start the process by thinking about why you began

investing and whether your goals and timetable remain the same. Many people invest for more than one reason at a time but over time, one or more aspects of your personal circumstances might have changed, such as receiving an inheritance or losing a partner.

NEW TO INVESTING?Most people have money languishing in UK and Spanish banks earning not enough to keep up with inflation, receiving interest that is taxed at source when our most cautious of clients are earning at least around the 4% to 5% mark in a tax efficient way . Some take an annual 5% Income paid monthly, some let it grow. You can decide.

SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? If your cash or investments have not done well then I would urge you to call a professional financial adviser to review of your circumstances. Spanish law is complicated and has to be considered but have no fear, we offer advice on Spanish compliant products and give

a service that will make the entire process simple and effective for you and your family. At Blacktower (29 years old this year), we are here to give you impartial, independent investment, pensions and wealth management advice. Please call Dave Diggle on 615 607 278 or email [email protected]

Spanish Power of Attorney in Spain: Incapacity process in SpainHOW TO make sure that your assets will be administrated correctly if you lose capacity.WE QUITE often receive consultations from older clients worried about what would happen to their assets should they lose capacity, how would their relatives or friends be able to deal with the Spanish property? Would they be allowed to sell in order to pay for a home or residency? etc.

In Spain, it is possible to grant a Power of Attorney (POA), allowing any person that you want, to be able to deal with your affairs in case of incapacity. In fact, you can choose to grant a POA to be valid from day one, or a POA to be valid (come into effect) only if you lose capacity or a POA to be valid only while you are capable, therefore you can chose the best way according to your individual circumstances.

As stated in previous articles, the Spanish Power of Attorney could be revoked at any time, and always ceases to have effect once the grantor or donor of the POA passes away, it cannot be used any more, as the Spanish Power of Attorneys dies with him.So, as said before, we remind all readers, especially the expat community in Spain, of any age, to review their affairs in Spain, to check that they have in place all the documents regarding their property, accounts, investments, so in case that something happens to them, their relatives, friends and heirs will be able to deal with them. Also, we recommend in some cases, to sign a Spanish POA ( according to the circumstances of each person), as

it is a quick and cheap way to make sure that the person that you chose will be able to administrate your assets if you cannot do so.We would like to remind you, that if you become incapable in Spain, an incapacity process should be started,

but having a proper POA will simplify things, and will allow the person/s you chose to administrate your assets from day one, etc.

If you need any information about this subject please contact us.

Crowd takes Shaun to the finishCompleting the 26 miles and 385 yards in a respectable 4 hours 2 minutes and 11 seconds, he also raised £3,800 for UK charity Scope, which helps disabled people integrate into society by providing opportunities and giving them independence.

“it was absolutely excellent,” he told Rtn on his return to Javea. “i didn’t realise you could actually smile for 90% of a marathon – the last five miles were really hard.

“i finished just outside my target of four hours but it just got the better of me at the end – but the people in the crowd get you through it – they are cheering and singing; it was a feeling i have never experienced before. “the last five miles were a struggle but you can tell you are coming to the end and the atmosphere just picks you up again. it was a massive buzz.”

he added: “All of a sudden you can see Big Ben and Buckingham palace and you think ‘i’m nearly there!’ there were Union Jacks flying and it makes you proud to be British.”

Shaun said the crowds were eight deep around the course – a record 37,000 people took part in the marathon – and there were some 750,000 spectators.

FUND RAISINGBenitachell gym motive8 and its neighbour enhance health and Beauty staged a fund raising day for Shaun at the end of

march and chipped in with £1,700 of the total.Across the finish line, Shaun received his medal and a series of goody bags before being reunited with his family. together

they went to the Scope area to meet the charity’s other runners and swap stories.“it was just a great day from getting up at 6am and getting home at 5pm before we went to the pub – 25 of us all went

out to celebrate.” And Shaun said even a couple of days later – before returning to Spain – he was wearing his ‘i finished the london marathon’ and people were still coming up to congratulate him and drivers were sounding their horns.

“i am absolutely over the moon about how much we raised – i cannot believe how many people backed us,” he said.Shaun is determined to run the marathon again but may wait a couple of years – although he does already miss the four days a

week training schedule. “literally the day after the marathon, the ballot opens for next year’s race...it’s a day when you don’t feel like applying but i will absolutely do it again!”

