“Write down the vision;clearly inscribe it on tablets,so the one who reads it may run.” Habakkuk 2:2With a renewed sense of purpose and a zeal and urgency to get the job done, we embark on this vision of securing our beautiful property on El Camino Real. Running with the Vision, our theme for this campaign, captures the essence of what we are doing and how.

As a church family, we all sense that this is God’s time for us and we are so ready to rise up and take the challenge. Every great endeavor requires every member to give of themselves and even, at times, go beyond their potential. God is on our side and with us as willing vessels, He will perform miracles. We expect it!

What an exciting time! What a sense of vision and purpose! What a mo-ment for Life Christian Church to run with the vision and break the finish tape victorious.

Won’t you run with us?

Pastor Stephen and Zane Johnson

With a handful of people, Pastor Stephen Johnson started His Church Christian Fellowship (later Life Christian Church) May 5, 1985. Composed mostly of college age students, the group first met in a recreation room of a retirement age mobile home park. Benefiting from the generosity of the eccentric owner of the park, Pastor Stephen was offered a single wide mobile home to rent and the use of the recreation center in the first few months. Still single himself, Pastor Stephen started the church at the age of 28 while working toward finishing his bachelors degree in Theology at Berean Bible College in San Diego. In those early years, he received no salary and fit work in between commitments to his little church and his full time schedule at Bible College. Sunday worship services were held in an empty bar of a local motel. The worship team would set up their instruments and pulpit on the parquet dance floor.

From there, the church moved to the recreation building of Washington Park located in the heart of Escondido where the children’s Sunday school was held outside on the porch. It was at this point in the first couple of months of 1987 that Pastor Stephen made a bold and risky decision. Some space

was available in a semi-professional, industrial park in Escondido, but

the city had not opened it up for church use. Life Christian Church (then known as His Church), like Da-vid versus Goliath moved in, against

Page 4: Running with the Vision Capital Campaign Catalog

impossible odds and took on the City of Escondido’s building de-partment to petition the city council for a conditional use permit that would allow them to stay. Miraculously, the city agreed and equally as miraculous, the money came in to pay the rent for the huge unfinished warehouse building as the church began to grow. The excitement was contagious and all the young people began bringing their friends, co-workers, and family members. The building went from a cold and dark warehouse to a finished building as the singles and young families zealously took on the construction of the church. For Pastor Stephen, it was an exciting year of accomplishments and a time for life al-tering relationships. On his Bible College graduation night he became connected with Dr. Mark T. Barclay, his Pastor to this day; married Zane Alkhas (June 20, 1987), a single young lady who was attending the church and wouldbecome an active partner with him in the ministry; and founded Word Bible College, an international ministry.

As all this was enfolding, the church began to growexponentially and it became a hub of revival with signs and wonders and healings regularly happening in services, prayer meetings, and outreaches. The church grew into two more suites in the complex that it occupied on South Andreasen as the children’s and youth ministries began to explode. During our twenty-four years on South Andreasen, the sanctuary had four major remodels to ac-comodate our growing needs and expanded to take over 2 suites adjacent to the main building.

Always with the intention of building our own facility, a 7.5 acre lot was purchased in South Escondido, though never built upon. After years of affecting our commu-nity and touching our world with a genuine and demon-strative message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, His Church Christian Fellowship became Life Christian Church (LCC) as we are today.

Page 5: Running with the Vision Capital Campaign Catalog

After 24 years in Escondido, LCC has moved into our dream location with a revitalized sense of purpose. Sit-ting like a jewel on a hill, our 1,000 seat auditorium is getting filled every service with guests. Salvations and notable healings take place every service and the ex-citement is tangible.

Inaugurating our move on Easter weekend in April 2009 (our largest outreach) the sanctuary was full. Every park-ing space was taken and many children and families en-joyed the service and egg hunt. No longer in a remote location, we expect larger crowds attending our an-nual Harvest Festival, Summer Day Camp, Conferences, Back to School, Thanksgiving and Christmas Outreaches.

When we moved into this building we remembered all the prophecies that had been spoken to us regarding our future: ‘You will be a lighthouse to the nations, like a city set on a hill’ and that there would be ‘hills and hills, covered with people’ who would be born again and coming to this house. The location and the ideal build-ing configuration testify to the fulfillment of these words.

Children’s Ministry now has a huge open room able to convert into several rooms as needed. The brightly paint-ed spacious rooms are ideal for the mission of KidSpace - to engage and involve children in the Kingdom of God and the Church through activities, events, relationships and teaching formats that establish them as enthusiastic participants in the growth of the Kingdom of God.

Youth Ministry now has adequate rooms for junior and senior high ministries we can be proud of. The youth en-joy owning their new space with their own decorations, sound system, lights and multi-media effects. Not to men-tion the spacious and safe areas surrounding the building they now have to hang out with friends.

Our Nursery is brightly painted in fun pastoral scenes with trees and dancing sheep. The rooms are full of tot-friendly equipment and the babies have all they need to experi-ence a restful stay during any one of our services.

Our move has affected and improved the quality of ser-vice of every ministry in the church. From the coffee bar all the way to the worship team and ushers, every department has benefited from the move and is excited about going to the next level as a ministry and as a church.

“Running with the Vision” will enable usto reach for the highest and most world shaking parts of

our vision. We are already setting our sights on the future and the potential that this building and land holds for us.

