Dear Retreat Guest,

Welcome to Pesach at the Running Springs Retreat Center. We are very excited to have you join us. A fabulous program has been planned, which we hope you will thoroughly enjoy.

We are honored to have with us Rabbi Boruch Shlomo & Rebbetzin Miriam Cunin, Rabbi Yosef & Mrs. Rifky Brod, Rabbi Eli & Dr. Dalia Hecht, Rabbi Chay & Mrs. Dina Amar, and Rabbi Shlomo & Mrs. Tovi Bistritzky, who will be our scholars-in-residence over Pe-sach. We hope you will find our planned programs to be thought-provoking, educational and enjoyable. We are also honored to have Rabbi Dovid & Mrs. Rochel Smoller and Rabbi Mayer & Mrs. Debbie Greene running our children’s programs.

For your convenience, there will be a 24-hour tearoom available in the lodge. Please note that food will be served during meal times only.

There will be a mid-day snack available in the Lodge Dining Room on Monday, March 29 from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm. The Pesach Program ends Wednesday morning, April 7 with check out at 11:00 am.

Please remember that candle lighting is taking place in the Lodge dinning room.Lighting candles in the cabins would be a fire hazard to you and to all the other guests and is strictly prohibited by law.

Who’s Who

Rabbi Boruch Shlomo Cunin is the Director of West Coast Chabad-Lubavitch. He was sent to California with his wife, Rebbetzin Odel Miriam Cunin, by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Men-achem M. Schneerson in 1965 to develop educational, religious, and social outreach programs. With more than 200 community centers and dozens of schools, Chabad runs the largest network of educational and nonsectarian social services under Jewish auspices on the West Coast.

Rabbi Yosef Brod, a Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi, one of our lecturers for Pesach, was born and raised in Crown Heights, New York. Rabbi Brod has offered study classes and seminars for all ages, visited various hospitals, jails and state and federal prisons and served as a Chaplain. He has conducted community Seders in Los Angeles for over 35 years and has worked with Chabad all his life. For the last four years Rabbi Brod has been running the Running Springs Retreat Center in Running Springs, a non-profit organization, which offers Shabbatons and retreats for groups and families.

Rabbi Chay Amar believes The Tools for Success are in your grasp, his mantra “The Best of You”. “I am not here to force people to be religious, but what I am here to do is to give people the tools so they can grow and tap into themselves,’’ Amar says. “People are looking for inspiration. They want an energy that is greater than themselves.’’ Rabbi Amar regularly speaks around the world whether; England, France, Israel or South Florida the key his lectures is always to provide the tools we need to succeed in life, business and relationships. When Rabbi Amar is not inspir-ing the world he is brushing up on the five languages he speaks and spending time with his lovely wife and seven children in their home in Golden Beach, Florida.

Rabbi Eli Hecht is vice–president of the Rabbinical Alliance of America and past–president of the Rabbinical Council of California. He is the regional director of Chabad of South Bay in Lo-mita, CA which houses a synagogue, day school, nursery school and chaplaincy programs.

Rabbi Shlomo Bistritzky is the Chabad Shliach and founder of Chabad of Oak Park, California..

Rabbi Dovid and Rochel Smoller have been faculty members at the Chabad Hebrew Academy in S. Diego for the past 23 years. They have organized many programs during this time, including Shabbatons, trips to New York and Washington DC, and a traveling camp up the California Coast. The Smoller’s have also supervised Junior Congregation programs for many years and other youth programs. Rabbi and Mrs. Smoller have been involved with Jewish camping as directors of Camp Gan Israel in S. Diego since 1987. Their children have served as staff members all over the world, including Ukraine, Hamburg, Germany, Maryland, Chicago, and New York. Rabbi Smoller is a “scholar” on the website Askmoses.com, in his “spare” time.

Who’s Who, continued

Rabbi Mayer and Debbie Greene are Shluchim in Tarzana CA. Since moving to Tarzana in 1988 Rabbi and Mrs. Greene have organized a variety of youth programs including Shabbat Ju-nior Congregations, weekend retreats, teen centers and youth trips to New York. Debbie, who has been teaching for 22 years and specializes in early-childhood, currently teaches Pre-Kindergarten at Gan Israel School in Tarzana. Rabbi Mayer has been involved in Jewish youth programming for 25 years. As the director of Camp Gan Israel of the Valley he runs one of the country’s largest Jewish day camps with enrollment of over 400 children each summer. Rabbi Greene also serves as the associate Rabbi of Chabad of Tarzana as well as the regular Baal Koreh, and Chazzan for the High Holidays.