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx‘MS Braemar’ in Alicante

THE CRUISE vessel Braemer from the company Fred. Olsen Cruise Line arrived at the Port of Alicante at 11.30 am last 24th of April. The ship arrived with about 800 passengers and 370 crew members. Most passengers were of British nationality. Beniconnect, as a “preferred partner”of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, had the pleasure of inviting along to this event presidents, vice presidents from some officially registered clubs and associations on the Costa Blanca as well as professionals within the tourist industry.

Our visited commenced with a wonderful lunch invitation on board the ship in the Thistle Restaurant. This was followed with by guided tour of the ship by Fred.Olsen hospitality staff. We viewed numerous cabins of various types, public areas, spa, hairdressers as well as enjoying the views on the magnificent deck areas by the swimming pools.

Fred. Olsen cruises are different, hundreds of people repeat these amazing “experiences” time and time again. WHY?

Their service is different. It is a traditional British cruising with English speaking crew and sterling currency on board. They visit over 200 destinations with cruises of all durations, and you can enjoy on board a fantastic cuisine and great entertainment.

Fred.Olsen ships can sail to smaller ports that bigger ships cannot reach, offering you more time ashore. As their ships are smaller, the atmosphere on board is more sociable, and guests are remembered by the name. This is a family run business the same as Beniconnect, therefore there is a difference, customer service is priority and far superior to the larger companies where perhaps that extra special touch is sometimes missing.

If you are thinking of booking a cruise this summer, please don´t hesitate to contact us and if you mention you saw this ad in the RTN we will give you a special discount at the time of booking a cruise for either 2015 or 2016!

You can book your summer holiday from 86€ per person per night, and discover wonderful destinations as Canaries & The Azores, Norwegian Fjords, Artic & Norway or Northern Europe.

Beniconnect Travel Agency has available now an exclusive cruise departing Cadiz aboard Braemar. 20 days discovering Venice and the Adriatic. Don´t miss the opportunity to travel in a Fred. Olsen Cruise departing Spain only available if booking with us! For more info visit our website www.beniconnect.com, email us [email protected] or contact us on the +34 966 811 847.

Hologram Hawking talking in a Universal direction! ´THE THEORY of Everything´ was a wonderfully made film starring Eddie Redmayne who deservedly won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking, and it was a delight to see what was clearly a factual account of the life and times of the great man.

Hawking is now 73 years old, having been told when he was an undergraduate at Cambridge that he would not survive more than 2 years from Motor Neurone disease. There was much to admire in the movie, in particular, that despite having such a frightening illness Stephen Hawking was a man who enjoyed having a bit of fun, and this has very much bore out 50 plus years later.

SH appeared at the Sydney Opera house last week by means of a 3D hologram from Cambridge University, and, as always went about the business of answering questions about his life´s work to a packed auditorium, at one point saying “We must also continue to go into space for the future of humanity, I don’t think we will survive another 1,000 years without escaping beyond our fragile planet,” scary stuff indeed, but from a man who has faced what he has faced, reality is all there is. Then out of nowhere that fun side of his kicked in.

Someone stood up and asked the question “What do you think is the cosmological

effect of Zayn leaving One Direction and consequently breaking the hearts of

millions of teenage girls across the world?” and his superlative reply was “My

advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay close attention to the study of theoretical physics, as this may well prove that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another different universe, and in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction.” What a top geezer eh?

Quote of the week

Robert Downey Jr talking in America about THAT interview at Ch4 “he was like a syphilitic parasite, and I needed to distance myself from the clown!”

At the time of writing, an extremely rare 400 year old elephant bird egg was due to be auctioned with £50,000 the estimated

value. the creature was believed to have been three metres tall and half a tonne in weight, honest!! Can you imagine that much bird flying about, boy would it be worth it if you found its nest, gives a

whole new meaning to an egg sandwich! Is this some kind of yolk?

JUSTIN BIEBER´S many meltdowns are essentially a lad attention seeking that most head doctors would pass on. Talks of heads, JuBi set the world alight last week by teasing his followers with pics of masses of hair on the floor suggesting he might have gone skinhead, before unveiling his new bran HIGH QUIFF! … A fan posted “Justin cut his hair. Thank you God .” hhhmmm

It’s fAIrly commonplace for pubs to be renovated, re-named and re-opened with

a big old party to boot. however, when the Doric in Merseyside was

renovated the re-naming part didn´t gone down well at all with

the locals. Now called the ´Cock and seamen´ the landlord and the brewery are running the danger of being keelhauled, or at the very least strapped to the yardarm!