We will build a preschool/daycare for little children and give them an excellent, Christ-centered start to their education. It will be inno-

vative and full of loving and trained teachers and workers. Kingdom Care is already in the works right now.

Phase two of an educational vision is a Christian day school for Kindergarten through High School which provides the best instruction to prepare children for post graduate studies. The emphasis will be on sports and arts to bring to children and youth top educators and coaches for those fields to exercise minds and bodies and represent excellence in the community. With around 15 acres of untouched land, we can construct buildings and play fields to our own specifications.

Already in motion is our food distribution and social care programs. With more room, we will set up large refrigeration units and give out food, clothing, and essential items to the under privileged in the community. We also plan to build women’s homes where women who need shelter and help can come and be cared for in beautiful, clean and healthy homes.

A great part of the vision of LCC in-corporates young people. We en-vision a ministry oriented Christian night club that is open to young adults in the evenings, hosting all the new and cutting edge Chris-tian bands from the community and beyond. Also, there will be a state of the art, hair-raising skate park for young kids and teens that love action. There is no better place to come and hang out than at church where ministry and the Gospel message are readily shared every day. These are all vehicles that open up young people to new relationships at LCC and conse-quently the message that God loves them.

“This entire southern area of California is going to be touched and influenced bythe Life of this church.”

Page 7: Running with the Vision Capital Campaign Catalog

We love feeding people. Our Thanksgiving and Christmas out-reaches have made the other-

wise lonely and sad holidays warm and ful-filling to people in need. We plan to build a huge, fully equipped kitchen with capacity to feed and host hundreds. This ministry will then be able to extend to regular feeding events at LCC to help people year round.

Word Bible College, our very own accredited four-year and post graduate school with the emphasis of raising leaders to help or head ministries, is slated to also have a cutting edge facility of their own with international and national of-fices right on the Oceanside cam-pus. With the room and the facilities, Dr. Ste-phen Johnson’s vision of raising up pastors, missionaries, and global ministries is facilitat-ed.

We also plan on building a state of the art recording studio which will be the flagship for our own TV station and facilities as well as a ra-dio recording studio. Victorious Living (LCC’s very own Television program), which has al-ready seen 20 successful years of ministering to the local community, will be able to go on secular stations and affect many more people.

Life already has a beautiful bookstore

and coffee bar (Heaven on Earth) area where members can come before or af-ter service and hang out, have a latté, or purchase a Bible. We want to expand it, though, to a whole new level by upgrading it and opening it to the public during the weekdays. What a great place to meet up with friends and grab refreshments, check out new and helpful Christian based ma-terials in an upbeat and happy environ-ment.

We are excited to give our children and their children a legacy of excellence and

greatness by what we fulfill as a ministry through this campus. That is what our facil-

ity provides. Already we have third gen-eration attendees here at Life. We want to leave them a lasting testament of our faith and passion for the vision of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations. We want to leave something that speaks of a great God who never was content to let the world slip away but rose to a difficult challenge, laid down His life, and paved the way for the world to experience how good a God He is.

God says, “Whatever building you will build - I will fill up.”

“You will be a Lighthouseto the Nations!”

Page 8: Running with the Vision Capital Campaign Catalog

As a part of “Running with the Vision”every family and friend of this ministry will be asked to make a financial com-mitment for the purpose of securing the down payment needed for the pur-chase of our building. This campaign willcontinue over a three year period.

For each of us, our commitment will be over and above our regular tithes and offerings. No one will be told what he or she “should” give. We simply want each person to consider what God wants to do through them in this campaign.

“Not Equal Gifts, but Equal Commitment” is what we want to be taken to heart. Each of us, doing our part as the Holy Spirit leads, moves us forward - achieving our goal. While gifts may vary in amount from family to family, the equality ofsacrifice and commitment should not.

Our challenge is to know and respond to God’s individual will for our lives in this very exciting time in our history.

CHALLENGE GOAL $1 MILLION This is the first milestone in achievingour goals.

VICTORY GOAL $2 MILLIONThis goal will be reached through prayerful, sacrificial giving by mostof us.

MIRACLE GOAL $3 MILLIONThis goal is possible only throughprayerful, sacrificial giving by allof us.

Pray By now you have probably begun to pray about what God would have you do. If not, ask the Lord’s guidance as you begin to get involved in this cam-paign. This is one of the most important steps you will take in preparation for your response to“Running with the Vision.”

Talk to your FamilyHusbands and wives should discuss this matter and seek God’s guidance together. For those of you with children, you may want to make this a family time of prayer and come to a group decision. If you are single, you may want to discuss this with a close friend.

DecideYour decision to give, and how much you give is between you and the Lord. Make your com-mitment reasonable, yet one of sacrifice that stretches your faith and believes in God’s ability to respond to it. Decide how much you feel God wants you to give at this time or during the next three years.

Use the Commitment CardThe Commitment Card is for your convenience to inform the church of your commitment. It can be filled out at the banquet or a Life Christian Church member will call your home within the next two weeks, should you be unable to at-tend. Please call the church if you know of any-one who wishes to make a commitment and does not receive a commitment card. Should unforeseen circumstances arise in your personal life, you may alter this commitment. However, our prayer and belief is that God will bless you in such a way that you will be able to fulfill the commitment He has led you to make.
