Mission Statement

Samahan sa Summer Run marathon aims to encourage people to engage

themselves into living a healthier life and at the same time, to help the Prevent Cancer

Foundation raise funds for them in order for them to come up with projects and

movements to promote the prevention of the different kinds of cancers that affect many

today. It wishes to have people join the marathon not only to have a good time while

running and taking a leap for their health, but also to contribute to a more important

purpose which is to help cancer patients by uplifting their spirits and giving them hope.

Executive Summary

This group's event will be a fundraising fun run, or as some might call it, a

marathon. The fun run will compose of games, interactive activities, warm-up sessions,

health consultations, and a banquet. The marathon will have 3K, 5K, 10K, and 15K run,

which the interested runners may choose from.

Our target market for this event are people who are professional runners and

sprinters, people who are weight-conscious, people who are simply interested in

running marathons for health purposes, and students not only from its host school, De

La Salle University Manila, but from other schools, colleges, and universities around

the metro as well. 70 percent of the proceeds from this event, together with our

sponsors, will be given to the Prevent Cancer Foundation in order for them to fund for

their future projects and movements to fund for researches that will be conducted to

further study the nature of the different type of cancer, and hopefully, discover cures

and medicines for them.

The event will be on May 28, 2011, Saturday, and will run from 5:30 in the

morning and will end at noon for the banquet that will be catered by Twenty One Plates.

The prizes for the games and activities will be sponsored by our sponsors, Nestle',

Globe, R.O.X., Pocari Sweat, ABS-CBN, ABS-CBN Sports, Unilever, Monster RX 93.1,

and the official venue for the Samahan sa Summer Run, Bonifacio High Street*.

Industry Background

The nature of most the marathons or fun runs nowadays is to raise awareness for

environmental concerns. This group decided to make a deviation from the common motivation of

marathons today. As concerned as this group is for the environment, this group decided to make a

turn from raising funds for environmental projects. Instead, this group thought about the cancer

patients who are suffering from a deadly disease. This group thought it best to give attention to

these patients because they are going through tough times and are rapidly losing hope. This group

formulate the idea of conducting a marathon to raise the funds, since this group believes that

marathons are a hype theses days, and at the same time, promote being wealthy in health. What

better way to encourage people to value their health and discourage vices and caring less for their

health than to hold a fun run.

Activities and Services

The event itself will render health advantages to the people who will join it. not only they will

improve their endurance and stamina, improve health conditions, but also have a great time with

family and friends who will be joining them as well. They will be a healthy banquet which will be

catered by Twenty One Plates and they will provide healthy and organic food in very healthy

servings. During the run, they will be employees of Pocari Sweat in several stations throughout the

routes to hand runners water while running. The Bonifacio High Street, Global city management

agreed on discounting the payment for the venue because they believe it is best to at least

contribute even a little amount to the beneficiary, that way, they are helping in the main purpose of

the vent, and that is to fund for projects to uplift Cancer patients and fund for researches for

prevention and cure for different kinds of Cancer.

The prices of each kilometer ranges from 500 pesos for 3K, 600 pesos for 5K, 800 pesos for

10K, and 900 pesos for 15K run. This group expects around 50,000 participants to join the marathon

and with that number, the organizing group will be able to raise around 20-25 million pesos which

will be very helpful for the research and projects that will be organized hereafter. Upon payment,

the participants are given a shirt that is requested to be worn during the event and a big bottle of

Pocari Sweat Ion Water.

Marketing Plan

This organizing group plans to disseminate the news about the event mainly through social

networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and the like, through television commercials,

and endorsements that will be made by ABS-CBN network. The network will also provide the

coverage of the event. The official radio partner of Samahan sa Summer Run is Monster RX 93.1,

where disk jockeys will mention the event details so that radio listeners will have knowledge about

the said event. The group will also advertise in magazines, newspapers, and search engines to

vastly spread the news about the event.

Another way that the group will advertise is to request the participating nutritionists,

doctors, and specialists to plaster or post the official poster of the the event in their clinics so that

their patients will know that there is such existing event.

The group also thought about asking incentives from professors of Physical Education and

other health and science related courses in the university so that students will participate, thus

increasing the number of attendees. This inquiry from the professors will be done in the usual

room-to-room manner and also a formal letter will be sent to the departments concerned.

Operations Plan

The group plans to organize the event early to avoid discrepancies and procrastination.

There shall be leaders assigned for committees for each area of concern; that way, each committee

will be able to focus on what they are assigned primarily to do. There will be the Human Resource

committee which will be in charge of scouting and recruiting volunteers and training them for

events management on the day of the said event. Then, there will be the Marketing committee which

will be in charge of looking for sponsors and soliciting money for the event. Then, the

Documentations team will be in charge of all the contracts, memorandum of agreement, permits,

pictures, and other documents needed for the event to push through. Finance committee will be in

charge of allocating money and budget the money gathered from sponsors and generous donors to

the respective allocation. Publicity committee will be in charge of making the posters, promotional

videos and advertisements in television and radio, and the ads that will be posted in the social

networking sites. and lastly, the Operations committee will be in charge of the registration booths,

the maintenance of order in the run and etc.

Management and Organizing

The group plans on getting volunteers to be the manpower for such big event. They would

have to look for people who are willing to wake up very early in the morning and those people who

can handle different personalities of people. These volunteers must be patients and understanding

enough to handle people who will complain or such during the event.

The volunteers will help the organizing group to manage the whole event, from directing the

runners to their routes, manning the registration booths around the venue. The group will also ask

for the local government of Taguig to provide them with policemen to prevent any crimes to

transpire.

Financial Plan

In order to gather enough money to fund the event, the group thought it best to look for

sponsors who are more than willing to take part in this event. Pocari Sweat will sponsor 300,000

pesos worth Pocari Sweat products and freebies to be given away during the culminating activity of

the event. R.O.X. will provide the shirts that will be given away upon registration and payment

amounting to 100,000 pesos. Globe is the official communication network and will provide for the

freebies that will be given at the event amounting to 300,000 pesos. Univeler offered to sponsors for

freebies and snacks for the event amounting to 200,000 pesos. All the sponsors, major and minor,

will each have respective booths to promote their product and let themselves be known to the

participants and other people passing through the venue. The group plans to ask for solicitation

from public and private hospitals and companies to add to the fund that will be collected for the run.

They also plan on asking the government to contribute in funding the said event.