AlTHOUGH ROMEO Beckham

raising £6,000 for the UN Aids fund

& The 7 Fund UNICEF by running

the junior marathon in london

was highly commendable, the fact

that afterwards he burst into tears

in front of masses of paparazzi

suggests to me David and Victoria

are turning into pushy parents. 12

year old Romeo is already a model

for Burberry, so give the kid an even

break Beckhams!

WITH A background in family and matrimonial mediation, Life Coach Sara Bell helps Readers with their daily worries. If you are having difficulties with relationships, family, work or any other aspect of your life, then help is at hand.

I can‘t stand my Mum’s new boyfriend. My Dad died four years ago, and I helped my Mum through it. She has relied on me ever since. I worry that she is making a mistake with this new Guy, and now she says he is moving in. I am 18 soon and have always wanted to join the armed forces, but wonder whether I should leave.

You are naturally worried about your Mum, and you’ve done a great job in looking after her. It would have been very tough on you both when you lost your Dad, but your Mum is entitled to have friends. I would suggest you concentrate on yourself now, and look to the future. Bide your time at home, until you are able to leave. A couple of years living away and travelling the world will be good for you, and help you gain perspective. Sometimes in life we have to endure other people’s relationships, even if we think they could do better.

I hate Mum’s boyfriend

I aM 23, and my parents brought me over to Spain when I was 14. I never settled in at Spanish school, and struggled with learning the language in particular. The only work I can get is food prep at a local restaurant. It’s not even full time as the job is seasonal, and I get laid off in the winter. I enjoy the job but the pay is poor, and I fear I will never be able to leave home and get my own place. I worry that I have no future. I am very down.

The first thing you should do is enrol at College, and learn Spanish. People who are fluent, have a massive advantage over others in this regard. This will open doors for you. Also, if you enjoy the restaurant industry, why not look to taking a course on catering and hospitality? If you don’t make any strides towards changing the outlook, you will stay in dead end jobs, and never have the opportunity to leave home. Your future is in your hands. Good luck!

What future do I have?

Las Vegas, NevadaFOR THOSE who have yet to visit this colourful city – what are you waiting for? IT´S RANKED 3rd in places to visit in the USA, often combined with a stay in Los Angeles or as part of a tour of the West Coast of the USA. Originally given city status in 1910, the boundaries of this town have grown so much that the original, and famous ‘Welcome to Fabulous Los Angeles’ sign was originally over 4km from the last building, and now is less than 0.5km!

Whilst efforts have been made by various top name hotels to entice the family market, by way of holiday theme parks, these endeavours have invariably lacked interest and closed along the way, leaving Vegas most famous for it’s gambling and hotel area, known as The Strip. Consisting of over 4 miles of glittering towers of hotels, casinos, big name concerts and top entertainment shows, even the most committed of travellers would be hard put to get through this lot in a short time! Not to worry, you can take your time and see it all. The hotels in Vegas are quite simply stunning, with 15 of the 25

largest hotels in the world all located in this area. Top end hotels are the Bellagio and the Venetian, which have resulted in many of the older hotels also investing in refurbishment. A win-win if you are a guest at any of these hotels. There are plenty of medium range hotels to stay at also (if your pocket money doesn´t quite reach the prices of the Bellagio, or if you

prefer to keep your pennies for the one-armed bandits!). Hotels such as the Flamingo offer plenty for your dollar and still keeping you in the central location.

So what to do in Vegas? Well the pretty obvious answer is the Casinos. Its hard to turn around without being in front of yet another way to lose your inheritance. Or not! Some casinos offer free lessons on many of the house games. Most would agree that it´s essential to watch the games in play too, to get a feel for how they operate. And if you do win, big or small, remember to save it and walk away! If not, for sure you will lose it all again and probably more too!

