Uni Hall The Uni Hall is home to 240 students primarily from rural/interstate Australia and overseas. Uni Hall provides an environment that fosters independence, tolerance, equality and a sense of community. Each resident has their own secure room fully furnished with a bed, desk, direct dial telephone and data line for Internet access for those with their own computers. The Hall also has communal dining, television and common rooms, as well as a computer laboratory, library, music and art room, and a tennis/basketball court. Deirdre Jordan Village The Deirdre Jordan Village provides students with the convenience of on-campus living in a safe, secure and affordable self-catered unit. Boasting 311 beds, each unit contains a common living/dining area, kitchen, bathroom & toilet facilities, desks, study chairs and a single bed in each bedroom. Individual telephones and data connections and secure storage space for each resident makes living and studying at the Deirdre Jordan Village a pleasure. Other Accommodation Options If you’d prefer to live off campus, Flinders Housing can also assist you. We run a free, up-to-date accommodation service that lists private accommodation available on the rental market. If you’re about to come to Adelaide to commence your studies, you may also want to make use of our Temporary Accommodation Information. ACCOMMODATION

STUDENTS ACCESS

SCHEME (RISAS)

In order to address the educational disadvantages faced by students who attend rural and isolated schools, Flinders University allocates bonus points to Year 12 students who attend a rural and isolated school in South Australia or interstate. If you attend a rural and isolated school (listed on our website) you will automatically receive 8 bonus points which are added to your university aggregate by the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC). If you are unsure whether your school is included in this access scheme please visit our website www.fl inders.edu.au/risas. If your school is not listed and you believe it could be eligible please contact the Admissions/Prospective Students Offi ce on 1300 657 671 (local call cost)

SUBJECTS/ DISTANCE

EDUCATION

If you are studying one or more Open Access/Distance Education subjects at Year 12 level you will receive an additional 2 bonus points automatically.

If you are studying at a RISAS school that is not listed on our website and you are doing year 12 subjects through Open Access/Distance Education you need to apply to have these points added to your university aggregate. You must complete the application form, available from www.fl inders.edu.au/risas and return it to the Admissions/Prospective Student Offi ce by Friday 31st October 2008.

INDIGENOUS

ADMISSIONS SCHEME

Yunggorendi First Nations Centre for Higher Education and Research administers the Indigenous Admissions Scheme, as a pathway into Flinders. Science and Mathematics Bonus points are allocated to students studying selected Science and Mathematics subjects in Year 12 who apply for entry to a Science or Engineering degree at Flinders.

Subject ApplicabilityApplicants who have undertaken, and have achieved a passing score in, the following subjects in stage 2 of their South Australian Certifi cate of Education (SACE), International Baccalaureate or interstate equivalent are eligible for the Science and Maths bonus points:• Biology• Chemistry• Mathematical Studies• Physics• Specialist Mathematics.

Applicants will have two bonus points per eligible subject automatically added to their University Aggregate by SATAC.

The maximum number of bonus points, inclusive of all Flinders access/bonus point schemes, available to applicants is 10.

ExamplesJohn has been studying at a RISAS School and has also studied Chemistry in year 12. Amongst his 6 SATAC preferences John is applying for the Bachelor of Science at Flinders. John will receive a total of 10 bonus points for his Bachelor of Science preference (8 RISAS and 2 Science and Maths). For any non Science or Engineering preference John will only receive the 8 RISAS bonus points.

Jane has been studying at a RISAS School and has also studied an Open Access subject in year 12. Jane will receive a total of 10 (8 RISAS and 2 Open Access) bonus points for all of her preferences.

What is my adjusted TER?Bonus points are added to your university aggregate not your TER. Once you have received your results you will need to ring the Admissions/Prospective Students Offi ce and they will be able to give you your adjusted TER.

HOW DO I APPLY?

To apply for a course for semester 1 (January) 2009 entry you must lodge your application with the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC) by Tuesday 30 September 2008* via; www.satac.edu.au/uniweb. The normal processing fee for school leaver applicants is $15. The last day to change your preferences is Wednesday 7 January 2009. SATAC will make offers on behalf of the university on Thursday 15 January 2009.

*Late applications may be considered but will be subject to a late application fee and may not be granted equal consideration. Please contact the Admissions/Prospective Students Offi ce for further details.

HOW DO I

DEFER MY OFFER?

Applicants offered places in all undergraduate courses except the Bachelor of Creative Arts, Midwifery, Nutrition and Dietetics or Speech Pathology may defer their offer for 1 year. To defer your offer, simply follow the instructions provided in your offer information.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Flinders University offers a wide range of scholarships to commencing undergraduate students. For more information on the range of scholarships available visit the scholarships database available at www.fl inders.edu.au/scholarships.

Students may also apply for Commonwealth Scholarships which are funded by the Australian Government.

Two categories of scholarship are available:• Commonwealth Education Costs

Scholarships (CECS) which has an annual payment in 2008 of $2,162, and

• Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS) which has an annual payment in 2008 of $4,324.

Both of these scholarships are available for a maximum of 4 years subject to recipient’s continuing eligibility and maintaining satisfactory academic progress. CECS and CAS may not be held concurrently. Online applications through SATAC open on 11 August 2008 and applicants are advised to apply no later than 5 December 2008. ALTERNATIVE PATHWAYS

If you have completed, or are about to complete, a TAFE/VET qualifi cation at Certifi cate III level or higher, it can be used as the basis of your application to university. However, not all courses will accept TAFE/VET awards for entry, so you need to check with our Admissions/ Prospective Students staff to identify if your qualifi cation is competitive or suitable for admission into your preferred Flinders course.

Flinders also offers a Foundation course as well as pathways for for people over 21 via the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
