Rugby is a physical contact sport. It´s playedon a rectangular field 100 meters long and 70meters wide. It´s based on making the mostpoints taking the ball to the ground behind thegoal-line of the opposing team. Doing so iscalled try and gives 5 points. At the same timeyou can perform a conversion, ie, kick the ballto make it go through the goal pos. Do it gives2 points. In this sport you can only pass theball back, never forward, unless you use thefoot.

The game lasts 80 minutes, divided into two parts of40 minutes each. There are different ways, but thebest known is the "rugby fifteen", where obviouslythere are fifteen players per team.

RUGBY CULTURE

Rugby is a sport that requires a lot of strength and speedbecause you need physical contact. Although it could beconsidered violent, is a sport that enforces much the rulesand promotes values such as friendship, respect, sacrificeand discipline.

The decisions of the referee are highly respected andplayers do not try to cheat with performances. At the end ofeach game, players from both teams always eat together.

VI NATIONS

The VI nations is a tournament involving national teams ofScotland, Wales, Ireland, France, England and Italy. The winner of this year was Welsh, andmore titles country is England, winner of 26 titles (6 of them shared). It is probably one of thebest known competitions worldwide.

RUGBY WORLD CUPThe tournament is one of the largestinternational sporting competitions in theworld, along with the FIFA World Cup andthe Summer Olympics. The current worldchampions are the All Blacks, who wonthe tournament held between September9 and October 23, 2011 in New Zealand.The rugby world cup is played every fouryears and involves 20 teams.

New Zealand is the country withmore titles and is known because atthe beginning of every game,performed a dance to intimidatedtheir rivals, called Haka. They alsoare known as the “All Blacks”.

RUGBY IN CANTABRIA

In Spain rugby is making a hole betweenpeople. In Cantabria same thinghappens, more and more teams. Here, theteam best known is the "Independent RugbyClub" of San Roman, near Santander and itplays in the “Euskadi League”.