If you want to escape from the flashing lights and beeping noises of the machines for a while, there are plenty of alternative forms of entertainment available. The most obvious is taking in a show – famous singers, magicians, entertainers of all walks of life are to be found here, year round. You could also visit the Grand Canyon, many hotels can book this excursion for you, whether your preferred mode is by bus or by helicopter. Another not to be missed experience is a visit to the Hoover Dam, usually around 3 hours for a guided excursion of this awesome structure, and perhaps with a detour to a chocolate factory or botanic gardens on the return journey.

If it’s not broke....HI AUNTY. Last week ,after 5 years of using it ,windows 7 suddenly flashed up that my copy of windows 7 was an illegal copy, which of course it isn’t. I have the product number, but what I was wondering is, if I input the number and try to register it what would happen if it didn’t accept it, would it close down altogether. At the moment it continues to work as normal and so is it a case of ‘if it’s not broke don’t fix it’. Thanks, Michael

The talented Miss YorkBy Jack TroughtonJAVEA TEENAGER Nicolle York hit the right note with judges in the competition the Costa Blanca’s Got Talent to win 2,500€ and a handsome trophy.

The 16-year-old won the talent competition sponsored by radio station Sunshine FM which started in January and has seen her compete in seven rounds and travel many miles – each

stage of the contest being held at the Emerald Isle, La Florida, Orihuela Costa.

Nicolle performed two songs each week, with one contestant being eliminated from her group at each stage. The contestants surviving the semi-finals were given a fortnight to rehearse their version of ‘Once in My Life’ by Stevie Wonder, as well as a number of their own choice.

And Nicolle chose to also perform

‘Jar of Hearts’, originally by Cristina Perry - singing and playing keyboard. Her two faultless performances beat large bands, several with large numbers of supporters.

A student, Nicolle is currently studying for A Levels, including music, and hopes to continue her music studies at university.

The sun shone brightly on entertainers, stalls, fashion show and a mega raffle. The fashion show was hosted by the charity and all the courageous models were volunteers from the Paul Cunningham charity shops. They looked stunning in their outfits as they

strutted their stuff around the swimming pool.

The total raised form the generous people who attended was 406€.

Reach Out get their guns outREACH OUT received a generous donation from Los Pistoleros last week. The Los Rosales Restaurant Guardamar was once again the annual charity donation venue for ‘The Pistoleros’ Westerners group.. Their generosity was again extended to “Reach Out”, one of their chosen charities. This worthwhile charity for the poor and homeless were very happy to receive a cheque for 700€ thanks to the efforts of Country and West-ern Band, Los Pistoleros. A 700€ cheque was presented to “Reach Out” president Karolina Leonard and their shop man-ageress Lorraine Whitney, who represented the charity on the night. Their words of thanks, on behalf of all the poor and homeless people being helped by Reach Out, were a touch-ing reminder of the poverty suffered by some members of the community. Reach Out would like to thank the venue and Los Pistoleros for their generosity.

Conjunctions – and, but, or etc

THESE WORDS are called “conjunctions”, and for those of you who have just groaned, this is not as abstract as it may sound. “Conjunction” simply means something that joins things together and you can see this is the word itself. “Junction” means “joining” and “con” often pops up in words in English and Spanish to mean “with” or “together”, which is of course exactly what “and” and “but” do.

Let’s look at an example in English. Here are two short sentences: “I am a teacher. I like teaching Spanish”. If I were to speak exactly like that I would sound a bit childish and breathless, so I join it together with a “conjunction” “I am a teacher and I like teaching Spanish”. The meaning of these two sentences flow together and don’t present us with any surprises, but if I wanted to express a contrast I would change the conjunction to “but”. “I am a teacher, but I hate teaching Spanish” – for example. I expect that most people reading this know that “and” in Spanish is “y” and “but” is “pero” giving us: “Soy profesora y me gusta enseñar español” and “Soy profesora pero odio enseñar español”.

Now here is something about “y” that you may not be aware of. When “y” appears before a word that starts with the same sound in Spanish, that is beginning with “i” or “hi”, it changes to “e”. For example: “El hombre es muy guapo, simpático e inteligente” (The man is very

handsome, nice and intelligent. No, I don’t know who he is, I’ve just made him up). A phrase sometimes seen in written Spanish is “a nivel nacional e internacional” (at national and international level). Another example can be seen written on delivery vans and lorries: “Federico Gonzalez e hijos” (… and sons). The reason is for the sake of clear pronunciation, because when the same vowel is found at the end of one word and the beginning of the next they inevitably become joined together in everyday speech, (e.g “Va a andar” tends to sound like “vandar”). Normally we just have to live with it, but in this case someone thought to do something about it!

