This is part 1 of Tuvizo‘s series on running for mothers as told by our guest blogger, Ann Steel.

Ann Steel is a baker, runner and mother of two

Started running to gain balance during teen years, also to avoid ball sports in high school P.E.

She hasn’t stopped running ever since

She’s a proud mom who’s always in the kitchen telling her kids to pick blocks of Lego she just stood on

Ann was also initially worried about such stuff as she’s been a constant runner most of her life

But as a mother, she always thinks of her motherly duties first before even thinking about competing in any kind of race

So she asks, is it entirely possible to be a runner and not run races?

Her answer to that: YES. She ran leisurely for 8 years prior to her first race!

Ann says: “I now love the high after a well-run race but I still don’t have the need to sign up for every race that presents itself”

A thing about races you can’t replicate on your own is the mental and emotional aspect

It’s different with running buddies, people cheering, and that the romance will wear off. You consider this moment worth it all so you let go of hesitation and just run

Some runners say “never again” but will eventually find time to racing again

TIP: Take your time to think back on your accomplishment later, savour the great moments of the race then decide calmly

Soon enough you’ll be at another Sportsman’s Warehouse swarming the registration for another race

What matters most for race finishers aren’t the medals or kilometers you clocked up but how it made you feel, the friendship, and the amazing things you know your body can do; only if you put your mind into it.
