RUGBYTOTS LESSON PLAN AT CHEAPSIDE PRESCHOOL: Welcome circle. All participate in counting to a number and saying hello to everybody. Passing coloured balls around the circle. Teaching colours and sharing with everyone. Holding the rugby ball with two hands is predominately for safety but also coordination and discipline. Counting to ten touching the ball on toes and knees. Teaching counting, body parts and stretching before you exercise. Copying the coach. Gets children to recognise different body parts and touch them with the ball. Also gets them to focus on instructions from the coach. Scoring try's A key skill to play future games. Getting them to follow instructions. Warm up games Score try's in hoops or shape mats Colour recognition Shape recognition Spatial awareness as limited space. By changing how they move I.e walk, run, hop, sideways. Gets them to recognise how animals move and different ways they can get to score a try. Whilst holding the rugby ball in two hands. All the time developing their basic core motor skills. Balance games Balance coloured cones on heads and putting in corresponding hoops Colour recognition Balance Special awareness Team races Make obstacle course to test skills. Promoting team Sharing Along with a review of all skills learnt. Kicking over posts Achieving goals Coordination Concentration Parachute Colours Hand to eye coordination Fun Goodbye circle with Well Done stickers Counting Recognition The start and end stays the same. This gives continuity plus they work well to focus the children on the coach. The other games develop as skills and maturity develop.