Exactly the same thing happens with another conjunction – “or” which is “o” in Spanish. “O” changes to “u” before words beginning with the “o” sound in Spanish which includes the “ho” spelling. Honestly, I’m not just making this up! “¿Te gusta el azul claro u oscuro?” (Do you like light or dark blue?) “Es casa u hotel?” (Is it a house or a hotel?)

Going back to “pero”, the great challenge for us is to distinguish it in speech from “perro” meaning “dog”. I sometimes set challenges for my students that complicate their lives more than is strictly necessary, which is what happened when I got a group of intermediate students to debate the differences between dogs and cats as pets. One

poor lady’s struggle to make her point by starting with “pero perros …” “but dogs ….” for some reason has always stuck in my mind!

Sometimes conjunctions are made up of more than one word. This is the case with “either …. or” which in Spanish is “o …. o” and also “ni … ni” meaning “neither … nor”. “O voy manaña o el miércoles” (“I’ll either go tomorrow or on Wednesday”) “Ni me gusta, ni me interesa” (I neither like it, nor does it interest me).

There are other kinds of conjunctions which make more complex combinations, such as “porque” (because), “aunque” (although), “así que” (so). They are called subordinate conjunctions because they link an idea that depends on another in some way. I will finish with examples of these three and then shut up while the going is good and I’ve managed to convince you that it’s all wonderfully simple!“Me gusta leer los artículos de Jane porque aprendo mucho”“Me gusta leer los artículos de Jane aunque a veces los encuentro difíciles de entender”“Me gusta leer los artículos de Jane así que los leo cada semana sin falta”.

¡Hasta la semana que viene!

AFTER THE minor complications of the last few articles, I have decided to return to something much more straightforward to give all our brains a rest. Yes, we are going to talk about the words “and” and “but”, along with one or two similar items.

Bicycle use reduces heart attack riskRiding a bicycle reduces the risk of suffering a heart attack, according to specialists at the Torrevieja and Murcia Quirón Hospitals. The use of a bicycle has several important health benefits, says Doctor Ernesto de Casas, a specialist in traumatology and orthopaedic surgery at the Hospital Quirón Torrevieja and Murcia: “It is one of the most complete activities that helps to prevent back pain, protect the joints and improve the circulatory and immunological system, as well as maintain good mental health.”

According to a survey by the Organización de Consumidores y Usuarios (OCU, Spanish acronym for the

Organisation for Consumers and Users), the number of people using a bicycle more than once a week has grown in the past four years, to 47%. In addition, the number of people riding a bicycle to work has doubled, going from 6.8% to 11.9%, according to the latest Barómetro de la Bicicleta [Bicycle Barometer] issued by the Dirección General de Tráfico [General Transit Department].

Cycling is an excellent form of cardiovascular exercise, with a very low risk of injury. Doctor Ramón Fernández, specialist in rehabilitation medicine at Hospital Quirón Torrevieja, states, “In physical medicine and rehabilitation, it has been proven that cardiovascular exercise on a bicycle lowers the risk of heart attack, since it promotes an improved resistance to insulin, lowers blood pressure, increases the contractile capacity of the thorax and promotes a significant improvement in the balance of lipids in the body, lowering bad (LDL, Lipoprotein A) and raising good cholesterol (HDL).”

When riding a bicycle, we exercise the upper and lower parts of the body, performing a very complete workout, which is particularly indicated for people with weight problems or cardiovascular diseases. Below, we explain some of the benefits of switching to two wheels:

More Pedalling, less Heart attacks

Riding a bicycle lowers the risk of heart attack by 50%: cycling raises your heart rate and lowers your blood pressure, so the heart saves resources. In addition, it lowers bad cholesterol, while increasing the amount of good cholesterol, which protects our blood vessels. Therefore, blood vessel flexibility improves, plaque accumulation becomes less frequent, and the risk of artery calcification is lowered.

a good Posture Prevents Back Pain

Depending on the type of bicycle we use, we must choose the recommended posture. The

bicycle seat is our weight-bearing point so, depending on what height we adjust the seat at, we will not only be more comfortable, but benefit our back as well. In general, we recommend adjusting the seat so our body is leaning forward, so that the back muscles are engaged and the core stabilised. Cycling strengthens the lumbar region and prevents the appearance of herniated discs.

