PUPPEDYSTORIES

Even though it was produced in the 1980s, the puppet series Puppedy Stories is still very much alive. It has its own Facebook group and produces over 10,000 hits on Google. The seemingly incompatible characters (which include, among others, Bedouin, Pamela the camel, Artemides the eagle, Fox Vox, the Canine Convicts, King and General Sneaky) live together in the same yard as an odd but harmonious group. The series is made up of two to five minute independent stories. A re-edited version will be available in September 2013.

BALKAN EXPRESS3 x 50 minutesyear of production 1983

World War II, Serbia. A band of small-time crooks aren’t interested in either the occupation or the resistance movement—their lone ambition is to survive in one piece. They flee from the capital to the countryside disguised as a musical troupe called “Balkan Express” and wait for the end of the war while supporting themselves through petty theft. Despite the fact that all of their energy is being spent on avoiding everything related to the war, a combination of circumstances forces them into a situation where they must act like heroes. Black humor interweaves with an exciting plot and nostalgic music seems to struggle with the horrors of war.

FATHER ĆIRA AND FATHER SPIRA3 x 60 minutesyear of production 1982

In the middle of the 19th century, the inhabitants of a village in the Banat region of Pannonia are enjoying a relatively idyllic life. They are wealthy and pious and are easily able to support two clergymen. The clergymen and their families also enjoy an equally idyllic life until a new teacher arrives. The clergymen—and their wives, in particular— don’t just see him as a potential son-in-law, but are willing to engage in an all-out war to the death over him. This comedy about character and mentality isn’t without an element of nostalgia for a time when life was simpler.

PAPERPUSHERS12 x 30 minutesyear of production 2012/2013

The basis for the series Paper pushers are conversations between three characters employed in a state-owned company. Their remarks and commentary about a variety of topics dealing with everyday trifles seem as if they come from a cabaret or stand-up comedy routine. The topics are dictated by everyday events, headlines from the newspapers, various blogs, websites, and conversations. They talk about films, TV series, and radio and TV shows. Even though the stories are local, they are authentic and relevant to any country in transition. The idea of the creators was that during a regular week at work the characters would humorously discuss current events to make viewers laugh while stimulating them to reflect on the issues raised.

KRUŠEDOL57.59 minutesyear of production 2009

The Monastery of Krušedol was founded at the beginning of the 16th century by Đorđe Branković of the last Serbian medieval dynasty, and is still active today. This docudrama tells the story of the last members of the Branković dynasty and their role in the region’s secular and spiritual life. At the same time, it bears witness to the fall, bondage, longing, rapture, liberation and sanctity which still echoes today in the Serbian spirit and at the crossroads of the centuries. It conjures up the strength of its founders who were members of the aristocratic Branković family— Stefan, Đorđe, Jovan and Angelina, who were later canonized as Saint Stefan the Blind, Saint Maxim, Saint Despot Jovan, and Saint Angelina of Serbia.

BAROQUEMUSIC28 minutesyear of production 2008

The Baroque and Baroque music of the long ago era of the 17th and 18th centuries interweave unusual instruments and strange sounds and lead us through the world of musical history, both Serbian and European. THE MOLE

23 minutesyear of production 2011

Incredibly colorful tales and urban legends have been spun about what is hidden in the underground corridors of the Petrovaradin Fortress and, in particular, about things that have never seen the light or been properly investigated. There is even one about a basilisk hiding away somewhere down below. There are many among the residents of Novi Sad who for a variety of reasons are willing to take matters into their own hands and set off on an adventure much like Indiana Jones, taking on the risk of such a campaign but without proper equipment. One of them is Zoltan Sabadi, also known as Kina, a young man who headed underground more than 20 years ago solely for the purpose of finding treasure, which was also the subject of urban legend.