Dr. David Cotlar has been in solo pediatrics in Houston since 1977. He received his M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine, completed his pediatric residency at its affiliated pediatric hospi-tals, and now holds a teaching position at Baylor. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has been listed in “ America ‘s Best Doctors” and “Patients’ Choice.” He and his wife Bayla are proud of their children (and grandchildren), three of whom are current or pending shluchim.

Patricia Greenberg-Grunfeld, Certified Culinary Professional, is a nutritionist and cooking instructor and who promotes wellness through food and fitness. She has a BS in Nutrition, a de-gree in Culinary Arts, and is an ACE Certified Personal trainer. As the author of two best selling books, Patricia runs the Fitness Gourmet, an education consulting firm that specializes in teaching nutrition and fitness seminars nationwide.

Sue Rieber has a Bachelors’ of Science in Therapeutic Recreation and has studied Reflexol-ogy at Hands of Healing Academy and the American Academy of Reflexology. For Sue Rieber, Reflexology started as a way to help the Special Needs population. During her 10 year career of working with individual clients and special needs students, Sue discovered that reflexology was a powerfully potent technique in relaxing, focusing and alleviating long-term stresses that interfered with their development and growth. Sue has now expanded to the general population, working with pre and postnatal woman including during delivery, and is now assisting people with the impact of life, both physically and emotionally with her Reflexology.

Ms. Donna Katz, the President of Keyboard Town PALS™, has years of experience as a school administrator at Yeshiva Schools of Pittsburgh PA, and did private consulting for non-profit organizations. Ms. Katz has been the driving force for the production of the software package and its distribution to children everywhere. She lives in Pittsburgh and is married to attorney Elliot Katz and is the mother of four children: Jill (Beverly Hills), Jordana (Atlanta), Danielle (Bever-lywood) and Rabbi Yoni Katz (Crown Heights).

Danielle Forer is a teacher in Bais Rebbe of Los Angeles. She has taught Elementary and High School students a variety of Jewish subjects for over 10 years. Known by her friends as the “Jewish Martha Stewart”, Danielle enjoys making parties, cake decorating, and crafts. She is passionate about combining her love for learning and teaching with creative thinking. She has lectured throughout the United States. Danielle lives in Los Angeles with her husband and 6 children.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITES - Take advantage of the amenities here on the mountaintop, including our athletic courts, nature trails, game room, moon bounce, Archery, Ropes Course, and swimming pool. In addition, the city of Running Springs offers sports like hiking, mountain bik-ing, fishing, boating hand gliding and horse back riding. Most of these places are within 15 minutes from our campus.

CHILDRENS ENTERAINMENT - There will be a variety of entertainment for children and adults throughout Pesach, including a clown, moon bounce, and games such as Deal or No Deal and Who Wants to be a Millionaire hosted by Rabbi Greene.

MIKVAH: Men: Open daily from 6:30 – 9:30 am On Erev Shabbat and Yom Tov from 3:00 - 7:00 pm.

Ladies: There is a beautiful Mikvah on the premises by special appointment, please call Mrs. Brod privately at (323) 229-1470.

DON’T MISS THESE SPECIAL ON-SITE ACTIVITIES!

ARCHERY: Take part in this fun activity, while experiencing first hand this ancient aspect of our Jewish Heritage.Michael Crumrine, a certified Archery Instructor, will be available all day Chol Hamo’ed from 9:30am- 5:30pm. Special beginner lessons and target practice will be available for children. Adults may take part in target shooting or lessons if desired. There will also be archery games and competitions available, these are great fun and allow the whole family to participate together. If you have never shot an arrow before, give it a try! Newcomers are encouraged. Let the arrows fly!Note: The Range can accommodate 10 people at a time. Sessions will last 45 mins. Anyone inter-ested should please sign-up and reserve your spot as soon as possible.

INDOOR FACILITIES: Relax in our rustic main lodge, which features a fireside social hall, li-brary, and reading room. Have fun in our popular game room, or explore new ideas in our confer-ence rooms.

ATHLETIC FACILITIES: Enjoy our solar heated Olympic sized swimming pool, basketball court, soccer field, tennis courts, volleyball courts, and squash/handball courts. We have hiking trails, a ropes course and an archery range. Sports equipment is available at the front office.

Snow Play is a specially designated area at the base of the mountain where the whole family can enjoy a day in the snow.