exercised and Protected Joints

Some cardio exercises, such as running, overload the joints, especially the knees. On a bicycle, however, 70-80% of the body’s weight is supported by the seat. This way, the joints exercise, but they are protected from harsh impacts and overloading. When the joints work under low pressure, energy and nutrition can be spread to the cartilage more easily. These long-term benefits prevent arthrosis.

a stronger iMMune systeM

Cycling favours the mobilisation of phagocytes, the cells that devour bacteria in our body. This mobilisation also aids the destruction of bacteria and cancer cells, which makes it a good therapeutic complement for cancer and AIDS patients.

a sMall effort witH a large reward

It’s not necessary to invest too much time to feel the results of cycling on your body. With only 10 minutes of cycling a day, you can feel the results at a muscular level, in your blood flow and in your joints. With 30 minutes, you can feel heart benefits, and 50 minutes stimulate the fatty acid metabolism.

a HealtHier Mind

When cycling, the brain’s oxygenation improves and it produces more endorphins, “the happiness hormones”, which are produced in greater amount during exercise. In addition, it has been proven that people who ride bicycles suffer less from depression and other psychological conditions.

healthBad teeth linked to heart disease and Alzheimer’sWe all know gum disease is unpleasant and can lead to pain and tooth loss. But did you know that gum disease can cause even more serious health problems?

StrokeS, heart disease, chest infections and alzheimer’s have all been linked to gum disease.this is because bacteria from the mouth can get into the blood and affect the whole body

– increasing the risk of clots that can starve the heart of oxygen and lead to heart disease, strokes and heart attacks.

according to recent studies, gum infections may release chemicals that cause brain inflammation, which can contribute to memory loss and alzheimer’s.

even if you look after your teeth, you can develop gum disease. So, it is essential to visit a dentist regularly to ensure your mouth is healthy.

FEAR IS a four letter word. It is the main reason that loved ones in the Spirit World cannot receive the blessing they need to start the communication they want to do. If your family is scared of the supernatural, nervous of initiating a spiritual dialogue or fearful of contacting the dead then those who have passed over do not have a chance to start communication with you. Such communication can be initiated by either side of the two way street that is the communication centre between the living and the dead. Spirit have an absolute right to make contact, but they are always told that they are not to contact the Earth Plane with a view to bring fear on any level. Good coaching means that the messages are therefore sometimes not sent, and if they are then they are sent when the majority of people can receive them; when they are unconscious or sub conscious. During sleep we dream constantly, but we are able to snore away for eight hours and then, just maybe, we have no recollection of our dreams on waking. Some dreams are a breakthrough to us, and just sometimes our loved ones are transmitting to us and their messages are sent in often our deepest level of sleep. These often mammoth attempts to connect are therefore passed over as being mere dreams. They are often very much more then that. Sometimes, and they are very rare, we are given tuition directly from the Spirit World. The essential message here is to help to open our spiritual portals therefore allowing a message to be sent and received. Sadly for all this, very often there is a failure. Our own dream machinery can intercept and annul messages destined especially for us, and although this isn’t ever deliberate it can in process erase specific and poignant communication.

Periodic messages are a feature of the wonderful mechanism that links the two different Worlds in such a way that it provides adequate levels of survival evidence; and the confirmation that our dear departed have the apparatus to make contact with us. Verbal communication, when it is intercepted, is very reassuring as it can convey the specifics that we need to identify and to inspire those who have passed over. I have taken messages on behalf of my clients for years, and relayed them utterly through clairaudience. I have been asked if I filter out these direct messages, but I do not have to. What is said always inevitably revolves around a pain free and existing life in the other dimension of the Spirit World. Nothing negative or abusive is ever transmitted because it is sent to inspire the energies of those who live on dimensional Earth. The passing of such a message is an inspiration as it links the two Worlds and opens the barrier to free and sustainable communication. What has gone wrong if you don’t get your spoken message? Nothing whatsoever, since we are equipped to get cues from other sources that transmit to our olfactory nerve by smell, and visions that dominate our foresights anchoring our dreams through optic variations. Communication is just what it is, and any way it can be perceived and received, it happens. Fear will stop any of these processes. Spirit does not demand that we walk with demons and fight off the undead at anytime. There are aspects that could make anybody fearful, of course, but then those instigating the communication are our loved ones. Their very presence should be a joy to behold, and I hope sincerely that this truly is something you could take on. When fear is factored our loved ones want only to show their survival, against the odds; and their utter love and devotion in needing to start the ball of effective contact rolling in our direction. Everything else is up to us!

Mars enters into Gemini and finds that it is hard to make a decision that seems to be acceptable for all concerned right now. The end result maybe be done and dusted but there is much to be taken into consideration meanwhile, especially since there has been much water under the bridge and not everything has been revealed.

Neptune has a run in with Mercury which comes to a head this week. Sometimes it is better not to know what is going on, especially since you are so proud and inspir-ing to others. Let others dig the dirt, use this new balance to show you solution and clearance, because times are changing and you have spiritual work to do right now.

Love finds a way as someone makes a bid for your af-fection. Don’t let an offer in the here and now pass you by because of past transgressions of others. Your current commitments should not preclude you from accepting a valid invitation. You never know what can happen when you let it, but good will come from this!

Mercury and Neptune allow a deeper focus to unravel a mystery that has been hard to solution. In hindsight you would never have got involved if you new what was coming, but right now you are naturally curious to solve the puzzle. Somebody is being economical with the truth, but why they are lying, you are about to find out!

All that glitters is not gold, and whilst pastures new may be beckoning you on, they are not the escape route you should take. A friend appears to be making things very difficult for themselves, but you are implicated in actions that are not your responsibility and you have to ensure that you wash your hands of any ensuing blame.

With Mars in Gemini there is a real chance that you will find the loophole you have been looking for. Time is of the essence this week, and changed appointments and re timings are all designed to take you closer to what you are currently seeking; well away from that which drags you down to the unacceptable levels others palm off on you.

You have been sorely tempted to spill the beans and just tell the truth, but you are protecting somebody who would greatly suffer as a result. As tensions rise and you weigh up the pro’s and the con’s it is not up to you to re-veal past transgressions, but it is time to walk away from all of this with your head held high.....so move on!

A financial corner opens and it almost immediately under-lines a deficiency in your budget that has to be addressed. Tightening the belt, though it may help, isn’t really enough to bring solvency back on the table. There have been some recent essential purchases which haven’t helped, particu-larly when economy is the way ahead now.

With the Sun in Pluto there comes a time to be both analytical and precise, and for very good reason. You are making a rod for your own back if you really think that others should be allowed to get away with things right now, when it should be all hands on the pump. You have set a precedent now that is highly inspiring to follow.

Calibration of the Moon’s recent patterns and would re-veal and underline some of the many changes that are out there and on the cards. It is vital that you have your say, and that others value your current commitment and all that this entails. There is a fly in the ointment and its ex-traction clearly answers the questions you dare not ask.

Venus is ensconced in Saturn, and the wisdom of the past may come in useful right now whilst there are still deals to be done and the impetus is high. One side of you wants to run for cover whilst the other clearly does see transparency as a way forward. Whatever there is nothing to hide and everything to be gained if you wait and see.

Carry on working with instinct since you have the backing of the Cosmos in all aspects of new ventures right now. Make sure what you ask for is really what you want!

Who wants to be a millionaire?WELL PICK up that bag of clubs and be a caddy!

dropped ball and Keegan Bradley’s caddy, Steve ‘Pepsi’ Hale, decided to offer his opinion. Miguel advised him that it wasn’t required which resulted in nose-to-nose confrontations.

So whilst the vast majority keep a very low profile these incidents will serve to remind the spectator that these guys do more than merely carry the clubs and, of course, pocketing 10% of the winnings can very satisfying which meant that the richest New Zealand sportsman was the aforementioned Steve Williams.

By Tony MylesTHERE HAVE been a number of incidents over the years concerning Caddies and usually these are accompanied by controversy.

The inference is that, more generally, these guys are figures in the background looking after their charges.

SO HOW IMPORTANT ARE THEY?For many spectators the awareness of caddies

probably started with Fanny. After all the sad jokes have subsided - she was

obviously a valuable asset to Nick Faldo. For probably the first time the general public noticed that the person carrying the bag was actually doing more than merely being a human trolley. Help and guidance coupled with advice on club selection were apparent, but more importantly, a

calming voice when the player may have become over anxious or suffering an adrenalin rush.

Then there was the high profile firing of Steve Williams by Tiger Woods who at the time was trying to get just one part of his life back into a semblance of order. There were lots of surprised expressions at the time, as it was felt that the last thing he needed was one more shift in his equilibrium. This was further emphasised when Steve then picked up the bag for Adam Scott who went on to win his next major.

Campbell has just returned from Scotland where he was promoting the Campbell Lamont Leagues and whilst there he hired a caddy for his round at St Andrews. According the Campbell had he not had his advice the scorecard would have contained a number of higher scores.

There was also the incident when a caddy failed

to perform and the result was a disaster for Jean van der Velde. Most will remember him playing the 18th at Carnoustie when even a double bogey would have meant that he would lift the Claret Jug. What happened? His ball landed in the water and instead of smacking him on the head for even considering it, his caddy allowed him the squander shots by trying to play the ball from the hazard.

More recently Miguel Angel Jimenez had cause to have words with his opponent’s caddy. There was a dispute regarding a

Tony M - I see you had a caddy when you played St Andrews.Campbell - Yes he was excellent. Helped me a lot.Tony M - Better than my experience.Campbell - Why is that?Tony M - I was having a nightmare round and he

wasn’t helping.Campbell - So what did you say to him?Tony M - I told him he must be the worst caddy in the world of golf.Campbell - He must have thought that would be too much of a coincidence!

Car Broker Spain’s success storyCAR BROKER Spain opened for business on St. Valentine’s Day, just over two months ago, and in that short period of time has sold 24 cars. It’s a modern day success story that goes to show if you offer professional customer service, coupled with attractive pricing, throw in a touch of pride in what you do and treat every customer with respect, that success will come your way.

The family run, Benijofar based business, is owned by Andy and Mandy who add the personal touch to everything they do and where you will discover a new and relaxed way of buying or selling your car. Andy said; “At Car Broker Spain, we pride ourselves on making buying or selling your car easy. We understand how difficult and worrying the car market can be, along with the fact the process can be quite stressful. Finding someone you can trust to work for you in the buying and selling process isn’t easy.”

But Car Broker Spain make it as easy as possible for you. All their cars are guaranteed and prices include transfer of ownership too. Andy continued; “Using Car Broker Spain will remove the stress and provide a worry free and enjoyable purchase of your next vehicle. We’re here to help you. Every car that we broker, we guarantee that all possible checks have been made to ensure basic things like the vehicle service history is correct and true, and that the car hasn’t been ‘messed’ with in any way. More importantly we ensure that your new car does not carry any bad debts or hasn’t been involved in any serious accidents.”

And having that peace of mind is one of the many reasons that Andy and Mandy have been kept so busy. Past clients often stop by for a chat and almost 200 people attended their opening day celebrations. Car Broker Spain is totally committed to supplying vehicles, which are honest and true as it’s important to buy with confidence. Andy also prides himself on being able to find you whatever car you wish; from classic cars to family runabouts to the most exotic of sports cars. His wide range of contacts can help you find your perfect car, and at the right price too. Andy has been involved in the motor trade since he was nineteen and Car Broker Spain offer a complete range of services to go hand in hand with your new car.

This week they became official agents for Liberty Seguros, one of Spain’s best known Insurance companies. They can import your car for you and deal with all the paperwork required, offer you part-exchange on your present car, source any car you require and even have in stock such varied cars as a Fiat 500 and an Aston Martin DB9. In the last two months they have sold cars to clients in Mazarron to the south, and Valencia City. Distance is not a problem.

They can have your car serviced, put through the ITV, change of registration plates to Spanish; in fact anything that makes your car

ownership, or buying or selling, as simple as, and as stress free, as possible. Car Broker Spain is located on Avda. Federico Garcia Lorca, 62, Benijofar, 03178 Alicante, Spain and open weekdays from 10am until 6pm and Saturdays from 10.00am until 2pm. Such is Andy’s passion for cars that even on Sundays he often attends car shows, you’ll find Andy and Mandy with their DB9 at the classic car meeting in Los Monteinos, at La Torre Hotel.

You can contact them by Phone: 626 006 074, Email: [email protected] or visit their informative Website: www.carbrokerspain.com
